Godforge Beta Changes: Ascension & More

Godforge is edging closer to its next big milestone, and the upcoming beta is shaping up to be a massive leap forward from the alpha. In a recent Fateless podcast, Brad sat down with Vex, Sneaky, and Pwncakes to break down key systems like Ascension, early progression, weapons, and overall player expectations.

If you played the alpha, or even just followed it, you already know the foundations are strong. But the beta? It’s looking like a serious evolution.

Ascension in Alpha Felt Gated and Underwhelming

Ascension was one of the most talked-about systems from the alpha.

For some players, especially those not grinding constantly, Ascension felt difficult to progress. Resources were tied to specific stages splitting players time and focus. Also the tower-style structure meant you could easily hit walls before unlocking efficient farming, so sometimes the reward often didn’t match the effort. Some players felt fully Ascended heroes didn’t always feel significantly stronger, which made the system feel more like a chore than a power spike.

If players don’t feel the impact, they stop caring about the investment.

Progression Walls Highlighted the Need for Change

A big contributor to the Ascension issue was progression bottlenecks, particularly around tougher encounters like the Golden Guardian.

Players found themselves in a loop. You needed Ascension materials to get stronger, but the best way to get those materials was locked behind difficult content. Competitive players who are vets in this genre and pushed hard early could break through, but the majority hit a wall.

This made Ascension feel inconsistent. Sometimes it flowed well, other times it stalled completely. The beta aims to smooth that out.

Beta Ascension Changes Bring Earlier Power and Better Flow

The beta version of Ascension is getting an overhaul, and it already sounds far more player-friendly.

One of the biggest improvements is unlocking hero passives at Ascension 1 for rare heroes and above, rather than Ascension 3. That alone is big because heroes should feel complete much earlier. This allows players to actually experience their full kit while progressing through the campaign.

On top of that, Ascension now delivers consistent value at each stage. You will gain stats along the way, unlock attunement bonuses at mid levels, and eventually gain faster ultimate access through Divinity at higher tiers.

It’s a simple shift, but a powerful one. Instead of waiting for a payoff, you feel stronger every step of the journey.

Keeping Depth Without Overcomplicating Systems

There was an important discussion around complexity, and it’s something Godforge needs to handle carefully.

With systems like weapons, imprints, gear, and future progression layers all in play, it would be easy to overload players. Ascension doesn’t need to reinvent the wheel. It just needs to be clear, rewarding, and meaningful.

Right now, the beta direction feels spot on. It enhances power, unlocks key mechanics, and gives players a sense of progression without adding unnecessary confusion. Sometimes, refining a proven system is the smartest design choice.

Weapons and Imprints Are Coming Much Earlier

One of the most exciting changes for beta is how early players will access weapons and imprints.

These systems are core to Godforge’s identity, and bringing them forward helps players understand what makes the game unique. Instead of waiting until deep into progression, you will be introduced to them early in your journey through the Sanctum.

The key here is balance. Early weapons and imprints are expected to be simple, helping players learn the system without breaking the game. But for experienced players, this opens the door to early experimentation and creative builds right from the start.

A Massive Roster Expansion Changes Everything

If you thought the alpha roster was fun, the beta will completely blow that open.

The hero pool has expanded significantly, tripling what players had access to before. That means more gods, more combinations, and far more room for theorycrafting.

This is where things get really exciting. New heroes could challenge the dominance of alpha favourites, and players are already looking forward to finding ways to push kits to their limits. Expect tier lists, crazy builds, and plenty of “this might be broken” moments.

New Economy Systems and Beta Rewards Add Extra Motivation

Beyond gameplay systems, the beta is also introducing new economic layers.

A revamped market system using gold and other currencies is expected to offer more meaningful choices. Instead of simple purchases, players will need to think about how they spend resources depending on their progression stage.

There is also strong indication that beta participation will be rewarded. While progress will reset, players will earn Tokens of Valor that carry over into the live game, potentially unlocking cosmetics or other bonuses.

That adds a great incentive to dive deep into the beta and really engage with everything it has to offer.

Final Thoughts

Godforge’s beta is shaping up to be a major step forward, not just a continuation of the alpha.

Ascension is becoming more rewarding and accessible. Weapons and imprints are arriving earlier to showcase the game’s depth. The roster is expanding dramatically, and new systems are giving players more ways to engage with progression.

Most importantly, the experience sounds smoother. More intuitive. More fun.
