What Enemy MAX HP Damage Means

How Enemy MAX HP Damage Works

Damaging abilities in RAID: Shadow Legends can be based on a number of stats: a champion’s ATK stat is the most common, but other stats such as HP, DEF, SPD, or more can play a role too.

One of the most unique types of damage is Enemy MAX HP Damage. This type of damage is not based on your champion’s HP, but rather the enemy‘s HP. This means that the more HP an enemy has, the harder the attack will hit!

Note that this type of damage often can crit, and will therefore scale off your champions C.DMG% stat. It is also nearly always reduced by enemy DEF stats, so Ignore DEF stats on your champion will increase the damage.

Why This Damage Is Strong Against Bosses

In short, whereas champions might have 30,000 or even (at the very high end) 150,000 HP, bosses can have millions of HP, enabling Enemy MAX HP hits to have incredible damage potential!

This damage potential is so strong that the best strategies for most bosses in the first couple of years of the game involved simply one-shotting the bosses building these champions properly; since then, Plarium has added damage caps to these attacks. We first saw bosses with a 10% MAX HP damage cap (e.g. Dragon Hard), followed by 5% caps (e.g. Amius) as stronger MAX HP damage champions were added. Clan Bosses (who have the most HP by far) typically have explicit caps listed in their passive skills. It’s very possible that harsher caps could even be introduced in the future.

Why Enemy MAX HP Champions Are Valuable

Gnut Fusion

Faster Dungeon Boss Fights

Enemy MAX HP Damage dealers are particularly useful for speed farming Dungeon and Doom Tower bosses.

For early-game dungeons (i.e. Potion Keeps and stages 1-20 of Normal Dragon, Ice Golem, Spider, and Fire Knight), you can one-shot the bosses with a great build–or deal massive damage with even a basic one–due to the lack of a cap to this damage type.

For later-game dungeons and Doom Tower, Enemy MAX HP damage is fantastic for clearing waves, since they have no damage taken cap, but it is more intricate to build a boss team. These bosses typically have a 10% Enemy MAX HP damage cap, so you can build a one- or two-shot team with multi-hitting Enemy MAX HP champions, such as Gnut, or you can simply use it as a great source of consistent damage.

Consistent Boss Damage

The great thing about Enemy MAX HP champions is that it is often easier to hit high damage numbers thanks to their scaling, compared to regular damage dealers, and it is easy to calculate how to beat a boss.

For example, a classic team for Sand Devil is Siphi, Quintus, Gnut, Gnut, Kymar:

  • Siphi Sleeps the boss.
  • Quintus applies Decrease DEF.
  • The boss wakes up, but has missed his turn.
  • Both Gnuts attack, each dealing 3 hits of 10% MAX HP, for 60% boss damage total.
  • Kymar resets everyone’s abilities, and the cycle repeats (ending at 120% boss damage, and a dead boss!!)

Even if you can’t build a perfectly calibrated team like this, you can still do huge amounts of boss damage very easily by including Enemy MAX HP damage dealers.

Also note that it is often easier to build these damage dealers with more defensive stats than your typical ATK-based damage dealers, making it easier to keep them alive during boss fights!

Armiger

Armiger is an OG classic champion–and the first time an Uncommon makes one of these lists! He can deal an Enemy MAX HP hit on his A2 on a short 2-turn cooldown, making him an accessible and consistent option for solid boss damage. He’s equally famous for his A1, which brings consistent TM reduction–a key strategy for early bosses such as Fire Knight or Spider.

Coldheart

Coldheart-Portrait

Coldheart is the best rare champion in the game, with her Enemy MAX HP damage A3 playing a huge role. Thanks to her void affinity, Coldheart can bring huge hits to bear against any early-mid-game boss, whilst also providing huge TM depletion against key bosses such as Fire Knight or the Dark Fae. She also has a fantastic 4-hit A1 attack which the AI is smart enough to use against the Fire Knight shield as needed.

Royal Guard

Royal Guard, one of Nub Raids's Top 10 Epic Champions for Ice Golem.

