What makes these champions similar?

Enemy Max HP Damage

Both of these champions deal damage based on Enemy MAX HP, while also bringing Turn Meter manipulation and useful debuffs to support their kits. Unlike standard damage, this scaling is based on the enemy’s HP rather than your champion’s – meaning the higher the enemy’s HP pool, the harder these abilities hit. While champions may have 30k to 150k HP at the high end, bosses can have millions, allowing Enemy MAX HP skills to deliver exceptional damage against them.

This mechanic was especially dominant in the early years of Raid, where teams could cycle these abilities to quickly defeat bosses. However, to balance this, Plarium introduced damage caps. For example, Dragon beyond Stage 20 on Normal (in to hard) is capped at 10% per hit, while bosses like Amius and those in the Grim Forest are limited to 5%. Clan Boss encounters also include their own caps within their passive skills.

Why They Are Popular For Dungeons

Both Coldheart and Royal Guard bring a powerful combination of effects that make them excellent choices for Dungeons such as Fire Knight, Spider, and Dragon. In Fire Knight, they bring multi-hit abilities to break the shield, alongside Turn Meter control and utility – such as Decrease Speed or Heal Reduction from Coldheart – while also delivering strong Enemy MAX HP damage to speed up runs.

In the Spider Dungeon, both champions can deal similar damage due to boss caps, but Coldheart has the edge thanks to her ability to directly target the boss with Turn Meter control. In contrast, Royal Guard’s random targeting makes it less reliable for controlling the Spider. Despite this, they still pair very well together. Beyond these encounters, both champions provide excellent damage against a wide range of bosses, making them valuable additions to teams in areas like Dark Fae.

Coldheart Overview

Coldheart’s Strengths

Coldheart’s main strength lies in her A3, Heartseeker. On a 4-turn cooldown, she can fully deplete a target’s Turn Meter while dealing Enemy MAX HP damage, alongside gaining an additional 30% Critical Rate for the attack. This makes her very progression friendly, similar to starter champions, as it’s easier to reach the critical cap and allows you to invest more into Accuracy to reliably land her Turn Meter control as you progress.

She also brings a strong four hit A1 with Heal Reduction, making her valuable in encounters that require multiple hits, such as Fire Knight. Her A2 provides Decrease ACC and Poison, offering additional utility through damage over time and reducing the chance of enemies landing debuffs. Overall, Coldheart excels at controlling and dealing heavy damage to bosses – especially those susceptible to Turn Meter manipulation.

Where Coldheart Performs Best

This champion can be used across a wide range of bosses, though she truly shines in encounters like Fire Knight, Spider, Isheth in the Grim Forest, Amius, and the Dark Fae. Heal Reduction was once mainly required for Fire Knight, but with the addition of newer bosses, its value has increased significantly – making Coldheart even more effective, especially with her four-hit A1.

Her strength is further enhanced in fights where Turn Meter control is viable. While many later stage bosses passively reduce Turn Meter effects by 50%, combining multiple champions with similar abilities can still allow you to maintain control. However, in Hard Mode, her effectiveness becomes more limited – Spider is immune to Speed control, and Fire Knight requires Freeze instead – shifting her role more toward damage, Heal Reduction, and multi-hit utility rather than full control.

Royal Guard Overview

Royal Guard

Royal Guard’s Strengths

Royal Guard’s strength lies in his ability to deal AoE Enemy MAX HP damage, allowing him to hit the boss hard while also damaging surrounding enemies such as spiderlings, minions, or Hydra heads. Similar to Coldheart, he brings a four-hit attack – this time on his A3, with each hit having a chance to reduce Turn Meter by 25% and apply Decrease Speed.

In single target encounters like Fire Knight, all of these hits will focus on the boss, helping to break shield counters and maximise Turn Meter control. In multi-target fights like Hydra, the hits are distributed randomly, which can still be beneficial for spreading Decrease Speed across multiple enemies. He also brings Decrease DEF on his A1, synergising well with Weaken debuffs from allies to further boost your team’s overall damage output against any boss.

Where Royal Guard Performs Best

Royal Guard performs best in encounters where Enemy MAX HP damage is highly effective. As you progress through Spider, he can deliver similar damage to Coldheart, but due to his AoE nature, he will also damage the spiderlings – making him less ideal for HP Burn strategies where you want to keep them alive to deal splash damage to the boss.

His strongest areas include Fire Knight, Hydra, and Dark Fae. In Fire Knight, he helps break shield counters, controls the boss, and apply Decrease Speed while dealing strong damage. In Hydra, his AoE attacks allow him to hit all heads while slowing them down, and in Dark Fae, he contributes both control and damage. His value also extends into content like Doom Tower and Faction Wars, wherever this combination of damage and utility is needed.

