Who Is Amius the lunar archon?

Cursed City: Rotation 1

Amius the Lunar Archon is the main boss of the Cursed City of Sintranos, standing as the final challenge after progressing through its various stages. To reach him, you’ll need to battle through waves of enemies and challenging bosses while collecting three Eclipse Keys.

These keys are obtained by defeating specific Double Boss stages scattered throughout the four districts of Sintranos. There are 12 possible stages where the keys can appear, with three required to unlock the final encounter against Amius.

Once you’ve collected all three Eclipse Keys, you can challenge Amius and put your team to the test against his unique mechanics, including his ability to switch between two forms with different skills and effects.

Understanding Amius’s Skills

BASE FORM

Waxing Potence

Waxing Potence attacks all enemies, dealing 10% more damage for each buff active on Amius. He also heals himself for 100% of the damage dealt, including damage absorbed by Shields, making this skill particularly dangerous when he’s heavily buffed.

Keeping his buffs under control / removing them can reduce both the damage he deals and the healing he receives. Heal Reduction is another valuable counter, preventing his recovery and helping your team make consistent progress against his HP.

Lunar Storm

Lunar Storm attacks all enemies, but first increases the duration of Amius’ buffs and decreases the duration of his debuffs by 1 turn. He then heals himself by 20% of his MAX HP, gaining an additional 5% healing for each buff extended, while filling his Turn Meter by 10% for each debuff shortened.

Heal Reduction is particularly important here, as it can significantly limit his recovery. Avoid allowing Amius to keep too many buffs after converting them, and be mindful that debuffs placed on him may expire sooner than expected. This can also disrupt your timing if you’re relying on Decrease ATK or other effects to survive his attacks.

Rampant Chaos

Rampant Chaos is one of Amius’ most disruptive skills, converting debuffs on himself into their mirrored buffs. For example, Decrease ATK becomes Increase ATK, Heal Reduction becomes Continuous Heal, and Weaken becomes Strengthen. Block Buffs is also replaced with Block Debuffs, while each converted effect lasts 3 turns.

He then places Stun on all non Mythical Champions for 1 turn and forces Mythical Champions to change Form. Block Debuffs can prevent the Stun, but timing is important, as the skill also fills Amius’ Turn Meter by 10% for each debuff converted.

Avoid stacking unnecessary debuffs immediately before this skill, as well as using key skills early, particularly those that would grant Amius powerful buffs. Keeping Block Debuffs available for your team can prevent the Stun from disrupting your skill rotations.

Robed in Moonlight [P]

This passive allows Amius to recover HP whenever your Champions receive healing, gaining 25% of the original heal amount. He also heals from damage dealt to Shields. More importantly, whenever an ally’s skill cooldown is reduced through a skill, Artifact, Accessory, or Mastery, the cooldown of Amius’ Archon’s Ascendance is also reduced by 1 turn.

This makes cooldown manipulation something to consider carefully when building your team, as it can cause Amius to transform sooner than expected. Avoid unnecessary cooldown reductions unless you’re deliberately using a strategy that manipulates his transformation timing.

Archon’s Ascendance [P]

Archon’s Ascendance controls Amius’ transformation through the Eclipse buff, which lasts 3 turns and cannot be removed, blocked, or manipulated. This passive starts on a 4 turn cooldown and returns to that cooldown whenever Amius enters his Base Form.

If Amius is killed in his Alternate Form while under Eclipse, he revives with 30% HP and 50% Turn Meter. This makes the timing of your finishing blow particularly important.

One strategy is to defeat Amius while he’s in his Base Form, avoiding the Alternate Form revival condition. Alternatively, you can bring a timely used Block Revive, or manage the Eclipse duration and save your strongest damage skills for an opportunity to finish him after switching back to his base form.

ALTERNATE FORM

Abyssal Construct

Abyssal Construct attacks one enemy twice, ignoring 100% of their DEF and dealing 20% more damage for each debuff on the target. If the attack kills a Champion, Amius immediately activates Maniacal Bedlam, potentially disrupting the rest of your team.

This is one of the biggest threats in the encounter, making it valuable to designate a Champion to absorb the attack. Amius targets the Champion with the lowest HP, so building a dedicated tank with strong survivability and a high Awakening Level can significantly improve consistency.

