RAID: Shadow Legends Proving Grounds Guide – How to Beat Stages 4, 5 and 6

Day two of the Champion Proving Grounds brings us into Stages 4, 5 and 6, and these fights start showing more of what this dungeon is really about.

The overall structure remains the same: there are nine boss combinations, and those combinations repeat later with higher stats. So the mechanics you learn here will matter again when you reach the harder versions in Stages 13 and beyond.

For these early stages, strong accounts can still brute-force a lot of the content. Even so, there are some important mechanics worth understanding now, especially around Scarab King, Griffin, Iron Twins, crowd control, and Heal Reduction.

Here’s what to focus on.

Stage 4: Scarab King Is the Main Problem

Champion Proving Grounds Stage 4

Stage 4 pairs Borgoth, the Scarab King with The Void Guardian, but Scarab is clearly the more important mechanic to solve.

Bring a way to destroy Max HP

Scarab fights can become painfully slow if you don’t have a way to reduce his maximum health.

Good options include:

For most players, Stage 4 is likely the most annoying of these three encounters because Scarab demands specific tools rather than simply raw damage.

Bring a way to destroy Max HP

To counter the Void Guardian, simply use Remove Debuffs or Block Debuffs to counter the Poisons.

Stage 5: Griffin and Iron Twins Need Proper Timing

Champion Proving Grounds Stage 5

Stage 5 is one of the more interesting Proving Grounds encounters so far because both bosses bring meaningful mechanics.

The Celestial Griffin becomes progressively more dangerous as the fight continues. He gains Speed, Crit Rate, and Crit Damage, eventually reaching the point where his attacks can ignore multiple defensive effects and he takes a crazy amount of turns.

You don’t want this fight dragging on forever.

At the same time, Griffin can:

You should time buffs for after his Buff Removal, and time your debuffs for after his Debuff Transfer. This requires manual play, but makes the fight much easier!

Iron Twins brings a different (yet similar) problem: his Iron Brand stacks become dangerous over time, while his HP thresholds trigger counterattacks and Remove all his debuffs. One of the strongest counters remains Decrease Speed, because slowing him down limits how frequently he can cycle through his mechanics. High RES champions can resist his Iron Brand debuffs, keeping champions like Revivers safe.

Stage 5 priorities

Try to bring:

  • Decrease Speed
  • High Resistance
  • Well-timed buffs
  • Well-timed debuffs
  • Decrease DEF
  • Enough damage to kill Griffin before he ramps too far

You’ll want high damage output for this stage so that you can kill the Griffin before he gets too powerful. It’s not too bad to survive the Iron Twins once he’s alone.

Stage 6: Block the Crowd Control, Then Stop the Healing

Champion Proving Grounds Stage 6

Stage 6 is actually fairly simple once you identify the two core problems.

The Disruptor boss throws out:

You want some combination of:

A cleanser champion in Protection gear is particularly useful because it makes your Block Debuffs harder to strip away.

The Spirit Guardian boss is more straightforward but can become incredibly annoying if you don’t focus on countering her.

She restores 50% of her Max HP at the start of each turn, which means Heal Reduction is mandatory unless your damage is absurdly high.

Vallaryn is particularly useful here because his A1 can place Heal Reduction, making him a very accessible answer for players who picked him up through the free login event.

Final Thoughts

Stages 4, 5 and 6 are a good step up from the opening day without becoming overwhelming.

Stage 4 is mostly about solving Scarab King with Shields and Destroy Max HP.

Stage 5 requires the most careful timing of buffs/debuffs around the Griffin’s abilities.

Stage 6 boils down to preventing control debuffs and bringing reliable Heal Reduction.

For now, stronger accounts can still brute-force a lot of these encounters while stacking 9x champions. That likely won’t remain true when the same fights return in the later, harder stages.

If you’re preparing ahead, start building champions around the mechanics now rather than waiting until Stage 19+ forces you to do it.
