Tiche was a dancing prodigy at Crown City’s most prestigious academy until she was seen by Sir Lucelle, famed swordmaster and last of the storied Aurelian Knights. The old knight donated funds for construction of a new wing of the academy and the schoolmasters gratefully signed Tiche’s apprenticeship over to him. Lucelle’s creed was based not on faith, like Order knights, but on commitment to a personal code. Tiche dutifully learned all that he could teach her of honor, chivalry, and swordplay, at which she excelled even beyond Lucelle’s expectations.

Her training was grueling, at times punishing. Tiche was forced to spar blindfolded to sharpen her focus and heighten her other senses. Tiche was a genius for mixing styles and even creating new ones. Lucelle resisted these tendencies, whether from dogmatic adherence to tradition or fear she would surpass him.

Tension between them grew until he decided to “demonstrate” his style’s superiority and the importance of obedience. Tiche tried to calm him but instead had to fight for her life while unbridled rage overcame her master. He attacked, and Tiche saw the Void’s long-metastasizing influence manifest in his eyes.

Lucelle pushed Tiche to her limit but, when she began to falter, his mind cleared. His hand hesitated so briefly no one else would have noticed, but in that hairsbreadth Tiche delivered a swift thrust through his heart—even as her own broke forever.

Now a living legend, Tiche always blindfolds herself in battle for, when she saw the Taint in her master’s eyes, she surmised they must be the portals through which the Void infects the mind. Standing above his body, she pledged to always pursue mental as well as martial perfection; to honor but also to surpass the legacy of her master. As a Hunter, she adheres to that pledge every day.
