Ultimate Frightful Frontier Event Guide

RAID: Shadow Legends has launched its first-ever Frontier Event, and Frightful Frontier is far more complex than a normal Event or Tournament.

Running from 10:30 UTC on Monday, October 5 until 10:30 UTC on Friday, October 23, the event sends players across a branching map of Outposts. Each Outpost contains four Quests, its own rewards, and links to further sections of the map.

The headline rewards are Perfect Souls for The Scarecrow. Free players can earn his 1-Star, 3-Star, and 5-Star Perfect Souls. The paid Explorer track contains his 2-Star, 4-Star, and 6-Star Perfect Souls.

There is much more hidden behind those rewards. Some later Quests demand rare resources, high-level dungeon clears, Champion acquisition, Relic upgrades, and large numbers of Arena wins. The game does not show every upcoming Quest from the start.

This guide explains how Frightful Frontier works, what you need to save, and the main problems to avoid.

You can read our original Frontier Event announcement here.

Frightful Frontier Event Overview

Frontier Banner

The Frightful Frontier map contains five Zones:

  • Uncommon Zone
  • Rare Zone
  • Epic Zone
  • Legendary Zone
  • Mythical Zone

Each Zone contains several Outposts. You start in the Uncommon Zone and work across the map by completing Quests.

Every Outpost contains four Quests. Each completed Quest awards 1 Point for that Outpost. These Points belong to that Outpost alone. You cannot move them between Outposts or spend them elsewhere.

Completing all four Quests clears the Outpost and opens connected routes across the map.

The event requires 88 Frontier Points to unlock every available reward.

The later Zones have Frontier Point requirements too:

ZONE FRONTIER POINTS
Uncommon Available instantly
Rare 15
Epic 25
Legendary 40
Mythical 60

That structure means you cannot rush straight towards one attractive Mythical reward. You need enough progress across earlier Outposts first.

How Outposts Work

Outpost Quests

Frontier Events support four types of Outpost.

  • Standard Outposts require you to clear every Quest in an adjacent Outpost. You must meet the Zone’s Frontier Point requirement too.
  • Time-Limited Outposts stay locked until their set opening time. Players then need to meet their normal adjacent Outpost and Point requirements.
  • Hidden Outposts remain invisible until you complete an adjacent Outpost.
  • The Final Outpost opens after every other Outpost on the map has been completed.

There is one useful detail for this first Frightful Frontier. There are no Time-Limited or Hidden Outposts. Only Standard Outposts and the Final Outpost appear during this event.

Future Frontier Events can use the other two types.

Basic Rewards And Explorer Rewards

Basic Rewards

Frightful Frontier has two reward tracks.

Basic Rewards are free. Every player can earn these through normal progression.

Major Basic Rewards include:

  • 1-Star Perfect Soul for The Scarecrow
  • 3-Star Perfect Soul for The Scarecrow
  • 5-Star Perfect Soul for The Scarecrow
  • 1 Mythical Skill Tome
  • 1 Legendary Gemstone
  • 1 Mythical Gemstone
  • Radiant Sunlilies of several rarities
  • Epic Glyphs
  • Gems
  • Silver
  • Energy and other account resources

The Explorer Rewards require the paid Explorer Pass.

Key Explorer Rewards include:

  • 2-Star Perfect Soul for The Scarecrow
  • 4-Star Perfect Soul for The Scarecrow
  • 6-Star Perfect Soul for The Scarecrow
  • Oz-themed Avatar Frame
  • Radiant Sunlilies
  • Extra resources spread across the map

The Explorer Pass costs $40 USD/£40 GBP with regional pricing potentially differing.

Buying the Pass does not award every Explorer reward immediately. It opens the paid reward track, and you still need to complete the relevant Outposts to claim those rewards.

That distinction matters a lot.

Explorer Rewards

Should You Buy The Explorer Pass?

Explorer Path Cost

Our advice is simple: do not buy the Explorer Pass at the start of the event.

There is no progression bonus attached to owning it early. You still need to clear the same Quests and reach the same Outposts.

Instead, progress through Frightful Frontier first. See how far your account gets. You can then judge the Explorer rewards you have actually unlocked against the price of the Pass.

