For those of you who are brand new, RAID Shadow Legends is a turn-based role-playing game developed by Plarium for mobile and PC. It features a vast array of Champions from 15 different factions – each with unique abilities and roles. These can be collected and upgraded to help you combat the different game modes such as campaign, dungeons, faction wars, clan boss and Player vs Player.
Raid is a Free-to-Play game; however, it does feature in-app purchases which can massively enhance your ability to progress faster and compete at the highest end of the game. The game, however, is completely playable as a fully-fledged Free to Play player, it will just take you longer to achieve certain goals, or a sprinkle of good luck!
Downloading RAID: Shadow Legends
For new players starting out in Raid Shadow Legends, there are a few things that you can do to really empower your ability to progress at the start, one of them is utilizing a Link Code or new player promo codes.
Link codes are download links that will activate on your account when starting, that will grant you rewards very early on, some of which contain valuable epic Champions that can really enhance your early progression – and some of which will provide unlimited value to you for the rest of your journey in Raid Shadow Legends.
As well as link codes, there are Promo Codes that you can claim directly in the game, which also provide you with valuable resources and in some cases, incredibly powerful Champions once again – but note, these Promo Codes are usually exclusive to brand new players and must be claimed very quickly upon starting an account to quality!
Here at HH Gaming, we have a very valuable Link Code to get your account started instantly with 2 powerful Epic Champions who will prove to be incredibly useful as you progress through the game, Fayne and Tayrel. Click the button below to get started with our Link Code.

Getting Started in RAID: Shadow Legends
Once you’ve downloaded the game and completed the Tutorial, you’re left with a decision of Four Rare Champions to pick from to be your Starter Champion, the options are all Magic Affinity, they are:
Each of these Champions has different abilities and finds themselves useful for different areas of the game (mostly) but choosing the wrong one can significantly slow down your early progression, although they are all useable, some of them do stand out above the rest.
Galek
Galek is by far the weakest link, and as much as many will jump at the opportunity to play with the poster-boy for RAID, a strong orc with dual-wielded axes, he simply just isn’t as good as the other options and doesn’t really have a strong area compared to the other options outside of early Faction Wars. When building Galek, you will only need to have an 85% Critical Rate to guarantee that his big-hitting A2 ability always lands a critical hit, due to a built-in 15% chance to land a crit.
Athel
Athel is a self-buffing, multi-hitting Champion who provides a Weaken debuff, this makes enemies take increased damage from the rest of your team, her ability to buff herself can be relatively valuable in wave-clearing and the arena as it means you do not rely on another Champion providing you with the Increase Attack buff that she grants herself. Her multi-hitting single-target skill on her basic attack can be relatively valuable for the Fire Knight, a Dungeon that you will become familiar with later on that drops Artifacts (gear). Athel also gives herself an additional 15% chance to critically hit with her A2 skill, meaning she requires 85% Critical Rate to be an effective nuker.
Elhain
Elhain, just like Athel can provide you with some very strong AOE Damage, although she does not self-buff, she does have two AOE (All Enemies) attacks instead of the one, allowing her to take out multiple waves whilst her cooldowns refresh themselves. Elhain is more often than not considered the second best option to pick due to her multiple-AOE abilities making her very valuable for wave content and campaign progress. Elhains A2 Skill like the others has a 15% built-in chance of landing a critical hit, which does not affect her A3 skill. However, if she kills a target with her A2, she buffs herself with a 30% Critical Rate.
Kael
Last up we’ve got Kael, who is widely regarded as the best starter Champion available, this Rare Sorcerer has the ability to place Poison debuffs, which the other starters do not have, and to put it simply, Poison debuffs are one of the best ways of dealing damage to bosses as they scale on Enemy Max HP, so when fighting targets that have a large health pool, they will do more and more damage – this is incredibly valuable against the Clan Boss, and dungeons like Dragon’s Lair. On top of this, Kael has a very hard-hitting AOE ability that recharges his Turn Meter by 25% for each enemy he kills, allowing you to get multiple turns and take out your enemies! Kael like the other starting Champions only requires 85% Critical Rate to guarantee his AOE hit will land a Critical hit!