Each Awakening Level reduces the attack’s Ignore DEF effect, making higher Awakened Champions particularly useful for this role. Alternatively, effects such as Taunt from Michelangelo can help redirect attacks away from vulnerable allies, provided the effect is active when needed.

Bloodmoon Vortex

Bloodmoon Vortex attacks all enemies, increasing the duration of their debuffs and decreasing the duration of their buffs by 1 turn before dealing damage. The attack gains additional damage based on each target’s MAX HP for every buff shortened, while also reducing Turn Meter for each debuff extended.

This makes entering the Alternate Form with too many active buffs particularly dangerous, as Amius can turn your team’s protection into additional damage against them. Having Decrease Attack active before the boss transforms is ideal.

Where possible, allow unnecessary buffs to expire before this phase, particularly if you’re preparing for his next skill. Strong healing, cleansing, and well timed defensive support can help your team recover, while higher Awakening Levels reduce the Turn Meter manipulation from this attack.

Maniacal Bedlam

Maniacal Bedlam removes Block Debuffs and replaces it with Block Buffs, while converting positive stat buffs into their mirrored debuffs. For example, Increase ATK becomes Decrease ATK, Strengthen becomes Weaken, and Continuous Heal becomes Heal Reduction.

The skill then places an irresistible and unblockable Sleep on all non Mythical Champions for 1 turn, while forcing Mythical Champions to change Form. Amius also gains 10% Turn Meter for each buff converted into a debuff.

The best approach is to anticipate this skill before entering the Alternate Form. Allow unnecessary buffs to expire rather than giving Amius multiple effects to convert, and avoid wasting important cleansing skills immediately beforehand. Protected Buffs is also a great strategy if you’re able to bring them through skills or the Protection Gear Set.

Since the Sleep cannot be blocked or resisted, prepare to recover once it expires. Having your cleansing, healing, and offensive skills available afterwards can help remove the mirrored debuffs and regain control before Amius follows up with another attack.

Scarlet Eclipse [P]

While Amius is under Eclipse, Scarlet Eclipse reduces the healing your Champions receive by 50% and allows him to ignore Shield, Block Damage, and Unkillable buffs.

It also punishes skill cooldown reductions by immediately activating Abyssal Construct against a random Champion whenever an ally’s cooldown is reduced through a skill, Artifact, Accessory, or Mastery.

This makes relying exclusively on protective buffs risky during the Alternate Form, particularly against his powerful single target attack. Prioritise sufficient HP, removing debuffs, high Awakening Levels, Decrease Attack and reliable healing while avoiding unnecessary cooldown manipulation that could trigger additional attacks.

SHARED PASSIVES (BOTH FORMS)

Almighty Immunity

Amius is immune to most crowd control effects, including Stun, Freeze, Sleep, Provoke, Fear, and Block Active Skills. He’s also immune to HP exchange, HP balancing, and cooldown increasing effects.

Unlike many other bosses, Amius also has Unfaltering Speed, making him immune to Decrease SPD and Turn Meter reduction. Instead of trying to control his turns directly, focus on increasing your team’s SPD, managing skill cooldowns carefully, and preparing for his transformations.

Almighty Strength & Awakened Weakness

Almighty Strength limits the damage dealt by Enemy MAX HP skills to 5% of Amius’ MAX HP in Base Form and 10% in Alternate Form.

Awakened Weakness also makes Awakening Levels particularly valuable. Higher Awakening Levels reduce the damage Amius deals to your Champions while increasing the damage they inflict against him.

This makes high Awakened Champions useful for more than their Blessings alone, particularly when building a dedicated Alternate Form tank or trying to survive his strongest attacks.

Building Out Your Team

Building Your Team & Managing Boss Mechanics

When building your team for Amius, it’s important to consider how you’ll counter his core mechanics across both forms. Heal Reduction is particularly valuable for limiting his healing in Base Form, while Block Debuffs can prevent the Stun from Rampant Chaos. You’ll also want ways to remove any buffs he gains through converting debuffs, alongside avoiding skill cooldown manipulation that could disrupt your timing and force him to transform sooner than expected.

Preparing for the Alternate Form is equally important. Ideally, you’ll want Decrease ATK active to reduce incoming damage, while avoiding entering this phase with too many buffs that Amius can convert into debuffs. If these effects do get converted, having remove debuff skills ready once Sleep expires can help your team recover. It’s also worth building a dedicated Champion capable of surviving Abyssal Construct, allowing you to withstand his powerful single target attacks until he returns to Base Form. Avoid killing Amius during his Alternate Form while Eclipse is active unless you have a way to block or deny his revival.