Several later Quests can stop an account completely. The requirements include high-level Relics, Gemstones, Champion acquisition, Awakenings, Glyph rolls, Hard Dungeon stages, and large amounts of Live Arena.

Buying the Pass first leaves you paying for rewards that your account might never reach.

There is no reason to make that decision early.

The Biggest Frightful Frontier Problem: Upcoming Quests Are Hidden

Hidden Quests

One of the most important parts of this event is not explained clearly through the map.

You cannot inspect the Quests inside an Outpost until you reach it.

That creates some nasty resource problems.

Imagine claiming a Legendary Gemstone as a reward. A later Outpost then asks you to obtain a Legendary or Mythical Gemstone. Your earlier claim does not count. You now need another one.

The same issue applies to Souls, Champion upgrades, Relics, Forge crafting materials, Glyphs, and other limited resources.

Some Quests can overlap too. For example, two unlocked Outposts can both require Classic Arena victories or Dungeon clears. One battle can then contribute towards both active Quests.

Planning your available Outposts before spending resources can save a huge amount of time.

Resources You Should Save

Frightful Frontier changes how you should treat several account resources during the event.

Do not spend valuable resources just because they are available.

Keep a reserve of:

  • SPD, ACC, RES, HP%, DEF%, and ATK% Glyphs
  • Epic, Legendary, and Mythical Souls that can be applied later
  • Relics that can still be levelled or ranked
  • Basalt and other Relic resources
  • Forge materials
  • Legendary and Mythical Skill Tomes
  • Champions waiting for Ascension
  • Gemstones that can remain unclaimed
  • Champion summons or guaranteed acquisitions that can be delayed

Do not claim a rare resource from one Outpost automatically. Check whether another active or upcoming Quest asks you to obtain that same resource.

This becomes very important with Gemstones. A Legendary Gemstone available from one Outpost can satisfy a later Gemstone Quest, but only when claimed after that Quest becomes active.

Be Very Careful With Glyph Quests

Glyph Quests have one extra condition that can waste valuable Glyphs.

A Quest asking you to upgrade an ACC substat by +10 or higher requires the stat to start below +10.

Applying another Glyph to an item that already has +10 ACC does not count, even when the final value rises much higher.

Our testing found this the hard way. Six-Star Accuracy Glyphs were used on an item already sitting at +10, and the Quest counter did not progress.

The same principle matters for the +5 stat Quests.

Check the existing substat value before using the Glyph.

This event’s announced Quest pool includes requirements for:

  • SPD +5 or higher
  • ACC +10 or higher
  • RES +10 or higher
  • HP% +5 or higher
  • DEF% +5 or higher
  • ATK% +5 or higher

Saving strong Glyphs across every stat gives you far more room later.

The Quest Difficulty Rises Sharply

3x Dungeon Events

Early Uncommon Outposts contain familiar RAID tasks.

Examples include clearing Stage 12 Dungeons, winning Campaign battles, upgrading Artifacts, ranking Champions, getting a Rare Champion, and fighting the Demon Lord.

Later Zones increase those requirements.

You start seeing Stage 19 and Stage 25 Dungeon clears, Phantom Shogun and Sand Devil runs, Artifact Ascension, Forge crafting, Champion Awakening, higher-rarity Champions, and tougher Arena requirements.

At the highest level, the potential Quest pool contains requirements such as:

  • Clear Stage 10 Hard Dungeons
  • Win 50 Classic Arena Battles
  • Win 30 Live Arena Battles
  • Craft 30 Rank 6 Artifacts
  • Craft 30 Legendary or Mythical Artifacts
  • Craft 30 Mythical Artifacts
  • Get a Mythical Champion
  • Upgrade a Mythical Champion’s Skill
  • Get a Legendary or Mythical Relic
  • Rank up high-rarity Relics
  • Get a Legendary or Mythical Gemstone
  • Awaken Legendary or Mythical Champions

These requirements make Frightful Frontier heavily account-dependent.

Live Arena Is A Major Roadblock

live_arena

One of the biggest progression checks comes from Live Arena.

The 5-Star Perfect Soul for The Scarecrow sits behind an Outpost requiring 30 Live Arena wins.

Another route includes 20 Live Arena wins earlier on.

Players travelling through that section can face 50 total Live Arena wins across those requirements.

