What Freeze Does in Raid

How the Freeze Debuff Works
Freeze prevents champions from taking a turn. It can be considered as a weaker version of the Stun debuff.
Unlike other crowd control debuffs, Freeze will reduce damage taken by champions by 25% as its main downside.
Why Freeze Is Important
Although Freeze is not as good as Stun, it is often good enough to simply prevent your opponent from taking a turn–and Freeze is one of the very best debuffs at doing this!
There are also many specialist Freeze champions who have unique interactions with the Freeze debuff. These specialists can often apply Freeze much more often than Stun specialists can apply Stun.
Note that there are some gear sets (e.g. Frost) which can apply Freeze to enemies when you are attacked, but these are not commonly used.
Finally, Freeze is also crucial against Hard Mode Fire Knight: on this difficulty, Decrease Turn Meter no longer works and you must use Freeze debuffs instead. It is also extremely important against Tauraze in Grim Forest and is an option against Bommal in Doom Tower.
Tips for Using Freeze Champions

Target Dangerous Enemies
Some Freeze champions have single-target Freezes, so you will have to choose your target carefully.
In wave content the best champion to Freeze may not always be the enemy damage dealer. For example, their damage dealer is probably far less dangerous than an enemy Odin who can Remove Buffs and place Stun and Decrease DEF on your entire team. Or perhaps they have a reviver like Hilvi who is about to revive her entire team. Think about who the most dangerous enemy to your team is over the next 5 or 6 turns to find the best target.
You also need to be very wary of enemies who can Remove Debuffs: there is little point in landing Freeze on a damage dealer if a champion like Elva is not affected and is able to remove the Freeze before the damage dealer ever takes a turn.
Finally, if enemies have Block Debuffs, Stoneskin, or Total Guard, etc. you should delay your Freeze debuffs until they will actually work.
Look for Combos
Unlike most other crowd control debuffs, Freeze champions have a ton of special combos.
Lady Noelle, for example, reduces the SPD of enemies who have Freeze debuffs, and can trigger extra effects against them–not to mention her partnership with Sir Nicholas!
Hilvi will apply HP Burn and Steal a buff off any enemy who receives a Freeze debuff–not to mention her partnership with Tormin!
Best Freeze Champions in Raid
Here we’ve listed 10 of the most best Freeze champions in RAID: Shadow Legends. This list is not exhaustive, but it should steer you in the right direction for knowing what makes these types of champions so powerful! Check out our Champion Tier List for more info.
Neldor Rimeblade

Neldor is a fantastic epic who synergises very well with other Freeze champions. Whenever another champion lands a Freeze, he has a chance to attack with his A1 with his passive, potentially landing more Freezes. He’s a specialist for Fire Knight Hard Difficulty thanks to his multi-hits, Freezes, and Decrease SPD debuffs–but don’t underestimate him in other content either!
Criodan the Blue

Blizaar the Howler

Yakarl the Scourge

Yakarl can be unlocked for free from the Clan Shop and is a very underrated champion. He’s a hybrid damage dealer, bringing a mix of strong damage alonside strong Freeze and Speed control. He’s a great champion for all versions of Fire Knight and the Dark Fae, where his control can dominate the bosses and his damage can decimate the waves.
Lady Noelle

Lady Noelle is at her best when paired with her partner champion, Sir Nicholas, unlocking extra effects against frozen enemies and spamming Unkillable buffs on your team. For Grim Forest or Ice Golem bosses, this Unkillable spam can get you through otherwise unsurvivable fights, and she is a top pick in PvP. Her A3 is her overall highlight, being the only 3-turn cooldown full team revive in the game–and it comes paired with a potentially unblockable Freeze!
Gliseah Soulguide

Gliseah is a recent MVP in RAID thanks to her recent buff, making her a very powerful PvP champion. Her ability to prevent Increase Skill Cooldown champions like Fabian or Krixia from locking out your team makes her incredibly valuable in the current PvP meta, and she pairs this with tons of Freeze debuffs and other fantastic utility such as Stealing buffs and placing Block Debuffs on her team with Turn Meter Boosts.
Hilvi the Rime-called

Hilvi is the new queen of Freeze thanks to her partnership with Tormin the Cold, turning him into a Freeze-spamming machine gun! She has a very cool passive which Steals a buff and places HP Burn on any enemy that receives Freeze–and he A2 which Removes Buffs before placing Freeze lets her land it all even on enemies with Block Debuffs.
Tormin the Cold

Tormin broke the game when he was first released and had to be nerfed… But with Hilvi arriving in late 2025, he has become the king of Freeze once again! He can Freeze with his A1 (a move which he uses constantly when paired with Hilvi). His passive is what makes him so good at Freeze, however, giving a decent chance to place Freeze on an enemy whenever the receive a buff or get their turn meter filled. This can easily keep an entire enemy team chain-frozen if they are not prepared to deal with Tormin!
Polara Fireheart

Polara is arguably the worst mythical champion in the game, but there’s no doubt that she’s a decent Freeze champion in her Alternate Form. This form is one of the only ways to get the Intecept buff on your whole team, which protects you from crowd control, and it has a very unique passive which lets everyone on your team cheat death once, returning to life frozen. Her Base Form can deal big damage against Frozen enemies–and even more if they have HP Burn as well. Good news too: we expect Polara to be buffed sooner or later, so watch this spot.
Fjorad Wolfheart

Fjorad is the mythical purely dedicated to Freeze… and unfortunately he’s a bit underwhelming. That being said, his Base Form provides tons of utility, places AoE Freezes, Increase SPD and Decrease SPD, Block Debuffs and Cooldown Reduction: it’s a genuinely value-packed kit. His Alternate Form is the main struggle, since it is a damage-dealing form which relies on enemies having Freeze debuffs–something which is incredibly difficult to guarantee in the current meta and with the short 1-turn duration of most Freeze debuffs.
How to Build Freeze Champions

ACC Requirements
Landing debuffs or negative effects in RAID nearly always relies on beating the enemy’s RES stat with your ACC stat. You should aim for 25 ACC more than the enemy has RES. For example, Dragon Normal Stage 20 has 200 RES, so you should aim for 225 ACC.
Check out our Raid Stages Tool to see the RES and ACC requirements for almost any fight in the entire game!
SPD Requirements
SPD is the other key stat for Freeze champions. Unlike standard debuffs, Freeze debuffs usually only last for 1 turn, with only a few particularly special champions placing it for 2 turns. Therefore you will want to build very high SPD on these champions to rotate through their skills as quickly as possible in order to maintain maximum uptime.
SPD is particularly important for PvP content, since the player whose CC champion goes first is usally at a massive advantage. Players will often build control champions in the fastest gear on their entire account. Speed boosters are the only type of champion who might get higher priority on SPD gear, since they can reach higher potential SPD in realistic builds due to not needing to build any ACC.
In PvE, you should still build high SPD but you can balance it out with more defensive stats or versatile gear sets.
Recommended Artifact Sets
Any sets which increase SPD or ACC are the perfect choice for control champions.
Cooldown reduction sets such as Reflex or Impulse are very useful for PvE content, where there is less of a desperate need for SPD.
In PvP, Supersonic or Mercurial are top-tier sets which provide SPD alongside incredibly powerful effects.
Frostbite set from the Frost Spider in Doom Tower can be an interesting filler option for Freeze champions, giving them an extra way to land Freeze.