What are Affinities in RAID: Shadow Legends?
The Affinity System in RAID is crucial for understanding how battles work. It is similar to a rock-paper-scissors mechanic, where each Champion and enemy belongs to one of four Affinity Groups.
The Four Types:
- Magic (Blue) (Weak to Force, Strong to Spirit)
- Spirit (Green) (Weak to Magic, Strong to Force)
- Force (Red) (Weak to Spirit, Strong to Magic)
- Void (Purple) (Neutral)
Each of the different affinities has one strength and one weakness, which impacts your ability in battle, when attacking enemies who you are strong against you will deal increased damage and you will have an additional chance to land critical hits. The opposite will happen when fighting enemies you are weak to, you will deal reduced damage, and your abilities will have a chance to land ‘Weak hits’ which will prevent you from landing any debuffs also!
Void Affinity is the outlier, it has no weakness, and no strengths – it is neutral to all, so you will never face the difficulties of dealing with Weak hits.
Below we have linked a more in-depth explanation of how the affinity system works, to help you get a better understanding of the mechanic.
Upgrading your Champions
Upgrading your Champions is one of the most important forms of progression in RAID, and a key to you succeeding on higher levels of content, this can come in a few different forms in the early stages of the game.
- Increasing your Champions level
- Increasing your Champions rank
- Ascending your Champions
Increasing your Champions Level
So, let’s break them down, firstly you are going to want to level up your Champions, you can do this through using them in content, namely campaign being the best source of XP to increase your levels, however, your Champion rank directly affects your ability to increase their levels.
Rank 1: Max Level 10
Rank 2: Max Level 20
Rank 3: Max Level 30
Rank 4: Max Level 40
Rank 5: Max Level 50
Rank 6: Max Level 60 (This is the Max Level in the game).
Increasing your Champions Rank
So, once you’ve hit a level cap, it’s time to think about upgrading them to the next rank, to do this, we need to ‘feed’ them with multiple copies of the same rank that they are, this will upgrade them to the next rank and knock them back down to level 1 for you to repeat the process.
To do this process, you can use what we refer to as Food Champions, usually commons and uncommon Champions that you sacrifice as fodder to upgrade other Champions, these will need levelling and upgrading themselves to be used for higher ranks, alternatively, you can acquire items in the game called Chickens, which serve as a replacement for a Fodder Champion, however, these are harder to come by than Champions that you can upgrade yourself.
Rank 1-2: 1x Rank 1 Champion sacrificed
Rank 2-3: 2x Rank 2 Champions Sacrificed
Rank 3-4: 3x Rank 3 Champions Sacrificed
Rank 4-5: 4x Rank 4 Champions Sacrificed
Rank 5-6: 5x Rank 5 Champions Sacrificed
Ascending your Champions
Now that we’ve covered upgrading your rank and levels, it’s time to look at those lovely purple stars you might see on other people’s Champions, instead of the basic gold stars you will have on your Champions currently, and those are called Ascension stars; these will provide a general boost to your stats, as well as unlocking bonus slots for accessories and improved skill effects.
To Ascend your Champions, you need to head over to the Potion Keep for their respective affinity and acquire Potions to upgrade them, head on over to our Ascension Guide for a full breakdown of how many of these Potions you will need, as well as guides for each of the Potion Keep Dungeons!
Champion Rarities
In RAID: Shadow Legends, there are various Champion Rarities that you can acquire:
- Common: These are identified with a Grey Border and will begin at Rank 1
- Uncommon: Identified with a Green Border, and start at Rank 2
- Rare: Identified with a Blue Border; these start at Rank 3
- Epic: Identified with a Purple Border; Epics will start at Rank 4
- Legendary: Identified with a Golden Border, All Legendaries start at Rank 5
- Mythical: Identified with a special Red Border; Mythical Champions start at Rank 6, meaning they ONLY need Ascending and Levelling, no upgrading ranks!
