Were the Clan Boss rewards Nerfed?
There has been a movement in the last few months that the Clan Boss rewards have been nerfed. Like all of you we treasure our Clan Boss chests as they are our main sources of shards and books. So, after hearing this, we here at HH gaming started to collect data to see if the rewards had in fact been nerfed. We started collecting data mined information and static shots of the game and we even got our clan involved sending screenshots of their rewards for both Nightmare and Ultra-Nightmare top chests rewards over a period of a month. That is a lot of data.
We can categorically confirm that there has been no nerf to the rewards in Clan Boss chests. The only thing that has changed is the chance to get 6-star legendary artifacts and this does not affect your chances of getting shards or books.
I think the main problem is that people do not know how the rewards are chosen for the chests. So, lets break it down and understand it.
Understanding how Clan Boss chests work
There are six groups of rewards that can be chosen,
- Artifact
- Shards
- Books
- Brews
- Gems
- Potions
For arguments sake I will use the transcendent chest as an example as it’s the top chest you can get from Ultra-Nightmare.
In the transcendent chest you get a pick of five of the groups. Sometimes this is a little confusing when they pop up due to the brews being separated by affinity but it is still five of the six groups.
If we put this into practice
When you open your chest, the game relies on RNG to pick your first group and so on and so on.
For example:
RNG picks group 6 first, next up group 3 is picked, then 4 and then 5. Now we only have one more group that can be chosen – 1 or 2 and this time around you get group 2.
So, your chest will look like this artifact, book, gems, brews, and potions.
In conclusion, you will always get a book or a shard in the top chest for Clan Boss and if you are lucky, you will get both. However, don’t forget its all about RNG, for the unlucky few you may go a few weeks only getting ancient shards and/or epic books. Its all about RNG.

Thanks for this… but for me I’ve had just the one Sacred shard in the whole time I’ve been hitting the top chest in nm… and that’s a few months now. Seems rubbish when they’ve also taken away the Sacred from the dailies. :'(
I accept I probably shd be investing in my CB team to push for unm but I focus on what I can in the limited time we have.

Look like they still have the sacreds from dailies.. just have to do 30 dailies to get the sacred & void.
I have seen some clan boss top chests only dropping 4 items out of the 6 possible loots. NO book, NO shard, NO gear, NO gems!!! just x1, x3 brews, silver, some potions. I seriously think the game must have glitched, but when I reached out for help, they insisted it was working correctly.
I’ve noticed a reduction in sacreds from Clan Boss in the last 2 months. I think it might be worth re-doing an analysis.
I know this is an old thread. But ever since this last patch my drops have went to crap. I haven’t recorded anything. But I typically do Ultra Nightmare, Nightmare, and brutal daily. Off the top of my head I think I have grabbed 1 sacred and 1-2 legendary in the last 2 weeks. The drops of Ultra nightmare seem to be on par with Nightmare.
