The Tin Woodman Overview

Godforge Early Access

The Tin Woodman is one of the 5 champions dropping in the Echoes of Oz campaign event. Based on previous campaign events, we are expecting to see some sort of guaranteed event for him (such as a Deck of Fate or a Hero’s Path) but, at time of writing, this has not been confirmed.

The Tin Woodman looks incredibly strong on paper–but, as with all new damage dealers, a lot of that potential will depend on how much damage he does when we actually get to test him… That being said, we have high expectations.

Firstly, The Tin Woodman brings what is essentially a full team Ally Attack on his A2 on a 4-turn cooldown. It should be quite easy to crank the damage and Ignore DEF multipliers up, making this one of the strongest Ally Attacks in the entire game. This is particularly useful against the Fire Knight boss, and it’s a top-tier ability against basically every boss in the game. On top of this, it’s a very powerful tool for ripping through Total Guard stacks from Mercurial gear: something which is crucial in the current PvP meta.

Speaking of Mercurial gear: it is very likely that The Tin Woodman will thrive in 9-piece Mercurial due to the high amounts of Ignore DEF he can generate passively through his kit. Indeed, the Total Guard buff will not only count towards boosting his damage stats, it will also help to protect the other buffs which are contributing as well. It’s scary stuff! (One thing we’re not sure of is whether his passive might rip through his Total Guard stacks, which would cripple this strategy).

His passive is very promising as well. Historically, any champion who can scale up their ATK, DEF, or HP by 100% has nearly always ended up as an extremely powerful damage dealer for all the Clan Bosses: look at Ninja or Harima, for example. The one concern here is that he might end up being quite squishy due to the redirected damage he will be taking, but the damage boost should be worth it.

The Revive on Death buffs is his kit are probably not going to be very useful: this buff is very underpowered, and champions who use it often die again before getting to take a turn. His A3 looks to be a great AoE nuke: while Increase C.DMG is an underwhelming buff, 15% Shatter is fantastic (and also very rare).

Putting it all together, The Tin Woodman looks to be one of the best champions added in the Echoes of Oz campaign (and that’s saying something: they’re mostly extremely good champions!). A full team Ally Attack is always great, and if he backs it up with the kind of damage potential that we’re expecting, then everyone is going to be hoping for (or dreading) a guaranteed event for this champion in the next couple of months!
