Lamassu Information
Throughout their long experience, especially since encountering the Void, the Dark Elves of Ekurion and Dulur have lost much of their history and culture, and no place contained more of it than the lost Cathedral of Learning. Before the fall of the High City, the Digir had secured their knowledge in the fortress-like bibliotheca, defended by gargoyles animated by the souls of those interred in the Necropolis. Through their dark technics, the ancient Seelkraft Meisters allowed the gargoyles will limited strictly to protecting what lay within the silent halls. Sadly, the Cathedral eventually fell to the Void, its knowledge and the gargoyles’ sole animating purpose lost with it.
Some gargoyles were destroyed defending the Cathedral and some, with nothing to protect, reverted to inert stone. Others, however, were Consumed by the Void, and these lost not their vitality but only the limitations their makers placed upon their will. One particular gargoyle ripped itself from the stone pediment on which it had been intended to spend eternity and now roams the northern regions of the Archlands, spreading Void corruption in its wake like a pestilent wind.
Some remnant of the creature’s original guardian consciousness remains, though, for it often appears when weaker Consumed are under attack. Some who are aware of the strange, dark champion believe it has come to think of the Void as in need of its protection. Few have offered alternative theories, but many have raised the question: what might become of it if ever Reclaimed from the Void? Would it become inanimate statuary once more, like so many of its fellows? Or would it transfer its protective nature onto those that resist the Void? In the event, the Hunters who finally freed Vigilus from the Void found themselves the beneficiaries of its guardian consciousness.
