How the Seal Debuff Works
There are two versions of this debuff: Seal and Master Seal.
Seal blocks the effects of Artifact Sets and Masteries, while still allowing Champions to benefit from the raw stat bonuses provided by their Artifacts, Accessories, and Masteries. This makes it a niche but useful debuff, particularly in Arena, where it can disable gear set effects such as Stun, Freeze, or Provoke, while also preventing offensive bonuses from sets like Savage and Lethal, or Masteries such as Helmsmasher. It can also help counter Mercurial, provided you’ve removed its Total Guard stacks beforehand, preventing the set from generating new ones while Seal remains active.
How the Master Seal Debuff Works
Master Seal is an enhanced version of Seal, currently only used by Isheth in the Grim Forest. In addition to blocking the effects of Artifact Sets and Masteries, it also disables the effects of Blessings, Relics, and Gemstones, again leaving only their direct stat bonuses active.
It’s worth noting that neither debuff removes effects that have already activated before being applied. Instead, they prevent those effects from triggering while the debuff remains active.
Why Seal and Master Seal are valuable
Seal and Master Seal are most valuable against heavily invested Champions, nullifying many of the effects granted by their builds while leaving their stat boosts untouched. This greatly reduces the impact of their gear, Masteries, and, in the case of Master Seal, even Blessings, Relics, and Gemstones, making many of their advantages ineffective. While these debuffs are niche, they can be effective in Arena or against encounters where enemies rely on these extra effects to maximise their effectiveness.
Best areas to use Seal and Master Seal
Arena
Seal can be particularly effective in PvP by reducing the impact of Champions that rely on the effects from their gear & Masteries to maximise their performance. Disabling these effects can make teams easier to break through, reduce offensive pressure, and prevent many utility effects from activating, allowing your team to deal with them more consistently.
That said, the current Arena meta includes several ways to counter the application of Seal. Buffs such as Stoneskin or Total Guard can prevent it from landing or taking effect immediately. Pairing Seal with buff removal, buff duration reduction, or carefully timing when you apply the debuff after these protections have been removed can improve its effectiveness.
Niche PVE
The debuff is primarily focused on PvP due to the types of effects it counters, where Champions rely heavily on their gear, Masteries, and other build enhancements to perform at their best. Its PvE value is much more limited, mainly finding niche use in select high end Event Dungeon encounters and the Grim Forest.
Seal champions in raid
Here we’ll be highlighting the Seal and Master Seal Champions in Raid: Shadow Legends, showcasing the strengths they bring. Currently, only two Champions are capable of placing Seal, but we’ll continue to update this guide as more Champions with the debuff, or Master Seal are released.
April
April is a Champion built around the unique Seal and Nullify debuffs, helping shut down many of the passive effects and instant mechanics enemies rely on. Her A3 enables this by placing Increase ACC on allies, reducing enemy Turn Meters, and granting herself an Extra Turn to chain straight into her A2, which steals all buffs and Turn Meter before applying both debuffs.
Her passive further strengthens her control by punishing enemies whenever blocked effects are attempted or debuffs are removed, while her A1 provides additional control and self protection through Perfect Veil. Although designed for Arena, she can also offer useful Turn Meter control in encounters such as Fire Knight & Dark Fae.
Karnage
Karnage is a Mythical Champion who brings the unique Seal debuff alongside strong control. His A3 first places Block Active Skills and Block Passive Skills before stealing 100% of the target’s Turn Meter, leaving priority enemies restricted. His passive can then spread these debuffs with each hit, with a guaranteed spread when he kills an enemy, potentially extending that control across the entire team.
He also offers full buff stealing, HP swaps, and frequent counterattacks in his Base Form. Once transformed, Karnage becomes a high damage nuker with powerful AoE attacks, revive prevention, and damage scaling.
How to build Seal and Master Seal Champions
Build Focus
Champions who place Seal should prioritise Accuracy to ensure the debuff lands consistently, alongside enough Speed to act before the enemy or cycle back to their skills more frequently. As a general guideline, aim for around 25 more ACC than your target’s RES, using tools such as the Raid Stages Tool to identify the requirements for specific encounters.
Beyond this, build around the Champion’s primary role. Damage dealers should focus on their primary scaling stat alongside 100% C.Rate and high C.DMG to maximise their damage while nullifying enemy build effects, while support Champions such as April benefit from Speed and Accuracy focused builds, backed up with enough survivability through HP and DEF to continue controlling the fight.
Recommended Artifact Sets
Artifact Sets should focus on helping you apply the debuff consistently while focusing on the Champion’s primary role. Accuracy focused sets such as Perception, Pinpoint, and Feral are excellent choices for reaching the necessary thresholds, while offensive sets like Savage, Lethal, or Merciless are ideal for damage dealers such as Karnage. In PvP, defensive options like Stoneskin & Mecurial can also be valuable, helping protect them until they’re ready to apply Seal.
As more Champions capable of placing this debuff are introduced, buff focused options may instead prefer sets such as Protection & Bolster alongside Accuracy focused gear, allowing them to safeguard buffs, improve survivability, and reliably apply Seal throughout the fight.
Tips for using Seal and Master Seal Champions
Seal is most effective when applied to the enemy Champions that rely the most on their build to perform at their best, helping nullify the passive effects granted by their Artifact Sets and Masteries. If Champions capable of placing Master Seal are introduced, this becomes even more impactful by also disabling the effects of Blessings, Relics, and Gemstones, further reducing the value enemies gain from their overall build.
Because Seal can be blocked or delayed by defensive buffs in PvP, it’s often best to remove or reduce those buffs before applying the debuff. Pairing it with buff removal, buff duration reduction, or other forms of crowd control helps keep enemies vulnerable, while Champions capable of spreading Seal can quickly reduce the effectiveness of an entire enemy team rather than just a single target.
