Kro’khad the Throatripper – Champion Spotlight
Kro’khad the Throatripper’s fusion event is coming to an end, so in this spotlight we will go through how he works, how to build him, how he combines with Packmaster Shy’ek, and how to use him in your teams in RAID: Shadow Legends.
Check out our dedicated Champion page for Kro’khad for even more info and ratings!
DOES HE NEED PACKMASTER SHY’EK?!

As you can see from his abilities (next section), Kro’khad is hugely reliant on Packmaster Shy’ek: expect him to deal more than twice as much damage in a typical fight if run with Shy’ek.
Luckily, Kro’khad’s damage potential is crazy, so even without Shy’ek he is about as good as an average legendary damage dealer; when paired up with him, you can expect him to be one of the best damage dealers in the entire game.
We have been told by Plarium that there will be some sort of event to help players get their hands on Packmaster if they missed his fusion last year. We don’t know what this event will be, but it is very likely to be worth it if you own Kro’khad but are missing Packmaster.
HOW KRO’KHAD WORKS

Kro’khad is a damage machine and is the very definition of a glass cannon!
A1 – HOUND-TYRANT
This is a huge part of his damage when paired up with Shy’ek, since he will counterattack with double damage every time Shy’ek is attacked (and Shy’ek has Taunt to force many enemies to attack him).
Counting as single-target is particularly strong against the Hydra Clan Boss due to the boss passives which reduce AoE damage there. It also opens up the Murderfang relic as an insanely strong option for Kro’khad, and it synergises better with Packmaster’s Hex debuffs.
Ignoring Poison Cloud, Pain Link, and Reflect Damage is also fantastic for Hydra, where you will face all of these effects. It is also notably useful for Chimera Clan Boss, since the Ram Form reflects a huge amount of damage when not afflicted by True Fear; make sure to turn off his other attacks in this form if you’re struggling to keep him alive.
A2 – FESTERING JAW
This is a very powerful AoE attack when meeting the 2 debuff threshold. Leech and Weaken are also fantastic debuffs for all content and do not overlap with anything Shy’ek brings.
Look to combine Kro’khad with a great Decrease Defence champion, such as Uugo, for Hydra. For single-target bosses you could potentially use Shy’ek for Decrease Defence instead, though you might need an Ally Attack champion for it to be more reliable.
A3 – DOMINANT PREDATOR
This is a massive single-target nuke due to the ignore defence and it does double damage if Shy’ek is on the team. The effects it ignores are mostly relevant for Hydra, and are particularly useful against the Head of Mischief, whose passive redirects attacks, and for saving Devoured champions.
P1 – PRIMAL AMBITION
This passive pushes Kro’khad to crazy damage levels against Hydra and wave-based content; he already has great damage multipliers, so the extra 50% ATK is a true bonus!
The instant activation of his A3 when a Hydra head tries to devour you is amazing, and should instantly break them free even with mediocre gear, making the boss fight significantly easier.
AURA – 30% ATK IN ALL BATTLES
This is a generic but very solid aura, particularly for Hydra where you might not need any extra speed if you are a late-game player.
BEST AREAS AND KRO’KHAD TEAMS

