What Is the Eternal Dragon?

Doom Tower

The Eternal Dragon, Iragoth, is a boss encountered throughout Rotation 2 of the Doom Tower, alongside appearances in the Cursed City. The encounter revolves heavily around skill cooldown manipulation, with Iragoth capable of putting your Champions’ skills on cooldown and punishing your team while those abilities remain unavailable. This can quickly leave you without access to important healing, protection, or damage skills when you need them most.

Iragoth also fights alongside an Eternal Priest and Eternal Guards, which can either benefit your team or give the boss a major advantage depending on how they’re managed. Every 5 turns, his Consume Soul passive prioritizes sacrificing an Eternal Priest, which resets Iragoth’s skill cooldowns and grants him an Extra Turn. If no Priest is available, he’ll instead consume an Eternal Guard and heal himself by 15% MAX HP.

Not every strategy requires you to kill these minions, but when controlling them is part of your approach, the Eternal Priest is generally the priority. Killing a Priest decreases the cooldowns of all your Champions’ skills, giving you access to important abilities while also preventing Iragoth from consuming that Priest to reset his own skills and gain an Extra Turn.

Controlling Iragoth’s cooldowns can be an effective way to prevent his strongest abilities from cycling, while Block Debuffs, cleansing, or high Resistance can provide additional protection against the likes of the A1 Block Active Skills. Building around these mechanics, while deciding how you want to manage the Eternal Priests and Guards, forms the foundation of most strategies for taking down the Eternal Dragon.

Understanding the Eternal Dragon’s Skills

Spike Storm

Iragoth attacks all enemies and places Block Active Skills for 1 turn. This can temporarily shut down your team’s most important abilities, making Block Debuffs, cleansing, or enough Resistance to avoid the debuff valuable for keeping your rotations running.

Spirit Rush

Spirit Rush attacks your entire team and deals 20% additional damage for every turn remaining across your Champions’ skill cooldowns. If a Champion has no skills on cooldown, Iragoth places Fear on them instead, meaning this attack can punish you regardless of whether your skills are available or locked out. (Control his cooldowns to help delay this)

Soul Burst

This is Iragoth’s main cooldown manipulation skill, attacking all enemies before putting their skills on cooldown. Iragoth then fills his own Turn Meter by 5% for every turn remaining across those cooldowns, potentially allowing him to cycle into his next turn much faster. Increasing Iragoth’s own skill cooldowns can be particularly valuable for delaying this attack.

Conjure Souls (P)

Every 5 turns, Iragoth attempts to summon one Eternal Priest followed by two Eternal Guards, with a maximum of three minions active at once. If there isn’t enough room to summon at least two minions, Iragoth instead gains an unremovable and unblockable Eternal Rage buff for 2 turns.

Eternal Rage increases Iragoth’s SPD and makes his attacks ignore Unkillable, Block Damage, and Shield buffs, while also ignoring 50% of the target’s DEF. This makes preventing the summon particularly dangerous, as Eternal Rage can dramatically increase the threat of Iragoth’s following attacks.

Consume Soul (P)

Every 5 turns, Iragoth sacrifices one of his minions, prioritizing an Eternal Priest. Consuming a Priest resets Iragoth’s skill cooldowns and grants him an Extra Turn, allowing him to cycle back into his dangerous active skills.

If no Eternal Priest is available, he’ll sacrifice an Eternal Guard instead and heal himself by 15% MAX HP. Killing the Priest before it can be consumed can therefore be extremely valuable, especially since defeating one also resets your own Champions’ skill cooldowns.

Additional Passives

Enemy MAX HP attacks are capped at 10% of Iragoth’s MAX HP per hit, limiting how much damage these skills can deal at once. He also is immune to all forms of control outside of skill cooldown manipulation, reduces incoming Smite damage by 70%, making Brimstone less effective for wearing him down than against some other bosses (but still helpful)

Building Out Your Team

If you’re able to use an Increase Skill Cooldown Champion such as Elegaius, Yumeko, or Warlord, keeping Iragoth locked into his default skill can make the encounter much more manageable. This prevents his dangerous active skills from being used as often, or potentially at all if you can maintain the lockout and defeat him before he gets an opportunity to break through.

Taking out the Eternal Priest should still remain a priority, even while Iragoth’s skills are locked out. If the boss manages to cycle into Consume Soul, sacrificing the Priest will reset all of his skills and grant an Extra Turn, potentially breaking your control over the encounter. You can follow up by taking down the Eternal Guards, although focusing damage onto Iragoth can sometimes be more valuable if you’re able to finish the fight quickly.

If you don’t have access to reliable Increase Skill Cooldown effects, a high Resistance strategy is another strong approach. Combining high RES with Increase RES and Decrease ACC can help your Champions resist Iragoth’s dangerous effects and maintain access to their skills throughout the fight.

From here, combine your chosen strategy with careful Priest and Guard management, alongside well timed Block Debuffs or cleansing to counter effects such as Block Active Skills. Decrease ATK can help reduce the incoming damage, while HP Burn, raw damage, healing, and defensive effects can provide everything else needed to steadily wear Iragoth down.

Block Debuffs & Cleanser Champions

Block Debuffs is one of the safest ways to deal with Iragoth’s Block Active Skills, especially when cooldown manipulation has forced him into repeatedly using his A1. Maintaining this protection can also help against effects from the Eternal Guards. Passive cleansers such as Doompriest or Tuhanarak can work well here, alongside low cooldown active cleansers or Resistance based setups.

HP Burn & Damage

Strong AoE damage dealers such as Thor can quickly remove the Eternal Minions, while powerful single target Champions can focus down priority targets and Iragoth himself. HP Burn provides consistent damage throughout the encounter, while Enemy MAX HP attacks are excellent for taking chunks out of the boss, especially multi hit options such as Gnut.

