What Is the Dark Fae?

Doom Tower

The Dark Fae is a boss encountered in Rotation 3 of the Doom Tower, as well as throughout stages of the Proving Grounds & Cursed City. She brings the unique mechanic of spawning perfect Mirror Copies of your Champions when entering the boss phase, identical to your own team in stats and builds, though you’ll have the advantage against the clones if you can outpace the boss.

The encounter revolves around quickly defeating these clones before controlling Astranyx’s Speed and Turn Meter to limit how often she can take a turn. If allowed to cycle her skills, she can Banish one of your Champions and summon another Mirror Copy, steal buffs and Turn Meter, apply True Fear, heal herself depending on your team’s affinities, and deal increasingly dangerous damage while clones remain alive.

Building a team capable of quickly clearing your own copies before locking down the boss is therefore the foundation of a successful Dark Fae strategy. The boss is also home to one of the strongest crafting materials available from the Doom Tower, used to forge Lethal gear – an enhanced version of Savage that provides 25% Ignore DEF alongside 10% C.Rate.

Understanding the Dark Fae’s Mechanics

Darklight Beams

Darklight Beams attacks your entire team and places Leech for 2 turns. While relatively straightforward compared to her other abilities, it allows Astranyx and any Mirror Copies fighting alongside her to recover HP as they deal damage, making it another reason to limit the turns she takes.

Dark Tendrils

Dark Tendrils changes depending on the Affinities within your team. Magic Champions allow Astranyx to steal buffs, Force Champions increase the amount of Turn Meter she steals, Void Champions increase her chance of placing True Fear, and Spirit Champions cause her to heal by 10% of her MAX HP each. This makes your team composition directly influence how dangerous the skill becomes.

Faerie Storm

Faerie Storm attacks your entire team, with every living ally on Astranyx’s side joining the attack. Its damage increases by 25% for each living ally, meaning leaving Mirror Copies alive can quickly make this one of her most dangerous attacks. Taking down your clones as quickly as possible significantly reduces its impact.

Dark Abduction

Dark Abduction banishes one of your Champions, creates a Mirror Copy of them on Astranyx’s team, and places True Fear on your entire team. The banish targets your Champion with the highest ATK, making target selection something you can account for when building your team. If that Champion is under Perfect Veil, Astranyx will instead target the Champion in your Leader position.

Every use also increases her Dark Energy counter, eventually feeding back into her Mirror Copy mechanic. Preventing Astranyx from cycling turns through Speed and Turn Meter control is one of the best ways to delay further Abductions.

Fae Mirror

Fae Mirror defines the encounter, placing Perfect Veil on Astranyx and creating Mirror Copies of your entire team at the start of the boss battle. These copies use your own Champions against you, making it essential to enter the phase with your important skills available and a turn order capable of quickly controlling or defeating them.

Astranyx also gains Dark Energy whenever she uses Dark Abduction. Once the counter reaches 5, she gains Perfect Veil again and summons another full set of Mirror Copies, resetting the counter afterwards. This gives you another reason to keep her Turn Meter controlled and avoid allowing the fight to drag on.

Almighty Immunity

Astranyx is immune to all major forms of crowd control, including Stun, Freeze, Sleep, Provoke, Fear and True Fear, alongside effects such as Block Active Skills and Block Passive Skills. This means your control effects should instead be focused on the Mirror Copies, helping prevent them from taking turns while you clear them.

Almighty Strength

Enemy MAX HP attacks can still be used against the Dark Fae, but each hit is capped at 10% of her MAX HP. They’re still valuable for dealing significant boss damage, particularly when combined with the Turn Meter control needed to prevent Astranyx from cycling her skills.

Almighty Persistence

Turn Meter reduction effects used against Astranyx are reduced by 50%. Despite this penalty, Turn Meter control remains one of the most important mechanics for the encounter, so bringing multiple Champions capable of reducing Turn Meter or Decrease SPD can help keep her locked down for as long as possible.