As an AoE damage machine, Kro’khad will dominate any areas with multiple enemies–particuarly when paired with Packmaster Shy’ek against fast enemies who will frequently trigger his counterattacks.
HYDRA CLAN BOSS
Hyda is his premium area without question, with many of his abilities ignoring fundamental Hydra mechanics: he ignores Reflect Damage with his A1; he auto-breaks champions free with his passive when they’re devoured; he ignores Head of Mischief’s redirection passive; etc.
A sample Kro’khad team for Hydra is: Kro’kad the Throatripper; Packmaster Shy’ek; Uugo; Duchess Lilitu; Krisk the Ageless; Lady Mikage.
FACTION WARS (AND OTHER WAVES)
Kro’khad is arguably even better than the Mythicals as a damage dealer for Faction Wars; simply sit back and relax as enemies fire hits into Packmaster and Kro’khad shreds them with counterattacks.
Orcs have the hardest boss in the game on Hard Stage 21, the Purple boss. Kro’khad can easily kill the minions with his A1, ignoring the Reflect Damage one of them places. If you protect him from the Block Active Skills debuff from the boss, he will rip the boss apart with his A3, helping you to easily beat the 12-turn HP-swap timer.
Sample Faction Wars Hard 21 team: Packmaster Shy’ek; Kro’khad the Throatripper; Rakka Viletide; Warlord; Gomlok Skyhide.
ARENA AND SIEGE
Kro’khad is so powerful that he could be a massive threat in arena (we need to see live server testing to fully flesh out his potential though).
Consider how punishing the Taras/Marichka combo can be due to the constant counterattacks from Taras: it’s likely that Packmaster and Kro’khad will work similarly, causing huge problems for champions who can’t help doing AoE attacks.
This combo will also be a strong answer to lockout teams (Yumeko, Krixia, etc.) since Packmaster’s A1 and passive will both cause Kro’khad to do crazy damage regardless.
For this strategy to work, you will likely have to build both Kro’khad and Packmaster in Stoneskin with Lightning Cage blessings, or stack multiple Bolster sets, Reaction accessories, and/or Volcardiac Heart relics.
Finally, note that the pair form a very formidable team alongside the Orc Faction Unity champion, Aragaz Wyldking: Aragaz is immune to coodlown increasing effects and will spam powerful A3 counterattacks as ally HP drops below 50%; he can also help your team surviving and even grant Kro’khad extra turns.
Sample arena team: Packmaster Shy’ek; Kro’khad the Throatripper; Starsage Galathir; Niamhe, Spear of Nyresa.
Sample siege team: Aragaz Wyldking; Packmaster Shy’ek; Kro’khad the Throatripper; Rakka Viletide.
HOW TO BUILD KRO’KHAD

Best Stats
The key stats to look for on Kro’khad are:
- C.RATE%
- C.DMG%
- ATK%
- ACC
- SPD
100% C.RATE% is essential to always crit.
C.DMG% and ATK% should be stacked as much as possible. Use our Optimiser Tool to work out the perfect ratio based on your actual gear.
SPD can be very low, since so much damage comes from his A1’s from Shy’ek’s passives. Aim for around 200+.
ACC is only needed if you do not run him with Shy’ek, or if you are using the Stormcaller relic.
Best Gear Sets
The best sets for Kro’khad are:
- Merciless
- Lethal
- Savage
- Zeal
- Cruel
- Stoneskin
Essentially, we want to give him as much Ignore Defence as possible, then use any sets with damage boosts or other key stats. 9-piece Merciless or 6-piece Merciless with 2-piece Zeal are his best possible builds and will be a massive damage increase over other options.
Stoneskin is only used if you intend to use him in PvP or if you’re struggling to keep him alive against Faction Wars waves.
Best Masteries

BEST BLESSINGS AND RELICS FOR KRO’KHAD
Blessings and Relics will drastically increase Kro’khad’s damage, so it’s essential to make the right choices. Plarium has confirmed there will be an event to get his Perfect Soul (likely up to 5*) but we don’t know what the event will entail yet–but it will be very high value and likely worth doing.
Best Blessings
Check out our Blessings Tier List for full details on all Blessings!
There are a few viable blessings:
- Nature’s Wrath (Epic): This is the best damage option for PvE content from 1-5 star.
- Crushing Rend (Epic): This becomes the best damage option for PvE content at 6-star only
- Lightning Cage (Legendary): This is the best arena option and it’s primary use is to protect the Stoneskin buff on Kro’khad to ensure he gets a turn.
Best Relics
Check out our Relics Tier List for full details on all Relics!
There are several great options for Relics for Kro’khad:
- Stormcaller (Mythical Chimera Relic): This won’t give quite as much damage in PvE as the other options but it is disgustingly powerful in any content where you can land Stuns due to the amount of A1 attacks he will do. Note that you need ACC now to land these Stuns.
- Murderfang (Mythical Clan Relic): This is a really interesting option, pending more testing. Kro’khad uses his A1 more than almost any champion, and it also counts as single-target rather than AoE, which should give him the better damage proc from this relic. We’re not sure without testing if it’s enough damage to outweigh the boosts from other relics, but it’s worth noting as a possibility (and it doesn’t rely on insane gear to scale).
- The Cat’s Gaze (Legendary Event Relic): the best legendary damage relic in the game is (unsurprisingly) amazing for Kro’khad, stacking with the Ignore Defence you’ll get through gear, masteries, and area bonuses. It’s overkill for his A3 but worth it for his other attacks.
- Irethi Coronet (Epic Chimera Relic): this essentially works just like the Nature’s Wrath blessing but it stacks even higher.
- Malefic Talon (Rare Chimera Relic): the best budget relic; essentially a C.DMG% stat-stick.

Good Guide! Wish there would be a info graphic for the packmaster in here as well.
