Fateless: Gamescom 2024 Recap
The latest episode of the Fateless Podcast is here, and it’s packed with exciting stories, behind-the-scenes insights, and some unexpected adventures from Gamescom 2024! This time, Brad is joined by Paul, a regular member of the Fateless team, and Nico, a talented 3D character artist who has recently transitioned from intern to full-time team member. Together, they share their experiences at the world’s biggest gaming convention, Gamescom, and give us a closer look at how Godforge was received by the crowd.
Meet the Guests: Nico’s Journey from Intern to Full-Time Artist
Before diving into Gamescom, Nico shares his journey into the gaming industry. Originally joining Fateless as an intern, he was quickly recognized for his talent and dedication, eventually landing a full-time role. His passion for gaming started young, with Nintendo 64 emulators before diving into MMORPGs like Metin 2 and World of Warcraft. Now, he’s bringing that passion to Godforge, working on environments and character models that players will see in-game.
Paul and Brad also joke about the generational gap in gaming experiences, reminiscing about classic Sega and Nintendo games, proving that no matter where you start in gaming, we all have those nostalgic titles that stick with us.
Fateless at Gamescom 2024: First Impressions and Community Reactions

The team made a strong presence at Gamescom, showcasing Godforge in the trade section. One of the biggest highlights was the massive Ramses figurine that drew attendees into the booth. The team noted how many people were curious about the game, with its striking character designs and vibrant world standing out among other titles at the convention.
A major takeaway was the overwhelmingly positive visual reception. Many attendees were blown away by how polished and high-quality Godforge looked, especially on mobile devices, where it’s optimized for the best experience.
However, with high ambition comes scrutiny. Paul mentioned that some industry experts and developers they met at Gamescom were curious about the scale of the project. With Godforge aiming to launch with a vast roster of characters and game modes, some wondered if the team could realistically achieve their ambitious goals. Paul acknowledged these concerns, but he reassured listeners that the team has consistently risen to challenges and is dedicated to delivering on its vision.
Gamescom Shenanigans: Bugs, Pool Hustles, and a Chocolate Overload
Of course, Gamescom wasn’t all work—there were plenty of fun (and bizarre) moments along the way!
Bugs on the Menu?!
One of the most unexpected moments came when Nico decided to try bugs at a restaurant. Yes, actual bugs! While some of the team bravely gave them a shot, others (like Paul) opted to stick with more traditional meals. Let’s just say, bugs won’t be making their way into Godforge anytime soon.
Getting Lost in the Cosplay Zone
At one point, Paul found himself trapped in a sea of cosplayers, struggling to find his way out of the convention center. With massive halls and different exit routes, he somehow wandered into the cosplay section, surrounded by Transformers, Wookies, and Jedi before finally managing to escape.
Pool Shark Alert: Henry Dominates
One of the most unexpected surprises came during a casual game of pool. Henry, a UI designer for Fateless, claimed he was “not that good” at pool. Moments later, he proceeded to completely dominate the game, even winning with a trick shot. Moral of the story? Never trust someone who says they’re “not that good” at something!
Chocolate Factory Adventures
The team also made time to visit a chocolate museum, home to some of the finest Lindt chocolates. The only downside? Buying €50 worth of chocolate on a 31-degree Celsius day. Let’s just say, the heat made getting it home in one piece a bit of a challenge.
Final Thoughts: A Strong Team, Big Ambitions
As Gamescom wrapped up, Brad, Paul, and Nico reflected on the team’s camaraderie and how meeting face-to-face reinforced their shared passion for bringing Godforge to life. With its ambitious scope, stunning visuals, and a dedicated team, Godforge is shaping up to be a game worth keeping an eye on.