The higher the Rarity, the higher the power in many cases, whilst there are some Champions who do not live up to that, with the occasional overpowered Rare, or Epic, and subsequently underpowered Legendaries or Mythicals breaking this rule.
Each Rarity requires their own Rarity of Skill Tomes to upgrade their skills, for example, Legendary Skill Tomes cannot be used to upgrade a Mythical Champions skills, however downgrading is allowed (Using a Legendary Skill Tome on an Epic for example), but HIGHLY advised against – do NOT do this!
Each Rarity also has different costs for Ascending them, with higher rarities requiring more resources per level, this information can be found in the Ascension Guide linked above.
Mythical Champions are unique because they have 2 forms, a base form and an alternate form. This effectively makes them 2 Champions in one, with unique skill kits depending on which form they are in, often covering multiple different roles for example a Support in one form, yet a lethal damage dealer in their other form!
Buffs, Debuffs and Instant Effects
In Raid: Shadow Legends, Champions and Bosses that you encounter can apply various buffs, debuffs and instant effects that can have a massive impact on the fight, there are 3 main effects:
- Buffs: These are effects that can be placed on your allies to improve their stats and abilities.
- Debuffs: These are effects that you can place on your enemies to reduce their abilities or cause them to take increased damage.
- Instants: These are effects that can be instantly applied to enemies or allies, for example, Heals or Buff Removal.
In our dedicated pages, you can find a detailed listing of all Buffs, Debuffs and Instants that exist in the game, so you can recognise the icons displayed on your own team, or enemies you are facing to know what’s happening – Don’t worry, there are many of them, but you will get used to them!
Login Rewards Preview
In RAID: Shadow Legends there is a daily-login system, that will reward you each day you log into the game, these are displayed as a monthly calendar, with a Champion being awarded to you every 30th day, outside of Champions, typical rewards include:
- Energy
- Silver
- Artifacts and Accessories
- Gems (premium currency)
- Shards
The Champions that you can acquire are Epic or Legendary Rarity, and some of them can be incredibly impactful on your account, such as Scyl of the Drakes, a Legendary Support who provides healing, revives and control in the form of an AOE Stun debuff.
To find a full breakdown of the Champions that can be obtained from this system, check out the page linked below.
Arbiter Missions
Following the Arbiter Missions is one of the top priorities for any new player, as not only will they provide you with a template for how you should be progressing, but they also provide you with much-needed resources and rewards, ultimately ending in the Legendary Champion, Arbiter, who will drastically improve your ability to compete in the Arena, as well as helping you with valuable support for many other areas of the game.
These missions consist of things such as clearing certain Dungeon Stages, Upgrading Champions to certain milestones, and progressing through Arena whilst upgrading your Great Hall.
Once you have completed the Arbiter Missions you will unlock the Ramantu Drakesblood and Marius the Gallant missions; however, these are much more end-game focussed and will require much more from your account to complete.
We’ve collected all of the mission information for Arbiter, Ramantu, and Marius. Their dedicated breakdowns are below to help you plan ahead.
Currency Overview
There are so many different currencies to worry about in RAID: Shadow Legends that it can truly be quite overwhelming, so for a new player it’s advisable to focus on a select few for the time being:
- Energy
- Silver
- Gems
- Shards
These are the core resources in RAID, especially early on and managing them is key to progressing your account at a suitable pace.
Energy
Energy is a resource that passively regenerates over time, you can have a maximum of 130 at max level, but lower levels will have a lower cap. You can also refill your energy with gems – this costs 40 gems for a full energy refill. Energy refills can also be obtained from various areas, such as daily log-in rewards, daily packs available for free in the shop, Doom Tower, Sintranos, and various in-game shops such as the Clan Shop. Energy can also be obtained by directly purchasing it in the shop for real-life money.
Energy is the key for all content, you will consume energy when doing runs of dungeons and campaigns – whether you win or lose, so be careful with it, don’t just throw yourself into content you cannot beat repeatedly. For the most part, early on you are going to want to use this energy to progress through the campaign whilst levelling up your Champions on your account.