Wins are the key word here. Losses do nothing towards the Quest.

This creates a much larger time requirement for players around a 50% win rate. Live Arena has set opening windows too, so leaving these Quests until the final days creates another risk.

Start any Live Arena Quest as soon as you unlock it.

Arena And Dungeon Quests Can Overlap

Not every difficult requirement needs to be tackled separately.

Multiple active Outposts can track the same activity at once.

For example, two active Outposts containing Classic Arena Quests can both gain progress from the same win. The same applies to matching Dungeon requirements.

Check every available Outpost before starting a long farming session.

Ten or twenty Dungeon runs become far more attractive when the same runs progress two Quests.

This is one of the few ways to cut the total workload without spending more resources.

Champion And Awakening Quests Need Planning

Some Outposts require you to obtain Champions of certain rarities.

Later examples include:

  • Get an Epic, Legendary, or Mythical Champion
  • Get a Legendary or Mythical Champion
  • Get a Mythical Champion

Do not pull Shards purely to clear one Quest without checking the rest of your event schedule.

Frightful Frontier runs alongside other RAID events. Champion acquisition can line up with a Summon Rush, Champion Chase, Fusion, or another summoning event.

Awakening requirements need the same care.

Some Frightful Frontier Quests require Epic, Legendary, or Mythical Champion Awakenings. Applying useful Souls before reaching those Outposts gives you no retroactive progress.

Keep usable Souls available until you know they are safe to apply.

Relic Quests Can Stop Progress

The later sections introduce several Relic requirements.

The announced Quest pool includes:

  • Get a Rare, Epic, Legendary, or Mythical Relic
  • Level a Rank 1 or higher Relic to maximum
  • Rank up a Rank 2 or higher Relic
  • Get an Epic, Legendary, or Mythical Relic
  • Level a Rank 3 or higher Relic to maximum
  • Rank up a Rank 3 or higher Relic
  • Get a Legendary or Mythical Relic
  • Level a Rank 4 or higher Relic to maximum
  • Rank up a Rank 4 or higher Relic

A later Outpost can require ranking a Rank 4 Relic to Rank 5. That becomes a hard stop for accounts without the Relic and materials ready.

Avoid upgrading every useful Relic immediately during Frightful Frontier.

The Scarecrow Perfect Souls

Scarecrow Banner

The main reward chain follows The Scarecrow from 1-Star through 6-Star Awakening.

Perfect Soul Reward Track
1-Star Scarecrow Basic
2-Star Scarecrow Explorer
3-Star Scarecrow Basic
4-Star Scarecrow Explorer
5-Star Scarecrow Basic
6-Star Scarecrow Explorer

This makes the free track valuable for anyone who earned The Scarecrow through the accompanying Ingenious Titan Event.

A 5-Star Perfect Soul is the major free target. It gives players a strong Awakening without needing to find his Souls through the Altar of Souls.

The problem is reaching it. The 30 Live Arena win requirement asks for far more active play than most normal event milestones.

Our Thoughts On Frightful Frontier

There are some strong rewards here. The free Scarecrow Souls, Mythical Skill Tome, Gemstones, Radiant Sunlilies, and other materials give players clear targets.

The map structure has promise too. Choosing routes and opening connected Outposts gives the event more interaction than a standard milestone bar.

The problems come from information and resource management.

Players cannot see upcoming Outpost Quests through the normal in-game interface. That makes route planning harder and creates situations where claiming or spending a resource early can block progress later.

Many requirements ask players to hold resources rather than use them. Souls, Glyphs, Gemstones, Forge materials, Relics, Champion upgrades, and Skill Tomes can all become future Quest requirements.

The Explorer Pass makes that problem more serious. The Pass opens access to rewards rather than granting them. Players can spend money and still fail to reach many of those rewards.

Our main advice for this first Frontier Event is to play patiently.

Complete the cheap Quests. Keep rare resources in reserve. Stack overlapping objectives wherever possible. Do not claim valuable rewards until you have checked whether another Quest needs them.

Most of all, wait before buying the Explorer Pass. Reach the later Zones first, then judge the price against the rewards your account has already made accessible.

Frightful Frontier runs until 10:30 UTC on October 23, so there is no prize for spending everything during the opening days.
