Dark Athel Overview

Dark Athel is an AoE focused Epic originally designed around killing Spiderlings to trigger additional self effects, but her restrictive conditions and outdated Decrease SPD utility leave her largely outclassed, making her primarily a filler option for Undead Hordes Faction Wars.

Once a determined Sacred Order warrior, Athel’s fall in battle saw her captured, tortured, and transformed into Dark Athel. She is a Magic Affinity Epic Champion from the Undead Hordes faction, available to all players through the Day 90 login reward.

Dark Athel was originally designed with Spider’s Den progression in mind, with a kit that rewards her for killing large numbers of enemies. Defeating 4 or more enemies with the A3 grants Increase SPD, killing 6 or more heals her, while taking down 10 or more grants an Extra Turn. The problem is that these conditions are realistically only achievable against the Spiderlings found in the earliest stages, greatly limiting the value of this mechanic as you progress.

With Spider now extending through Stage 25 and into Hard Mode, strategies have evolved heavily towards options such as HP Burn and other specialised damage teams. As a result, Dark Athel’s original purpose has largely been left behind. She does bring an AoE chance to place Decrease SPD, but its 4 turn cooldown leaves her outclassed by many Champions capable of providing the debuff.

For now, Dark Athel is best suited as a potential filler option for Undead Hordes Faction Wars if your roster is limited. With her current kit, investing Epic Skill Tomes is difficult to justify, and she would require significant improvements to become a more meaningful option in modern Raid content.

Understanding Arena Roles

Champions normally form specific roles within an arena team. Our ratings define the roles that the champion fits and rates them on their ability to perform the roles. Below you can see a breakdown of all of our roles.

Cleanser

Champions with the Cleanser role will use their skills to remove debuffs and keep them from being re-applied.

Crowd Control

Champions with the Crowd Control role will use their skills to place soft (i.e. Provoke or Taunt) and hard (i.e Freeze or Stun) debuffs to disable enemy champions.

Damage

Champions with the Damage role will have skills that deal significant damage and are designed to defeat enemy champions.

Damage Absorption

Champions with the Damage Absorption role will have skills or effects that reduce the incoming damage your team takes. This can be through passive damage reduction or by applying skills such as Strengthen or Shields.

Healer

Champions with the Healer role will have skills that restore your champion's Health including Continuous Heals.

Debuffer

Champions with the Debuffer role will have skills that place debuffs that don't fall into Crowd Control or Skill Manipulator roles i.e. Decrease Defence. These champions may also have skills that remove Buffs.

Revive

Champions with the Revive role will have skills that bring your ally champions back from the dead including Revive on Death buffs.

Skill Manipulator

Champions with the Skill Manipulator role will have skills that increase enemy skill cooldowns or reduce your ally skill cooldowns.

Speed Manipulator

Champions with the Speed Manipulator role will have skills that affect the turn meter of your allies or enemies. This includes speed buffs and debuffs aswell as direct turn meter effects.