Silver
Silver is one of the hardest resources to manage in RAID, and it is acquired by completing most content, but in very low quantities, the real silver farm comes from the sale of Artifact and Accessories – particularly the latter. There are several prolific farming spots for silver, one being 12-3 Campaign for lower progressed players due to the sale value of Shields being higher than other artifacts. Once you are more progressed, Stage 20 onwards of Spider becomes an incredibly valuable Silver Farm due to the high sale-value of Accessories. Silver can also be purchased for real money however this is not recommended because the value of Silver is very poorly weighted in price.
Silver, the key to upgrading all of your artifacts and accessories to increase your Champions value; early on silver is particularly hard to come by and even harder to keep with the amount of gear you will need to upgrade. Our advice for managing your silver is to aim to hold off on upgrading excessively outside of Artifact Enhancement Events, these are events that will provide you rewards for upgrading your items.
Gems
Obtaining gems is considerably harder than obtaining the above resources on a frequent basis, especially en-masse, you get Gems for completing your daily quests, and occasionally in Events, Clan Boss also rewards Gems. Certain stages of Doom Tower will give a small amount of gems too. A great way to earn a passive income of Gems however, is the Gem Mine on the home screen of the game, which after 100 days of playing will repay any cost you’ve put into upgrading it (It costs gems to activate and upgrade). Gems can also be purchased for real money, with the Daily Gem Pack at $10 being one of the highest-value purchases possible in RAID.
Gems are considered the Premium Currency of RAID: Shadow Legends, and can be used for many different things, such as Energy Refills, Arena Refills, Champion Masteries and even buying Shards, although this is absolutely not advisable – all of your gems should be held for Energy or upgrading the Gem Mine; the only caveat here, is it is recommended to use your very first 800 Gems to upgrade your Masteries on your Starter Champion (or your first Rank-6 Champion) as the value you will get from this will hugely boost your progression in all areas.
Shard Types
Shards, well, the cornerstone of the game. Shards are where you will summon new Champions, there are several types of shards:
- Mystery: Earned from Campaign and Market – These contain Common, Uncommon and very occasionally Rare Champions.
- Ancient: These are obtained from Dungeons, Missions, Quests and Clan Boss, and contain Rare, Epic or Legendary Champions.
- Void: Obtained from Missions and Clan Boss, these contain Rare, Epic and Legendary VOID Affinity Champions only.
- Primal: Primal Shards give you access to Mythical Champions, with a very low chance, they are most commonly earned from Events; they also contain Rare, Epic and Legendary Champions.
- Sacred: These are only obtained from Missions and Clan Boss, and contain Epic or Legendary Champions ONLY – However they are much harder to come by than the other types.
You should always aim to save your shards for Summon Events that increase the rates of the shards, for example 2x Events which will double the chances of you landing a higher rarity Champion!
These events are very frequent, however do not apply to Mystery Shards, these should be used to provide your account with Food to level other Champions, or as filler points for events such as Champion Chase Tournaments or Summon Rush Events.
When it comes to efficiency in completing Summoning Events, Sacred Shards hold the highest value in Summon Rush Events at 500 Points, whilst Ancient Shards hold the highest value in Champion Chase Tournaments due to the quantity of Champions you will receive.
Who to invest in
When starting the game off, you will not have access to a huge array of Epic, Legendary or Mythical Champions; for a very long time unless you are willing to spend a large amount of money.
As such, Rare Champions can become vital for forming the backbone of our progression teams, which is fine as thankfully there are many valuable options for you to keep an eye out for.
- Coldheart: Coldheart is incredibly powerful when facing Bosses as her A3 Skill; Heartseeker will deal massive damage based on the target’s MAX HP, whilst also fully depleting their Turn Meter.
- Renegade: Renegade is what is known as a reset Champion, she has a skill that reduces the cooldown of the rest of your teams skills, making it easy to cycle through these skills more often.