Royal Guard is the first champion on the list who brings an AoE Enemy MAX HP hit to the list. This makes him a standout champion against multiple enemies, such as waves or Hydra Clan Boss, providing consistent AoE damage. He has great utility on his other abilities as well, making him a great all-rounder.

Husk

Husk is very similar to Royal Guard, with each performing slightly better against different bosses depending on their affinity matchups. Husk’s unique feature is his chance to Provoke on his A1, making him a great beginner choice for Hydra where he can help to control the Head of Decay.

Seer

Seer is in contention for the best epic in the game, and her claim to fame is a truly unique Enemy MAX HP attack on her A3 due to additional scaling off the number of buffs on your team. In short, by stacking enough buffs, Seer can hit harder than almost any champion in the game, making her a premiere choice for wave-clear even for end-game whale accounts!

Acrizia

Acrizia has a rather unique ability to deal Enemy MAX HP damage with every attack thanks to her passive. She has a 2-hit AoE attack on her A2, as well as a 2-hit single-target TM stealing attack on her A3. On top of this, her passive helps her stay alive against bosses, making her a survivable and very reliable champion for doing consistent boss damage.

Cecilia the Red Hope

Cecilia is a new champion who brings a 2-hit AoE Enemy MAX HP attack, providing solid damage output. What sets her apart, however, is her amazing A3, which provides Counterattack and other buffs for your entire team, providing a significant boost in both damage and survivability for your teams.

Gnut

Gnut is famous for being the first champion with a 3-hit Enemy MAX HP attack; remember that due to damage caps, more hits is essentially a massive boost to this type of damage. Send in Gnut and a 2-hit Enemy MAX HP champion, and you’ve dealt 50% damage to a boss–reset them and go again, and the boss is dead! Gnut also has a fantastic A1 which is perfectly designed for both Normal and Hard difficulty of Fire Knight, opening up Fire Knight Hard farm for anyone lucky enough to pull him.

Marius the Gallant

Marius the Gallant Portrait

Despite being a “free” champion, Marius is probably the best Enemy MAX HP champion in the entire game. While Gnut impressed with a 4-turn 3-hit attack, Marius brings in a 3-turn 3-hit attack… That is AoE. To make it even more ridiculous he can even reduce its cooldown more thanks to the Extra Turn on his A3. This makes him by far the best AoE Enemy MAX HP champion in the game, plus he has a fantastic A1, buff removal on his A2 (countering both Stoneskin and the new Mercurial set) and an incredible anti-mythical passive which have propelled him to the top of basically every PvP meta in the game.

It takes a long time to earn Marius, but when you do your account will never be the same again.

Arachoa Moonspinner

Arachoa Portrait

Arachoa is a relatively new mythical champion who has been very overlooked by the community. That being said, her Alternate Form has an impressive 3-hit Enemy MAX HP attack with a short 3-turn cooldown–and she pairs that with a ludicrous amount of Turn Meter gain on every single attack. Putting all this together, she should provide the most consistent sustained Enemy MAX HP damage output against any single-target boss in the game. Don’t be put off by the bad reviews if you pull her; this champion could be a huge asset to your account in most content (and she looks to be a decent option in PvP in the Mercurial meta as well!).

How to Build Enemy MAX HP Champions

Critical Rate and Critical Damage

Like regular crit-damage dealers, Enemy MAX HP damage typically scales off crits as well. To maximise your damage, you will want 100% C.RATE% on the attack and as much C.DMG% as possible.

Accuracy for Additional Effects

Any effects or debuffs which are core parts of your champions kits (e.g. Armiger or Coldheart reducing Turn Meter) will require ACC, so build enough ACC for the stage you are attempting. Check out our Raid Stages Tool for tailored info!

Recommended Artifact Sets

The most common artifact sets are ones which add Ignore DEF, since this will make it much easier to hit the damage caps of Enemy MAX HP damage. Cooldown reduction and/or SPD is another viable build path, enabling you to use these abilities more often. Finally, any sets which boost ACC are a good option for champions who require it.