Increase Skill Cooldown

Increase Skill Cooldown should be a top priority if you have access to a Champion capable of applying it, as Iragoth is the only boss vulnerable to this mechanic. Locking out his active skills makes the encounter significantly easier, with Champions such as Elegaius able to consistently reapply the effect thanks to their short cooldowns.

Support

If you’re struggling to withstand Iragoth’s attacks, bring additional defensive support to keep the team alive. This can include damage reduction passives from Champions such as Duchess, Decrease ATK to reduce incoming damage, healing for sustain, effects like Shields & Strengthen for protection, and a Revive as additional insurance during longer encounters.

Resistance Route

High Resistance provides another way to deal with Iragoth if you’re lacking consistent Block Debuffs or cleansing. Increase RES, Decrease ACC, Resistance Auras, and strong RES stats can all help your Champions resist the boss’s effects and maintain access to their important skills.

Eternal Dragon Team example

Here is a team example for taking down the Eternal Dragon, combining several of the key roles that can make the encounter much more manageable. Use this as a framework for building your own team, adapting each role around the Champions available on your account.

Elegaius

Following the rebalance, Elegaius has become a much stronger option for the Eternal Dragon. The main role here is putting the boss’s skills on cooldown, with the ability itself cycling on a 3 turn cooldown once booked, allowing the effect to be applied consistently throughout the fight. The AoE Turn Meter reduction can also push back the Eternal Minions, while the passive provides additional survivability against fatal hits.

Michelangelo

Michelangelo Portrait

Michelangelo is in the team for Decrease ATK and Leech, helping reduce incoming damage while allowing allies to recover HP through the damage they deal. His strong damage helps take down both Iragoth and the Eternal Minions, while self Shields provide additional protection when attacked. Decrease DEF and debuff spreading also help increase the damage your team can deal throughout the fight.

Donatello

Donatello Portrait

Donatello works as the team’s cleanser for any bad moments where Block Active Skills slips through, while also bringing plenty of additional support through Strengthen, Increase SPD, and Turn Meter boosts. Reducing ally skill cooldowns by 2 turns can also help the team recover if Iragoth manages to increase their cooldowns. The synergy with Michelangelo provides additional value, while Donatello’s passive can help keep an ally alive when they would otherwise receive a fatal hit.

Geomancer

Geomancer-Portrait

Geomancer brings HP Burn and Weaken to help wear down the boss and enhance your team’s damage, but it’s the passive that really sets him apart. Enemies under Geomancer’s HP Burn deal 15% less damage to allies, while a portion of incoming attacks can be deflected back with a chance of dealing additional damage equal to 3% of the target’s MAX HP when Geomancer is hit. His A1 also brings Decrease ACC, making him particularly useful for Resistance based strategies.

Duchess

Duchess Lilitu

Duchess passively reduces the damage allies receive from AoE attacks by 15% against bosses, helping the team withstand Iragoth’s repeated attacks. She also brings Block Debuffs to counter effects such as Block Active Skills, alongside Perfect Veil for additional protection, a full team revive for moments where allies fall, and a Speed Aura.

Tips for taking on the Eternal Dragon

  • Increase the Boss’s Skill Cooldowns – Iragoth is vulnerable to Increase Skill Cooldown, making this one of the strongest ways to control the encounter. Keeping his active skills locked out forces him towards his default attack and greatly reduces the pressure on your team.
  • Prioritize the Eternal Priest – If Iragoth consumes an Eternal Priest, his skill cooldowns are completely reset and he gains an Extra Turn. Killing the Priest first prevents this while also resetting your own Champions’ skill cooldowns, helping you regain access to important abilities.
  • Manage the Eternal Guards – Eternal Guards can make the encounter more difficult, while Iragoth can consume one to heal himself by 15% MAX HP if no Priest is available. Strong AoE damage can help clear the minions while continuing to wear down the boss.
  • Prepare for Block Active Skills – Iragoth’s default attack can place Block Active Skills across your team, which becomes particularly relevant when cooldown manipulation forces him to repeatedly use it. Block Debuffs, passive cleansing, low cooldown cleansers, or enough Resistance can help keep your important skills available.
  • Consider a Resistance Strategy – If you can’t reliably control Iragoth’s cooldowns, high Resistance provides another route through the encounter. Increase RES, Decrease ACC, Resistance Auras, and strong RES builds can help prevent his dangerous effects from disrupting your team.
  • Bring Enough Minion Damage – Champions with strong AoE attacks can quickly deal with the Eternal Priest and Guards without sacrificing too much damage against Iragoth. You can also use powerful single target Champions to quickly eliminate the Priest whenever it appears.
  • Reduce the Incoming Damage – Decrease ATK, Strengthen, Shields, healing, damage reduction passives, and Revive can all help keep your team sustained if the fight begins to drag out. This becomes increasingly important if Iragoth manages to regain access to his active skills.
  • Take Advantage of Enemy MAX HP Damage – Enemy MAX HP Champions can deal significant damage to Iragoth, with multi hit options such as Gnut particularly effective for quickly wearing down his health. Just remember that each hit is capped at 10% of the boss’s MAX HP.
  • Use HP Burn for Consistent Damage – HP Burn provides another reliable way to steadily wear down Iragoth while you focus on controlling his skills and managing the minions. Champions such as Geomancer can also provide valuable defensive and damage utility alongside their HP Burn.
  • Check the Stages Tool Before Building – Iragoth’s requirements change depending on the stage you’re facing. Use the Stages Tool to check specific Speed, Accuracy, Resistance, and other stat requirements so you can build your Champions appropriately rather than relying on one set of numbers for every encounter.