- Apothecary: Apothecary is a very powerful support who is going to excel at boosting your teams Turn Meters, whilst increasing their speed and providing strong single-target healing; he can be a complete godsend when it comes to early progression.
- Warmaiden: A farmable Rare from the Campaign, Warmaiden provides you with an AOE Decrease DEF debuff which will enable your main damage dealers to deal much more damage.
- Reliquary Tender: Another notable mention is Reliquary, who is a good healer and reviver, which will often allow you to progress ahead of your expected level by building her incredibly tanky, she will repeatedly pick up your fallen allies.
There are so many good options when it comes to Rare Champions that will help you to progress through the game. For more information be sure to check out our Tierlist when you acquire new Champions and our individual Champion Pages. These pages will provide you with a detailed overview of the Champion you’ve acquired, their uses as well as how to set up their masteries and blessings!
Outside of Rares, there are simply far too many for us to name some special options, so whenever you are lucky enough to pull a new Epic, Legendary or even Mythical Champion; head over to our Tier List and see how we rank them to help determine whether they will be an upgrade for your account!
RAID: Shadow Legends Content
Now we’ve covered the basics, it’s time to branch off into some of the different things you will encounter on your journey in RAID: Shadow Legends.
There are so many different bosses that you will face, each with their own mechanics and strategies that you will need to use to defeat them, thankfully, our team has very in-depth guides that will help you get through these.
Many of these bosses will not be an immediate concern for you however, as some of them are level-gated, such as Doom Tower which unlocks at level 40, and Hydra Clan Boss which unlocks at level 45.
The Cursed City of Sintranos is unlocked at level 52, which might feel a while away for new players but it doesn’t take a huge amount of time to reach this level. Sintranos is a great daily source of resources even on Normal difficulty, you should aim to clear as much of it as you can but don’t worry if this seems impossible – it is content for later in your progression as you grow your roster.
Check the relevant sections below to find guides on how to beat these challenging bosses that you will encounter on your journey through RAID: Shadow Legends.
Events and Tournaments
In RAID: Shadow Legends, Events and Tournaments are regular in-game activities that players can participate in to earn rewards. They are designed to encourage players to engage with different aspects of the game, from summoning champions to farming gear and more. On top of standard Events and Tournaments, there are what we consider Special Events, that are much less frequent. Here’s a breakdown of each:
Events
Events in RAID are time-limited activities that focus on specific in-game actions. They typically run for several days and offer rewards based on the player’s performance. There are many different types of events:
- Champion Training Events: Players earn points by levelling up, ranking up, and ascending champions.
- Summon Rush Events: These events reward players for summoning Shards. They often coincide with special Summon Boosts, where specific champions have increased chances of being summoned. Points are acquired based on the quality of shards you summon.
- Artifact Enhancement Events: Players earn points by upgrading artifacts and accessories. This is a good time to spend Silver and enhance your gear.
- Dungeon Divers Events: Points are earned by collecting artifacts and accessories from any dungeon.
- Fusion Warm-Up Events: Fusion Warm-up Events are very low point requirement events several days before Fusions start, this allows you to get some free resources, and the point acquisition of these events rotates between the above event types.
Tournaments
Tournaments are competitive events where players compete against each other on a leaderboard. The goal is to score as many points as possible in the specific area of focus, with top players earning the best rewards. There are also many different types of tournaments:
- Champion Training Tournament: Similar to the Champion Training Event but competitive. Players gain points for levelling up, ranking up, and ascending champions, competing to be among the top performers.
- Standard Dungeon Tournaments: These are dungeon-specific tournaments where players compete to farm the most gear from a particular dungeon. Points are earned by farming that dungeon, and the top players receive better rewards.
- Turn Attack Tournaments: Similar to the Dungeon Tournaments mentioned above, however, instead of points being based on the rewards you get, points are calculated based on how many turns you take in your runs, faster the better.
- Champion Chase Tournament: Similar to the Summon Rush Event but competitive. Players are ranked on how many points they accumulate from summoning champions, with top performers earning the best rewards.
- Classic Arena Takedown: These Tournaments revolve around winning fights in Classic Arena, the higher Tier of Arena you are in, the more points you will get.