Building Out Your Team

Clone/Wave Killer

A strong wave and Clone killer is important for clearing the waves leading into the Dark Fae, while having their key skills ready to quickly take down your Mirror Copies once the boss phase begins. They should also bring enough damage or additional utility to help wear down Astranyx afterwards.

Control effects can help prevent the Mirror Copies from cutting in and disrupting your setup, but ideally you want to defeat them as quickly as possible. Leaving Clones alive increases the impact of Faerie Storm, making fast and reliable removal the safer approach.

Speed/Turn Meter Boosters

Speed and Turn Meter boosters are extremely important for helping your team outpace its Mirror Copies, giving you the opportunity to set up and eliminate them before they can cut in. They also help you get ahead of Astranyx during the opening phase, while cycling your team faster to maintain Turn Meter control afterwards.

Keeping your team moving ahead of the boss gives you more opportunities to deal damage, refresh key skills, and maintain control, ultimately leading to faster and more consistent clears.

Boss Damage

Dedicated boss damage dealers are important for wearing down Astranyx once the Mirror Copies are defeated and your Turn Meter control is established. Champions designed for single target encounters can bring strong raw damage, while options such as Coldheart and Gnut use Enemy MAX HP attacks to deal significant damage despite the boss’s 10% MAX HP damage cap per hit.

Damage dealers that bring additional utility can be even more valuable, helping reduce Turn Meter, apply key debuffs, or cycle additional attacks while your team maintains control of the boss.

Speed Control

Speed and Turn Meter control are some of the most important effects for managing the Dark Fae. Bringing multiple Champions capable of reducing Turn Meter can greatly limit how often Astranyx takes a turn, delaying dangerous skills such as Dark Abduction and preventing the fight from getting out of control.

Decrease SPD adds another layer of control by slowing her Turn Meter gain between reductions, making it easier for your team to continuously cycle turns and keep the boss locked down while your damage dealers wear her down.

Reviver/Healing

A reviver like Arbiter can be useful as a safety net if an ally falls, but you generally want to avoid overly tanky Champions, as the Dark Fae creates exact Mirror Copies of your team that can become much harder to take down.

Better boss management through Speed and Turn Meter control is often more valuable, while bringing Decrease ATK & some healing effects such as Leech from Champions such as Deacon Armstrong can often provide enough sustain if Astranyx does manage to cut in and attack your team.

Flex Spot

Your final team slot should be used to fill whatever role your composition is currently lacking. This could be a debuffer to place effects such as Decrease DEF and Weaken for more damage, crowd control, another Turn Meter option to strengthen your lockdown, or simply an additional damage dealer to defeat Astranyx faster.

The goal is to identify where your runs are least consistent and reinforce that area. When farming the Dark Fae for Lethal gear, you ideally want a team that combines these roles effectively while following reliable AI Presets, allowing for fast and consistent Auto runs.

Dark Fae Team Example

Here are five Champions that provide core roles for a consistent Dark Fae team, each bringing valuable effects to counter the boss’s mechanics. Rather than focusing solely on these specific Champions, use the roles they fulfil as a guide when building your own team, adapting your strategy around the Champions available on your account.

Gnut

Gnut is the perfect blend of boss damage and Turn Meter control, with his triple hit Enemy MAX HP A3 capable of quickly wearing down Astranyx. He also brings Weaken and Decrease ATK to enhance your team’s damage and reduce incoming hits, while his multi-hit A1 can repeatedly reduce the boss’s Turn Meter to help maintain control throughout the fight.

Eostrid

Eostrid Dreamsong Picture Profile

Eostrid brings many of the fundamentals needed for both the Mirror Copies and Astranyx herself. She places Increase SPD and Increase ATK on your team while filling their Turn Meters, before gaining an Extra Turn to reduce enemy Turn Meter and apply Decrease SPD and Weaken.

