Borgoth, The Scarab King
Borgoth, the Scarab King appears in Rotation 1 and 3 in the Doom Tower. This challenging encounter will force you to build a team specifically designed to counter her mechanics. Let’s break it down.
Ability Breakdown
Madness Fog [ATK]
Attacks all enemies. Places a 50% [Decrease ATK] and a 30% [Decrease SPD] Debuff for 2 turns. Places an extra hit on enemies with no [Shield] buff. The extra hit places a [Provoke] Debuff for 1 turn.
Vile Absorption [ATK]
Attacks all enemies. Places an extra hit on each enemy for each buff on the target. Each extra hit steals one random buff from enemies that have no [Shield] buff and removes one random buff from enemies under [Shield] buff. Places [True Fear] Debuff for 1 turn on enemies who have buffs stolen and a [Fear] Debuff for 1 turn on enemies who have buffs removed.
Spectral Horror [Passive]
Decreases the damage received according to how much Borgoth’s MAX HP has been decreased. Damage received is decreased by:
⦁ 90% if Borgoth’s Max HP has been decreased less than 10%.
⦁ 60% if Borgoth’s Max HP has been decreased between 10% and 20%.
⦁ 30% if Borgoth’s Max HP has been decreased between 20% and 30%.
⦁ 0% if Borgoth’s Max HP has been decreased more than 30%.
Easy Prey [Passive]
Counterattacks when attacked by enemy that has no [Shield] buff.
Almighty Immunity [Passive]
Immune to [Stun], [Freeze], [Sleep], [Provoke], [Block Cooldown Skills], [Fear] and [True Fear] Debuffs. Also immune to HP exchange effects, HP balancing effects and cooldown increasing effects.
Almighty Tolerance [Passive]
Decreases the damage taken from [Poison] debuffs by 90%.
How to beat the boss!
There are four fundamentals that you should follow when fighting the Scarab boss, Shields, Turn Meter Reduction, Poisons and Reducing Enemy Max HP.
Shields – If you plan to follow any non-solo strategy, your team will require a shield to be up 100% of the time. This is because the boss will counterattack if he is attacked by an unshielded enemy leading to your team taking substantial damage. Failing to do this will likely cause your runs to fail. You should aim to have a couple of people who can use a shield buff just in case they outrun the boss. This is important that your speeds are right and not too quick, so the shields have full effect.
Turn Meter Control – Unlike other Doom Tower bosses, the Scarab King does not reduce the amount of Turn Meter reduction that champions can output. This means that you can create a team to completely avoid the boss taking a turn, so long as you maintain shields throughout.
Poison – The scarab king encases himself in a protective shell when his Max HP is not reduced meaning incoming damage is reduced by up to 90%. Poisons however bypass this mechanic making it entirely possible to kill the boss without needing to break the shell.
Reducing Enemy MAX HP – If you can’t poison, then you will need to bring some form of Enemy Max HP reduction, either through champion skills such as Ithos A1 or through the more accessible route, Destroy Gear. At least 1 or 2 of your team should be built with destroy to break that shield as fast as possible.

Team Compositions
Strategy 1: Solo Method
The idea of this strategy is to have one of the following Champions to solo the boss, due to them placing a shield with either a passive of their A1 ability, they are always covered with a shield and will not get counterattacked. Running them with high resistance will prevent the shields from being stripped and allow them to slowly solo the boss. Urost is unique in this strategy and probably the best as he is able to place poisons using his passive and grow his HP substantially. If you have him – this is the best route to go.
MVP’s for this Strategy
All of the above champions are able to solo this boss very comfortably, all apart from Urost should be using Destroy gear + 1 set of Immortal items to keep themselves topped up, Destroy will allow them to slowly break the bosses shield to the point that it will take regular damage again. For urost, prioritise a slow Regen + Immortal build.
Champion Alternatives
Unfortunately, this strategy doesn’t come with much room for alternatives.
The other champions shown in the team above, are simply there for clearing the waves – these can be swapped for anybody you know can clear the waves and die at the boss.
Strategy 2: Perma Shields
The idea of this strategy is to keep permanent shields on your team while controlling the boss turn meter so that he cannot take a turn.