- Tag Arena Tournament: Just like Classic Arena Takedown, these are the same but for Tag Team Arena.
Special Events
The Special Events in RAID: Shadow Legends are less frequent than any of the traditional Events and Tournaments listed above, but contain significantly superior rewards, from the highest quality of Shards, Soulstones, Souls for your Champions and sometimes even Champions themselves!
The point requirements for these Events as well as how to earn points can rotate between multiple different things, such as opening Shards, upgrading Artifacts, upgrading Champions, and earning Artifacts and Accessories.
Titan Events
Titan Events have a similar formula to how Fusions work, you will need to complete various activities over a long period, and each event and tournament you complete will give you points towards completing the Titan Event, these are usually based on a 2-week window and can be very intense for resources.
You will need to complete a mixture of all of the above Tournament and Event Types, and usually can only skip a couple of Events or Tournaments if you want to retain maximum rewards.
It is very common for Titan Events to be done after Fusion Events, containing rank 5 souls for the recently fused Champion.
Just like Fusions, we run daily updated guides throughout the process of Titan Events.
Deck of Fates
Deck of Fates Events are very luck-based, or resource-intensive if you are unlucky – the idea behind these events is that there are 40 Cards face down, and earning points will allow you to flip the cards. There are various reward tiers available, obviously the better tier, the better rewards which is what we’re all hoping for when we flip over our cards, but whether you get the best rewards quickly or need to flip the whole deck is where luck comes into these events.
Hero’s Path
Hero’s Paths are much more common than Deck of Fates Events and often contain multiple Legendary Skill Tomes, Mythical Skill Tomes and various other top-tier rewards. Typically, there are 2-3 different ways of earning points for Hero’s Path Events however the point acquisition is very heavily weighted towards one of those types being effective. For example, a Deck of Fates could consist of Shard Pulling and Artifact Farming – In this situation, Artifact Farming would not give you a very good return of points compared to summoning your Shards.
There are usually several path options to choose from in these events, meaning you can choose an optimal route to get the rewards you are looking for, or go crazy and clear the whole thing for maximum rewards – but warning, that would be VERY resource intensive.
Fusion and Fragment Events
Fusions are a monthly occurrence in RAID: Shadow Legends that give you an opportunity to earn Legendary Champions on your account if you complete all of the required events and tournaments.
The idea behind fusion events is combining a collection of specific Champions, in order to create or “fuse” a more powerful Champion, however, there are multiple ways that these events can present themselves.
- Traditional Fusions – These consist of 16 Rare Champions, 4 Epic Champions, and the Legendary Fusion. Rare and Epic Champions can be obtained via events.
- Fragment Champions – These do not include other Champions, you must complete events to collect 100 Fragments to fuse the Legendary Champion.
- Hybrid Fusion – These are a mix of the above two methods, usually consisting of Fragments to collect the Epic Champions, before fusing them into the Legendary Fusion Champion.
These are a great opportunity to pick up Legendary Champions who will empower your account and allow you to progress further through the game, but achieving them is quite a feat for new players as they require a large amount of resources to do so.
If you are going for a fusion you will need to ensure that you have plenty of the following resources:
- Shards (These are required for the Champion Chase, and Summon Rush Events)
- Silver (This is required for Artifact Enhancement Events)
- Energy/Gems (These are required for Dungeon Divers Events, Dungeon Tournaments, and Training Events/Tournaments)
- Food Champions (During Training Events and Tournaments you will need to use lots of food to upgrade your other Champions for points)
- An arena team (Arena Takedown Tournaments will require you to farm the arena with your daily battles during their duration)
- Potions (These will be required for Traditional Fusions to ascend the required Champions.)
Your Journey is just beginning…
There are many new features to learn in RAID: Shadow Legends and learning is the fun part, this guide is just a brief introduction to all of the fundamental features in the game to help you get started and acquainted with the basics, we hope it will prove to be a useful resource for new players joining RAID as well as maybe even help some older players.
