Shadowflame Hoyan Boss Guide

Shadowflame Hoyan is the penultimate boss you will face in Etheria: Restart’s Grim Pursuit, a content area specifically focused on farming Shells to enhance your Animus Builds.

Shadowflame Hoyan’s Element is Disorder, meaning you will want to avoid bringing weak elements (Constant) to this encounter to increase your chances of success.

You can fight Shadowflame Hoyan on Nightmare, Hell and Inferno difficulty with the reward quality increasing for the higher difficulty.

The sixth executor of R.C.S., a terrifying execution machine, Flare Hunter is a fully enhanced combat form of Hoyan, the Animus.

In this guide, we will break down Shadowflame Hoyan’s Skills, how to face this encounter, as well as some of the Animus used for defeating Shadowflame Hoyan.

Possible Rewards

Shadowflame Hoyan Skills

Agonizing Hit

It’s the time to give execution. Hoyan deals 400% damage to a single enemy and then gains 3 stack(s) of [Vengeful].

Corrode

From here, the sin is reborn; Hoyan deals 450% damage to all enemies, inflicting 1 stack(s) of [Corruption] on them, with a 60% chance to inflict a 1-turn [Silence]. This skill cannot be cast actively.

[Corruption] – Each stack decreases DEF by 12%.

How to beat Shadowflame Hoyan

Shadowflame Hoyan is a late-game boss designed to test your control, damage rotation, and team synergy. As a Disorder-element boss, most units won’t have a significant elemental advantage or disadvantage, though players should be cautious bringing Constant-type units like Dorothy, as they’ll take increased damage. Hoyan is supported by two Durands, whose synergy with her kit makes them just as dangerous as the boss herself. To succeed in this fight, you’ll need consistent crowd control, debuff uptime, and a stable balance between survivability and damage.

Hoyan only has two skills, but they interact in punishing ways. Her Skill 1, Agonizing Hit, deals heavy single-target damage and gives her 3 stacks of [Vengeful]. At 7 stacks, she instantly casts [Corrode], an unpreventable AoE that deals 450% damage, applies [Corruption], and has a 40% chance to [Silence] your units. The only way to prevent her from cycling into this is to manage turn control—and that includes disabling the Durands, who both share damage, apply [Evil Fire] to Hoyan (accelerating her [Corrode] rate), and counterattack when not controlled.

That’s where Kraken shines. Despite his recent nerf, his Skill 3 [Freeze] remains top-tier for this encounter, locking down the Durands and stopping them from applying [Wound], [Evil Fire], and counterattacks. Pair him with [SPD-] if possible, but don’t force it—prioritize your fundamentals: [ATK-] and [DEF-] are essential. RC-77 remains the gold standard here, covering both in a single kit while offering Turn Meter control and utility. Kloss, Gray, or even Rin can fill the [DEF-] role, while Helkid brings [ATK-] and shielding support.

From there, fill in with a healer or utility support and your DPS of choice. Lingluo, Mia, and Chiaki the Echo offer reliable healing or prep boost, while Freya stands out for her unique blend of Lifesteal, damage amplification, and team Turn Meter support—she’s a top-tier pick for this fight. For DPS, Lian offers consistent AoE, Rilmocha provides strong single-target options, and Rosa is excellent if you’re far enough in the game to build around her. And, as with most Etheria Restart bosses, [DoT] teams remain viable, especially when paired with strong control and survivability.
