Understanding Buff Removal Mechanics in Raid

What Is Buff Stripping?
Buff stripping, or Remove Buffs, removes active buffs from enemies.
Some champions can only remove a single buff; some remove a small number of buffs; and some can remove all buffs.
Buff stripping is often one of the strongest forms of utility in the game and many difficult encounters become significantly easier when enemy buffs are removed.
What Is Buff Stealing?
Buff stealing transfers enemy buffs to your own team. Usually these buffs only go to the specific champion who stole them, though some champions can spread these stolen buffs to their entire team.
This not only removes enemy advantages but also strengthens your own champions, particularly if you steal top-tier buffs such as Block Damage, Block Debuffs, or Stoneskin.
What Is Decrease Buff Duration?
Some champions reduce the remaining duration of enemy buffs.
This functions very similarly to direct buff removal since buffs with very long durations (i.e. 3 turns or longer) will almost never turn up in common scenarios.
This also has the advantage of not triggering the Polymorph blessing which is usually a problem for standard buff removal.
Why Buff Removal Champions Are Valuable

Countering Powerful Enemy Buffs
There are several incredibly powerful defensive buffs which can prevent you from killing the enemy:
These buffs can dramatically increase encounter difficulty. While Block Buffs is the pre-emptive counter, Buff Removal is the reactive counter, making fights significantly easier and allowing you to secure higher damage or kills on enemies.
Essential for Arena Progression
Many Arena defenses rely on protective buffs to keep their team alive. Players often struggle against teams without access to reliable buff removal, since securing kills or controlling the enemy can be almost impossible once they get their buffs active.
Buff stripping enables offensive teams to break through defensive compositions and is absolutely essential for most teams in the current Arena meta.
Valuable Against Clan Bosses
All of the Clan Bosses (Demon Lord, Hydra, Chimera) frequently gain buffs and many regular bosses too. Preventing bosses from using buffs will dramatically improve your run consistency and may even be required to complete the boss in the first place.
Buff stripping and Block Buffs often work together to prevent PvE enemies from using buffs. While Block Buffs is generally better, some bosses can remove the debuff before placing buffs, which is where Remove Buffs shines.

Geomancer

Geomancer is most well-known for his amazing A3 and passive, but his A2 Buff Removal is no slouch either. Although it’s only single-target, this A2 can remove ALL buffs from an enemy, or steal them for Geomancer if he has Burn on the enemy. Very useful for your boss fights.
Andryssia

Andryssia is a good budget arena option thanks to reducing buff duration rather than simply removing buffs, protecting her from the Polymorph blessing. She’s useful for keeping your damage dealer alive as well and brings some decent control
Madame Serris

Madame Serris is the OG buff removal champion, removing all buffs from all enemies and then placing Decrease ATK and Decrease DEF. This is a fantastic move, though the prevalence of Stoneskin and Mercurial gear in arena has limited her to only early-mid-game players these days.
Mighty Ukko

Mighty Ukko brings the fantastic combo of removing buffs and then following up with Block Buffs. He’s a bit limited by only removing 2 buffs per hit of his A2, but he makes up for it with a full team revive and a passive which can even steal buffs from the enemy!
King Gallcobar

Since his buff in mid-2026, King Gallcobar has become an incredible Buff Removal option, removing all buffs, placing Block Buffs, and even placing up to 5 Poisons depending on how many buffs he removed. He has now truly earned his place as the leader of the Sylvan Watchers!
Harvest Jack

Harvest Jack is another champion who has massively benefited from a 2026 buff, placing him as a fantastic combination of Buff Removal and True Fear control. He’s good against teams with Total Guard too, thanks to his Extra Turn A3 and his AoE Attacks.
Hilvi the Rime-called

Hilvi is well known as one of th best champions in the game, and she brings an incredible combo with her A2 where she removes all buffs and then places Freeze and HP Burn, bringing huge amounts of control to the fight. When paired up with Tormin she’s even more lethal, making him spam AoE attacks and setting enemies up for even more debuffs from him.
Lord Entertainer Fabian

Fabian is infamous for being the best PvP fusion of all time. His Increase Skill Cooldowns is his best effect, but his 3-turn buff duration decrease is amazing as well, fully clearing any non-protected buffs from enemy teams in PvP fights. This sets them up for True Fear control from his A2 and can potentially win an entire fight.
Nell Blackteeth

Nell is a monster against buff-heavy teams, punishing them with unblockable Poisons through her passive and gaining free turn meter to cut it. When she takes a turn, her A2 steals ALL buffs and activates all Poisons, an unprepared team can be totally wiped out by this ability. Stealing defensive buffs is key for Nell, since she needs to stay alive for her Poisons to do good damage (her Blessing and Relic won’t count when she’s dead, and she can’t have Increase ATK while she’s dead).
Starsage Galathir

Galathir is most well-known for his incredible Base Form, but his Alternate Form is an amazing Buff Removal champion paired with incredible crowd control. Removing buffs and following it up with Block Active Skills can totally prevent enemy teams from doing anything and even prevents mythical champions from metamorphing, making this a game-winning ability if he manages to land it!
How to Build Buff Removal Champions

Accuracy Requirements
ACC is essential for buff removal skills, since it must pass the ACC vs RES test that all debuffs and offensive effects must pass.
You should aim to have 25 ACC more than the enemy’s RES stat to land your effects as consistently as possible. Use our Raid Stages Tool to check the requirements for any fight in the game. 200+ ACC is a good baseline for new players to aim for.
Speed Requirements
Turn order is very important for champions who Remove Buffs.
You want to build enough SPD on these champions to go before your debuffers or damage dealers, but you don’t want so much SPD that you go before the enemy has placed any buffs, you can’t remove buffs if the enemy hasn’t placed any yet.
Recommended Artifact Sets
Some commonly used sets for these champions are:
- Perception
- Speed
- Relentless
- Reflex
- Stoneskin (for Arena specialists)
The absolute best set for Buff Removers for PvP is usually Supersonic, since it gives your champion Turn Meter when enemies receive buffs. This is exactly what you want for these champions, to ensure they quickly take a turn and remove buffs before the enemy can benefit from them for too long.
Best Areas to Use Buff Removal
Arena
Arena is the primary use case for buff stripping and buff stealing.
Top level defensive teams heavily rely on buffs such as Stoneskin, Block Damage, Block Debuffs and Unkillable.
If you let enemies maintain these buffs it becomes almost impossible to win the fight. Much of the arena meta revolves around maintaining powerful buffs and preventing your enemy from doing the same.
Clan Bosses
All the Clan Bosses can boost themselves with nasty buffs, particularly the Hydra and Chimera.
You will want to supplement your Block Buffs champions with some Buff Removal if you are struggling with buffs against these, or other bosses.
Doom Tower, Faction Wars, Grim Forest, Etc.
As you progress through higher difficulties of the game you will start to fight much harder wave-based content. The champions in these waves eventually have very high SPD stats, RES stats, or passive effects that can make it very difficult to prevent them from gaining buffs.
In these situations Remove Buffs becomes essential to prevent these waves from overwhelming you. This is almost essential for many fights in Hard Cursed City, Grim Forest, Faction Wars, etc.