Manipulating Amius’ Skill Priority

One useful strategy is understanding how your debuffs can influence which skill Amius prioritises when returning to Base Form. If he has two or more debuffs with mirrored equivalents, such as Decrease ATK and Weaken, when Eclipse expires, he’ll prioritise Rampant Chaos to convert them into buffs (Have Block Debuffs active).

However, if there aren’t enough debuffs available to convert, he’ll instead prioritise Lunar Storm, allowing him to heal and manipulate the duration of his buffs and debuffs. This can be particularly dangerous if Heal Reduction has expired, potentially undoing much of your progress.

You can also use this behaviour from the beginning of the encounter, preparing your debuffs around whichever skill you’d prefer to manage first. By timing Heal Reduction, Block Debuffs, and other important effects appropriately, you can influence Amius’ actions rather than simply reacting to them, making the encounter much more predictable.

Heal Reduction & Block Debuffs

Heal Reduction is one of the most important effects against Amius, helping prevent his Base Form from recovering large amounts of HP and undoing your damage. Ideally, you’ll want 100% Heal Reduction available when he’s preparing to use his healing abilities.

Block Debuffs is equally valuable for preventing the Stun from Rampant Chaos, allowing your team to maintain its skill rotations. Timing these effects correctly is important, particularly when transitioning between forms.

Debuffers & Buff Removal

Decrease ATK is particularly useful for reducing incoming damage, especially during Amius’ Alternate Form when his single & AOE target attacks become dangerous. Other effects such as Decrease DEF and Weaken can help increase your damage, although you’ll need to consider how these debuffs interact with his conversion mechanics.

Champions capable of removing or stealing buffs can also help strip away the protection Amius gains through Rampant Chaos. Be mindful of skill cooldown manipulation, as reducing allied cooldowns can interfere with his transformation timing and trigger additional attacks.

Defensive Support & Alternate Form Tank

Strong defensive support is important for surviving Amius’ attacks, with effects like Strengthen, Shields, healing, cleansing, and Revive helping your team recover throughout the encounter. However, Shields and other named buffs have limitations against his Alternate Form, so they shouldn’t be your only source of survival.

Building a dedicated Champion to withstand Abyssal Construct is particularly valuable, as Amius targets the ally with the lowest HP. High Awakening Levels can help reduce the skill’s Ignore DEF, while Champions such as Michelangelo offer alternative protection through Taunt and his Evade passive.

Damage Dealers & Retaliation

Strong boss damage dealers are essential for making consistent progress against Amius, particularly when you have opportunities to attack without triggering his revival. Enemy MAX HP attacks can contribute strong damage, although their effectiveness is limited by the boss’s passive.

Counterattack and Ally Attack Champions can provide additional opportunities to deal damage outside normal turns, helping wear down Amius while your team focuses on surviving his mechanics. Bringing enough damage to finish him during a safe window can also help avoid unnecessary transformations.

Blessings & Additional Support

Brimstone is a valuable Blessing for dealing additional damage through Smite, helping wear down Amius as he uses his active skills. This can be particularly useful for teams relying on sustained damage rather than powerful single target attacks.

Increase SPD, Turn Meter fills, and reliable healing can also help your Champions cycle through important abilities and recover between attacks. Prioritise consistent survival and well timed skills over unnecessary cooldown reduction, allowing you to manage Amius’ transformations more predictably.

Amius Team example

Here is an example team for defeating Amius the Lunar Archon on Hard Mode, combining key roles to manage his form changes, counter his most dangerous abilities, and maintain consistent damage throughout the encounter. Use this as a starting point when building your own team, adapting the Champions and strategies around the options available on your account.

Elva

elva autumnborn portrait

Elva provides valuable support through single target revivals when an ally falls, alongside Remove Debuffs, Increase SPD, and Block Debuffs to help protect the team against Amius’ disruptive abilities. Her passive also provides consistent healing and places Perfect Veil on the most vulnerable ally, offering additional protection throughout the encounter. This makes her an excellent option for maintaining survivability and helping your team recover during bad moments.

