How to Beat Tauraze, The Bestial Flame

Tauraze is the Grim Forest HP Burn boss, and his kit is built to do two things at once: lock you out of your skills and then punish you for trying to “DPS race” through it. If you walk in without an answer to Slash and Burn and his Turn Meter passive, he can very quickly take over the fight.

The good news is that Tauraze is very manageable once you treat him like a control boss. You’re not trying to out-tank infinite Burns — you’re trying to prevent the key debuffs, keep his turn meter in check, and then push damage through his shield windows.

The fight revolves around Slash and Burn (Cooldown 4). It’s an AoE that places HP Burn (3 turns) and Block Active Skills (2 turns). If that lands unprotected, your team takes amplified Burn pressure, and you lose access to the very abilities you need to stabilise (cleanses, Block Debuffs, big heals, key damage skills). That’s how the runs spiral.

He also has Inferno Incarnate (Cooldown 3), which gives him Counterattack and a Shield worth 30% of his MAX HP. That shield is unremovable, so you can’t solve it with a buff strip — you either wait it out or punch through it.

Finally, his passives are what make him feel “fast” and oppressive. Wildfire Soul fills his turn meter by 20% per hit whenever he’s attacked by an enemy without HP Burn, which means multi-hitters and ally attack comps can accidentally turbo-charge him. The same passive also says he won’t gain that turn meter if he is under Freeze, which is one of your cleanest counterplays.

The core win condition: Block Debuffs before Slash and Burn

The single most consistent way to beat Tauraze is to time Block Debuffs so it’s active before his Slash and Burn lands. If you do that, you avoid both the HP Burns and the Block Active Skills, which means your rotation stays intact and you’re free to control the fight normally.

If you don’t have a strong Block Debuffs option, you can still win, but the fight becomes much more stat- and timing-dependent. You’ll need a cleanser who can immediately remove HP Burn and Block Active Skills, and you’ll need to survive long enough to get your kit back online. That’s doable, but it’s noticeably harder than simply blocking the debuffs in the first place.

Freeze is the “turn meter brake” that makes the fight stable

Tauraze Freeze

Because Tauraze gains turn meter per hit when attackers are not burned, the battle can feel like he’s taking endless turns — especially into multi-hit damage dealers. Freeze is the most straightforward answer because it directly shuts off the turn meter gain while it’s active.

This gives you two big advantages at once. First, it stops the “per hit” acceleration from spiralling out of control. Second, it buys you safer windows to refresh Block Debuffs, reset your cooldowns, or set up a damage burst without Tauraze immediately cutting in.

If you’re struggling, don’t think of Freeze as “nice to have.” Treat it like one of your primary tools for making the fight predictable.

How to approach his unremovable Shield and Counterattack

When Inferno Incarnate goes up, don’t waste mental energy trying to strip it — you can’t. Instead, make a decision based on your team’s strengths.

If you have enough damage to break through, you can push right into it, but be aware that Counterattack can punish fragile attackers and can also add extra hits that feed into his turn meter mechanic when he isn’t frozen. If you don’t have the damage to reliably punch the shield, slow down a little, keep your defensive layers active, and plan to do your “real” damage after the shield falls off.

Key Progression Tips

Your first priority is a fast, reliable Block Debuffs champion. This is what prevents Tauraze’s most punishing turn from landing and keeps your team functioning.

Your second priority is either Freeze access or a way to keep Tauraze controlled during the moments he isn’t frozen (strong sustain plus careful pacing can work, but Freeze is cleaner). This is especially important if your damage profile involves multi-hits, ally attacks, or counterattacks.

After that, bring damage that doesn’t rely on enemy MAX HP, because Tauraze has boss passives that limit that style of damage. Standard damage debuffs like Decrease DEF and Weaken will help you punch through his shield windows faster, which reduces the number of rotations you need to survive.