To do this, you need to make sure your Shield champion is the fastest in your team, and able to place shields permanently. You can use any shielder who can sustain shields 100% of the time to do this (we’ve listed a few below). Additionally, you can cheat the system by running Bloodshield accessories. These provide a shield to the damage dealer and will result in your champion always having a shield (assuming you can keep the boss turn meter down throughout the fight).
You may want to run some of your Turn Meter controllers in Destroy set in this team, to help get the shield on the boss down, enabling you to do damage.
MVPs
Metalshaper – Metalshaper is one of those rares that nobody used prior to Doom Tower. His shield is very weak and based on his level however it is able to be applied every 2 turns for 2 turns making him 100% MVP for this encounter.
Miscreated Monster – Miscreated is able to place 100% uptime on shields, making him the fastest champion in your team will prevent your team from ever getting counterattacked by the boss.
Coldheart – Incredibly valuable in a Destroy set on this fight due to the damage of her A3, while also controlling the boss turn meter.
Stag Knight – Stag Knight is exceptional for this boss, because he brings Decrease SPD on his A1, while also bringing Decrease DEF to help take the boss and its shield down faster.
Armiger – Free to play, easily accessible Turn meter control for this boss.
Visix the Unbowed – An upgraded version of Armiger that you will earn as part of the daily login champions. She may require legendary books to be 100% on her A1 but she will out perform armiger in the long run!
Best team to farm for Forge Materials
Farming Borgoth rewards forge materials to make the Untouchable set. You can read about all the artifact sets you can earn from Doom Tower in our Doom Tower Artifacts Guide.
If you want to Farm Borgoth, we recommend using the Solo Team. It won’t be the fastest of runs, but it is incredibly safe. You should 100% fit out your urost as he will be able to farm this in sub 10-15 turns at high levels of doom tower Hard.

Since it’s not mentioned above, Bloodshieldrings are totally OP on this boss.
Apparently the effect of the ring gets resolved before the passive ability of the boss.
Therefore the shield from the ring is already there when the Passive checks for shields.
If your whole team is wearing a Bloodshieldring the boss will never counterattack through his passive.
As a fairly new player (less than 90 days in) I just couldn’t make the above work,
since I simply don’t have enough turn meter control to deny the boss taking a turn.
So when the boss breaks shields the run usually fails (even with 3 shield champs (I did try a lot of things))
And I’m talking about Normal Level 30.
Luckily I have enough rings (asked google if they would work) and even mostly for the right factions so I could bring at least 4 champs I use fairly regularly (Doompriest, Ursala, Fahrakin, Skathix)
MVP went to a freshly 50 Coldheart with hastily thrown together gear (destroy set but doesn’t even have 10k Power so not build at all)
The rings made the boss a total cakewalk.
DUDE!….this is gold! I had such issues with this boss….realized with some easy moving of rings I could put in a great team and this made it so smooth. He barely touched me
Thanks SOOOO much. I was stuck on Hard floor 30 until I read this. Just threw on bloodshield accessories on my TM control champs and easy as pie…DONE! Thanks again!! Lifesaver!
DUDE! I used this advise, put a bloodshield ring on my Magnar and he soloed the boss at stage 50!! You’re the best, thanks!
Legend! glad it helped!
have you tried vergis
There is some great info posted here. Thank you for this page. I wanted to provide some suggestions though. I did not see anything about Blood Shield accessories, and I feel like this is a grave oversight. Being that running the right champs in Blood Shield accessories can be a huge benefit to many players. Likewise, there are a few champs that I feel have been under-rated for this boss. For example, Visix is not mentioned and I feel like she should be. Visix has a pretty awesome a1, which allows her to decrease the enemy turn meter by 15% on each of the two hits. For a total of 30% tm reduction. Putting Visix in a destroy set, with blood shield accessories is an incredible strategy. Just having her use her a1 over and over is amazing. Visix also has an a2 which has 30% decrease speed debuff. This places her in a prime position to slow Borgoth down, decrease his TM by 30% each turn, destroy the boss’ Max HP, as well as self shield every turn. A very potent mix. Ran her on DT Hard, floor 100 and crushed it. Not to mention, this is a free guaranteed champion.
Visix also has a TM boost on her A1, which can be problematic, as it can make her outrun the shield buff.