Key Differences between Coldheart and Royal Guard

Damage Output

When it comes to single target encounters, both champions will deliver a similar level of damage, as they each have a single hit Enemy MAX HP ability on a 4-turn cooldown. However, in multi-target encounters like Hydra, Royal Guard’s damage becomes far more effective, as his AoE allows him to hit all enemies at once – especially when paired with his ability to apply Decrease Speed through his multi-hit skill.

Utility and Skills

While both champions offer similar utility through their Enemy MAX HP damage, there are some key differences between them. Coldheart’s Void affinity makes her reliable across all stages, avoiding weak hits as you progress through Dungeons and Doom Tower. In contrast, Royal Guard, being Magic affinity, can struggle in certain stages like Fire Knight 20 and 24 where weak hits are more likely.

Coldheart also brings value through Heal Reduction, which has become far more relevant in encounters like Amius, Isheth, Nether Spider, and Fire Knight. Having this on a four hit A1 is especially impactful for progression players, particularly given the low investment of Rare skill tomes. Combined with her ability to fully deplete Turn Meter, she excels in fights like Spider, where controlling the boss allows HP Burn strategies to deal consistent damage.

Royal Guard, however, stands out more in multi-target encounters such as waves or Hydra. His AoE damage allows him to hit all enemies at once, while also providing Decrease Speed and Decrease DEF for added utility – slowing enemies down and increasing your team’s overall damage. Ultimately, their value comes down to the encounter, with Coldheart favouring single target control and consistency, and Royal Guard excelling in broader AoE damage scenarios.

Which champion is better for different content

Spider Dungeon

As you progress up to Stage 20 of the Spider, both champions perform very well. Royal Guard helps clear spiderlings while still dealing strong damage to the boss, while Coldheart focuses on controlling and damaging the main Spider. However, as you move toward Stage 25 and shift into HP Burn strategies, Coldheart becomes the safer option. Her single target Turn Meter control, Void affinity, and ability to avoid damaging the spiderlings allow them to remain alive and trigger consistent splash damage onto the boss.

Fire Knight

Both champions perform equally well against this boss, though for slightly different reasons. Coldheart brings a four-hit A1 to help break the shield – especially when paired with Ally Attack – while also applying Heal Reduction, dealing strong damage, and controlling the boss’s Turn Meter. Royal Guard, on the other hand, relies on his active skill for the multi-hits, but once the shield is down, he contributes with Decrease Speed and additional Turn Meter reduction.

There is strong value in running both champions together, but be mindful of stages like 20 and 24, where Royal Guard may weak hit due to affinity, while Coldheart’s Void affinity allows her to perform consistently across all stages.

General Dungeon Farming

Pre-sets are key for both champions, especially in encounters like Fire Knight where speed tuning and skill timing are crucial. Both offer excellent value across all dungeons as Enemy MAX HP damage dealers, but the better choice depends on the utility your team needs. If you’re looking for a Void affinity champion who provides consistent single target control, strong damage, and Heal Reduction, Coldheart is the ideal pick.

If instead you need an AoE Enemy MAX HP champion for progressing through waves & early Spider stages, while also bringing Decrease SPD, Decrease DEF, and Turn Meter control, Royal Guard is a great option. Their value also extends beyond dungeons into areas like the Grim Forest and Doom Tower.

Should you build both champions?

When Both Are Useful

Both of these champions are, in short, absolutely worth investing in, even in 2026. While the game has evolved with newer Enemy MAX HP champions like Gnut and Marius delivering multi-hit versions of this damage, Coldheart and Royal Guard remain incredibly strong options for progressing players.

Coldheart excels in encounters like Fire Knight, Dark Fae, Amius & Isheth where Turn Meter control, Enemy MAX HP damage, and Heal Reduction are essential. Royal Guard, while also effective in many of these areas, stands out more in multi-target encounters such as Hydra, where his AoE damage allows him to pressure multiple enemies at once.

When to Prioritize One Champion

One of the key factors to consider is skill tome investment, with Coldheart being a Rare and Royal Guard an Epic. Depending on your available resources, this can heavily influence your decision – though it should ultimately come down to the utility your team needs most if you’re only choosing one.

Coldheart is the better option if you need strong single target control and Enemy MAX HP damage, combined with A1 multi-hits and Heal Reduction. She excels against bosses like Amius, Isheth, Nether Spider, and Fire Knight, where preventing healing and controlling Turn Meter is crucial. She also performs exceptionally well in higher Spider stages, where directing damage and control solely onto the boss is key.

Royal Guard, on the other hand, offers more value in multi-target scenarios. While still effective in encounters like Fire Knight and Dark Fae, his strength lies in AoE Enemy MAX HP damage, alongside Decrease SPD, Decrease DEF, and Turn Meter reduction through his multi-hit skill. He shines in wave content and Hydra, though in Fire Knight he relies more on skill timing for his multi-hits compared to Coldheart’s consistent A1 synergy with Ally Attack setups.
