Most guides recommend top-tier legendaries and elite gear setups, but there’s a rare, budget-friendly champion that can get the job done solo—Templar. With his ability to block damage and a smart build, Templar becomes a powerful answer to one of the game’s hardest bosses.
How Templar Counters Bommal
Templar’s value lies in his Block Damage skill, which allows him to completely ignore Bommal’s bombs when timed correctly. Built in Regeneration and Immortal gear, he stays alive through passive healing and carefully times his skill rotation. In fact, it’s better to leave his A2 unbooked so it doesn’t throw off the rotation. His simplicity and survivability make him perfect for early and mid-game accounts that can’t afford heavy investment.
Building Templar for Survival
To make this strategy work, focus on high HP and Defense, a moderate Speed of around 169 (adjusted for masteries), and zero Accuracy. The lack of Accuracy ensures his A1 won’t land Decrease Speed, which can disrupt the boss’s timing. Masteries are critical—Warmaster provides sustained damage, while Spirit Haste and Whirlwind of Death give Templar bonus Speed as allies die and enemies fall, making him faster as the fight progresses.
Setting Up the Fight
The battle strategy is simple: bring Templar and a few disposable champions. Let him pick up kills in the wave stages to activate his speed-boosting masteries. On the boss floor, the rest of the team should die quickly, leaving Templar to solo Bommal. He uses A1 until just before bombs go off, then casts Block Damage, absorbs the hit, and resets the cycle. It’s not fast—expect 10–20 minutes—but it’s extremely reliable, even on Hard 10.