My Miscreated Monster at 60 in shieldset kept it up for 12 mins to take down this boss alone ,)
I was struggling but found Valkyrie to be massive asset runnign alongside my Miscreated Monster. They kept the shield up the entire time and the fight was not too bad at 6 minutes. Between the two of them and some turn meter control no issues at all with Counterattacks.
Skull-lord Varr Gall has become an MVP for this boss since his buff, he breaks the shield super fast. If you then just can make him survive the boss, he could maybe solo it!
Does anybody know what stats a Vergis needs to solo Normal DT Scarab? I would know to know, currently stuck at scarab at both floor 30 normal and floor 20 depending on rotation. I get to about floor 60 something until the waves beat me at rot 2, because Scarab isn’t in that rotation. Please share your knowlege about Vergis if you know!
For the spirit version, alures in bloodshield accessories trivialize the boss. If you have 2 that is preferable, get them to high speed, 100% crit rate and high accuracy and bring anyone in a destroy set and you will win every time. If you dont have 2 alures, one alure and visix works as well, and you can play with whoever you have for turn meter control, but 2x alure is insane on spirit scarab. Force scarab on floor 100 of hard DT is where I started having an issue with this comp. I tried 2 alure and visix and having one alure in affinity breaker and I still cant keep the turn meter low enough to chip before champs start falling. If anyone can get turn meter control working on the final level Hard force scarab I would be interested to hear how you made it work.
stats for vergis in destroy/immortal for dt 60 hard
hp 53k
def 26k
speed 220
resist 280
Bit behind the ball on this, but Jizoh can solo this, at least on normal.
I have mine in Resilience and Immortal gear and with a bloodshield ring on (I had one for him and for a dwarf). My Jizoh has no masteries and zero books. Hope this helps.
I’m thinking if I put him in destroy gear, it might even go faster. It’s very slow going for me.
I just tried the fairly recent fusion champion from the High Elves; Lonatharil, he puts a shield on the lowest HP team member while decreasing target max HP by 30% on A1. The A2 is a attack all, shield all for 3 turns @20% or 3 turns for 30% if any team members are dead, this shield can’t be removed or stolen, etc. A3 is 30% Crit Damage all all then team up with all to attack. The passive is a 20% damage increase on targets under shields and the aura is 35% HP in Doom Tower. Every one of these moves is seemingly designed to beat Borgoth.
I ran him against the stage 100 Normal Borgoth in a broken set at level 50 unbooked and no masteries with no accuracy, low crit, and high resist and HP, no problem. Paired up with Scyl and a 50 unbooked Tayrel in Destroy Gear and a Bloodshield ring.
Another option for very slowly soloing this is Orn, at least the lower normal rooms. Mine is at 65K health and 193 resist in a regeneration/speed set, though I don’t think the speed is very important. The rest of the team drops dead fairly quickly, and then Orn just keeps the boss poisoned.
Thanks for that tip with orn .My orn is at 44k hp ,100 res ,250 acc in a bolster set
Scyl of the Drakes+Duchess Lilitu. Turn of Duchess’s revive because of the continious heal so the boss doesn’t steal the buff and heals himself, Duchess on her A1 casts shield on her and a champion with the lowest HP wich is Scyl. Whenever Scyl gets a turn she heals both of them, whenever Duchess takes a turn she casts new shield on both of them. Just build both with a lot of HP and Def, and it is 100% win rate.
Lugan is immense against the Scarab, he can go solo once you get to the boss.
Doom Tower Hard – Shield Strat – I use Brogni (the magic of continuous, unremovable shields,) and a buff extender, currently Sand-lashed Survivor. In the MVP list, Brogni should be the mvp of mvp’s for having an unremovable shield.)
If you have Brogni, I’d guarantee this is a faster strat than what you are doing.
For the record, the other spots are a speed lead and 2 dps, currently Acrizia and Venomage (destroys health from A1) I.e., no rings, no destroy gear on anyone.
Order – Morrigaine lead, Brogni, Sand, Veno, Acrizia. Currently the speed lead is a little too fast but still 5/6 wins on auto.
If using Acrizia, turn A2 off, turn off Brogni A3 in wave 2