She’s almost like a Legendary version of Deacon Armstrong, combining Speed and Turn Meter manipulation with valuable buffs and debuffs to help your team outpace the clones, control the boss, and enhance your damage.

Alure

Alure

Alure earns her place for one main reason: exceptional Turn Meter control. Her A1 attacks three times at random, with each critical hit reducing Turn Meter by 25%. Once the Mirror Copies are defeated, all three hits are directed towards Astranyx, making Alure one of the strongest options for keeping the boss locked down.

Her A2 can also help control and wear down the Mirror Copies, setting them up for your primary Clone killer to finish them off.

Whisper

Whisper Portrait v2

Whisper is one of the strongest single target Epic boss damage dealers in the game, benefiting from increased damage against bosses, strong raw multipliers, and the potential to ignore 100% DEF with her A2 when attacking under the right conditions.

With Decrease DEF & Weaken active, she can also trigger Extra Turns and repeatedly cycle through her attacks, allowing her to rapidly wear down Astranyx while the rest of your team maintains control. When properly optimised, Whisper is capable of outperforming many higher rarity damage dealers.

Galleus

Galleus represents a flexible slot that can be filled by any Champion capable of quickly clearing waves and dealing with the Mirror Copies. While not the most accessible example as a Mythical Champion, his alternate form can recycle his A2 when killing enemies, making him excellent for quickly progressing through the waves and clones.

Once fighting Astranyx, he also brings a 20% Turn Meter steal and Decrease DEF, adding further boss control while setting up damage alongside allies already providing Weaken.

Tips for taking on the Dark Fae

  • Prepare for your Mirror Copies – Your own Champions become one of the biggest threats in this encounter, so build a team capable of quickly controlling or defeating the clones before they can take over the fight.
  • Enter the boss phase with your skills ready – Avoid wasting important abilities at the end of the second wave. Use AI Presets to control skill usage and ensure your Turn Meter boosts, control, debuffs, and damage skills are available as soon as you reach Astranyx.
  • Outpace your clones – Speed and Turn Meter boosters help your team take control of the opening sequence, allowing you to boost, control, and eliminate the Mirror Copies before they can cut in.
  • Bring reliable Clone and wave damage – Your damage dealer should be capable of clearing the waves while still having the skills required to quickly remove the Mirror Copies. Leaving clones alive also increases the damage of Faerie Storm, so taking them down quickly is important.
  • Layer your Turn Meter control – Multiple Champions capable of reducing Turn Meter can severely limit Astranyx’s turns. Pairing this with Decrease SPD makes maintaining control even easier, delaying dangerous skills such as Dark Abduction.
  • Bring dedicated boss damage – Once the clones are gone and Astranyx is controlled, strong single target damage becomes essential. Raw damage dealers work well, while Enemy MAX HP Champions such as Gnut and Coldheart can combine significant damage with additional utility.
  • Fill any gaps in your team – Your remaining slots can provide Decrease DEF, Weaken, additional Turn Meter control, Speed manipulation, or simply more raw damage. Focus on whatever makes your runs faster and more consistent.
  • Check the Stage Tool before building your team – Each stage has different Speed and Accuracy requirements, alongside different waves leading into the boss. Use the Stages Tool to identify what you’re facing and build your Champions accordingly.
  • Optimise for Auto farming – Dark Fae rewards materials used to forge Lethal gear, making consistent farming particularly valuable. Once your team works manually, refine your speeds and AI Presets so the same opening sequence and boss control can be repeated reliably on Auto.
  • Pay attention to your Affinities – If Astranyx isn’t fully controlled, Dark Tendrils becomes more dangerous depending on your team composition. Magic Champions enable buff steals, Force Champions increase Turn Meter steals, Void Champions increase the chance of True Fear, while Spirit Champions allow the boss to heal. Consider these effects when building your team if you expect Astranyx to take turns.