Michelangelo

Michelangelo Portrait

Michelangelo provides Decrease ATK and Leech, helping reduce incoming damage while allowing allies to recover HP. His Taunt is particularly valuable for drawing Amius’ powerful Alternate Form attacks towards himself, while his passive Evade chance gives him an opportunity to avoid damage and survive Abyssal Construct. Combined with his self Shields, strong damage, and Decrease DEF, he offers both offensive support and a reliable option for tanking dangerous attacks.

Leminisi

Leminisi the Goldwing Portrait

Leminisi provides valuable support through her A2, removing buffs from Amius after he converts debuffs into their mirrored effects, while her A3 applies Heal Reduction to limit his healing in Base Form. She also takes reduced damage from enemies under Heal Reduction, improving her survivability throughout the encounter. Combined with her solid damage output, this makes her a strong all round option for countering several of Amius’ key mechanics.

Adelyn

Chronicler Adelyn Portrait

Adelyn may not bring groundbreaking skills, but her high Awakening Level makes her a valuable option for applying Brimstone. Timing Smite before Amius uses his active skills can help wear him down, while her healing provides additional support for the team. She also brings Decrease ATK ahead of his Alternate Form, allowing Michelangelo to save his Taunt for the right moment rather than using it to maintain the debuff.

Minaya

Minaya is working alongside Elva and Leminisi to provide additional support when skill rotations fall out of sync. She brings valuable healing, Block Debuffs, and Shields to protect the team, while her A2 places Heal Reduction and Leech to limit Amius’ recovery and help allies sustain themselves. This makes her a reliable option across both forms, ensuring key effects remain available when other Champions have their skills on cooldown.

Tips for taking on Amius

Managing Amius’ Base Form

  • Keep Heal Reduction Active: Amius can recover large amounts of HP through his abilities, making Heal Reduction essential for preventing him from undoing your progress. Aim to have it active before he uses Lunar Storm or other healing attacks.
  • Prepare Block Debuffs: Rampant Chaos can Stun your team, potentially disrupting important skill rotations. Having Block Debuffs active beforehand can prevent this and keep your Champions moving.
  • Control His Buffs: Amius can convert your debuffs into powerful buffs, including Increase ATK and Continuous Heal. Bring a Champion capable of removing these effects, and avoid applying unnecessary debuffs before Rampant Chaos.

Preparing for the Alternate Form

  • Bring a Dedicated Tank: Abyssal Construct targets your lowest HP Champion and ignores DEF, making it particularly dangerous. High Awakening Levels help reduce its effectiveness, while Champions such as Michelangelo can use Taunt and Evade to improve their chances of surviving.
  • Avoid Excessive Buffs: Maniacal Bedlam converts your team’s buffs into mirrored debuffs before applying an unblockable Sleep. Try to enter this phase without unnecessary buffs, or have cleansing skills ready to remove the converted effects afterwards.
  • Maintain Decrease ATK: Keeping Decrease ATK active before Amius transforms can help reduce incoming damage. Time your defensive skills carefully, particularly when preparing for Abyssal Construct and Bloodmoon Vortex.

Controlling Skill Rotations & Transformations

  • Avoid Cooldown Manipulation: Reducing your Champions’ skill cooldowns can accelerate Amius’ transformation in Base Form or trigger an additional Abyssal Construct in Alternate Form. Avoid these effects unless you’re deliberately manipulating his mechanics.
  • Influence His Skill Priority: Having two or more debuffs with mirrored equivalents active as Amius returns to Base Form can encourage him to prioritise Rampant Chaos. Without enough debuffs to convert, he may instead use Lunar Storm, making Heal Reduction particularly important.
  • Time Your Finishing Blow: Avoid killing Amius in Alternate Form while Eclipse is active, as he’ll revive with 30% HP and 50% Turn Meter. Aim to finish him in Base Form or use a reliable way to prevent his revival.

Maximising Damage & Survivability

  • Use Brimstone for Extra Damage: A high Awakening Champion with Brimstone can apply Smite to wear Amius down as he uses active skills. This provides valuable additional damage without relying entirely on your main damage dealers.
  • Consider Retaliation Damage: Counterattack and Ally Attack effects can help your team deal additional damage between normal turns, making them useful for maintaining pressure while managing Amius’ mechanics.
  • Prioritise Reliable Support: Healing, Shields, cleansing, and Revive can help your team recover when things go wrong. Bringing overlapping support effects also provides flexibility when important skills aren’t available at the right moment.
