Balar the Lost Overview

If you ever wanted a Sylvan Watcher who looks a bit like a Demonspawn… Then here you go! Balar the Lost is one of the 5 new champions arriving with the Chaos Awakes event, and he is very much like a single target version of Supreme Kael.

Although Balar’s attacks are all single-target, his debuffs are all AoE, keeping him relevant in multi-target fights. Increase ACC for his whole team before attacking and Decrease RES on all enemies on his A3 is identical to Supreme Kael and (while it hasn’t been particularly useful on that champion) it’s certain to help players progressing against Clan Bosses or Faction Wars Hard to hit the high ACC requirements – and it’s also very strong in Arena, since he will nearly always want to open with this ability, unlike his Supreme alter-ego.

Three Poisons on all enemies (if he crits) is a solid amount of AoE Poisons, then he can instantly activate them all with his A2. We need to test him to see if this activates only 1 turn or if it fully consumes these Poisons: Plarium’s wording across champions is unclear and hasn’t been updated in years. Either way, it’s a strong combo of abilities, letting him get consistent value against enemies who can Remove Debuffs, and speeding up runs considerably. Poison Sensitivity on his A1 is a rare debuff and will be very helpful against bosses in particular. His AoE Leech and self-Shielding are great for survivability and it looks likely that he can easily solo the Scarab boss in Doom Tower with them.

His passive is where his single-target strength comes from, since it ramps up to a consistent 20% ignore defence for every Poison debuff activated by this champion. This will be particularly strong in longer boss fights, such as the Clan Bosses.It’s also worth noting that although Poison is not particularly strong in Arena/Siege, the current Arachnelixir relic will scale insanely well on this champion and push him to do massive damage with the Lethal Dose Blessing (but there’s a decent chance this might be nerfed in the future).

On the whole, Balar is an intriguing champion: Supreme Kael never ended up being very useful for meta teams, and Balar may fall into the same trap… But he does bring a lot of buffs which are highly relevant for Chimera Trials and he synergises well with Bladechoristor Caldor, so he’s definitely a champion to watch in the future.

Understanding Arena Roles

Champions normally form specific roles within an arena team. Our ratings define the roles that the champion fits and rates them on their ability to perform the roles. Below you can see a breakdown of all of our roles.

Cleanser

Champions with the Cleanser role will use their skills to remove debuffs and keep them from being re-applied.

Crowd Control

Champions with the Crowd Control role will use their skills to place soft (i.e. Provoke or Taunt) and hard (i.e Freeze or Stun) debuffs to disable enemy champions.

Damage

Champions with the Damage role will have skills that deal significant damage and are designed to defeat enemy champions.

Damage Absorption

Champions with the Damage Absorption role will have skills or effects that reduce the incoming damage your team takes. This can be through passive damage reduction or by applying skills such as Strengthen or Shields.

Healer

Champions with the Healer role will have skills that restore your champion's Health including Continuous Heals.

Debuffer

Champions with the Debuffer role will have skills that place debuffs that don't fall into Crowd Control or Skill Manipulator roles i.e. Decrease Defence. These champions may also have skills that remove Buffs.

Revive

Champions with the Revive role will have skills that bring your ally champions back from the dead including Revive on Death buffs.

Skill Manipulator

Champions with the Skill Manipulator role will have skills that increase enemy skill cooldowns or reduce your ally skill cooldowns.

Speed Manipulator

Champions with the Speed Manipulator role will have skills that affect the turn meter of your allies or enemies. This includes speed buffs and debuffs aswell as direct turn meter effects.
