Who Should Be Your Next 6 Star in Raid: Shadow Legends?

One of the most frequently asked questions in the Raid community is, “Who should I 6 star next?” Today, we’ll walk you through the decision making process, especially from a progression standpoint, where you may not yet have a fully developed roster.

With the constant cycle of fusion events requiring champion training and the vast range of content to tackle, it’s crucial to rank up champions that bring unique effects for different encounters. Rather than investing in champions who fill roles already covered, focusing on versatility and synergy will help your account development.

Who Should You 6 Star First?

Your first 6 star champion can vary depending on when you start playing. Raid occasionally releases free daily login Legendary champions, like Alice, who is more than capable of helping you power through campaign stages, Arena, and more. However, if you reach the point where you’re ready to 6 star your first champion way before completing the 7 day login program, you’ll likely want to decide between your Rare starter champion, a champion you’ve pulled, or a Promo/Link code option you chose at the start of your journey.

The key is to select a champion that can efficiently clear campaign stages, as farming 12-3 Brutal is a crucial milestone for ranking up additional 6 star champions. All starter Rares, especially Kael, can handle this with the right build and stats. However, if you’re a player who’s pulled a stronger champion or received one through promo codes, they could be a better choice. Additionally, the newly added Apprentice Pass includes quests to upgrade your starter champion, rewarding you with valuable resources and bonuses along the way!

As an extra tip to speed up your progress, consider using Gems to purchase masteries for your first one or two 6 star champions. This allows you to farm scrolls for future champions more efficiently, as all drops will go toward the one without masteries. Unlocking Warmaster or Giant Slayer, depending on your champion, will significantly boost your damage, sustain, and overall effectiveness in various encounters.

Who Should You 6 Star Next?

It’s easy to get distracted by an upgraded version of a champion you’ve already built or one of the many champions you’ve recently pulled, but developing a well rounded roster with unique effects is crucial for long-term progression. For example, if you already have a Decrease Attack champion built and pull a slightly better option, it may be more beneficial to build a champion that fills a different role instead – such as Turn Meter reduction for Fire Knight & Dark Fae, or AOE Block Buffs for Hydra and Doom Tower. Over time, focusing on champions that cover different areas of the game will lead to a well rounded roster capable of tackling all game modes, ultimately accelerating your progress.

To illustrate this approach, let’s take a look at YST’s F2P account and the reasoning behind his first selection of 6 star champions:

Kael:

The first 6 star champion, chosen for his ability to carry through campaign stages early on while also providing value in Dungeons and Clan Boss with his Poison debuffs.

Tagoar:

A strong AoE reviver obtained through the Link code, who also brings Increase Speed and healing to help cycle turns faster across multiple game modes.

Alure:

Picked as a starter promo code champion to control the Turn Meter of bosses like Dark Fae and Fire Knight without requiring books.

Alice The Wanderer:

A powerful DPS option for Arena, waves, and bosses, with the ability to increase enemy cooldowns. The 5 star soul obtained through the Alice chase ensures a 60% chance to land a protected Brimstone debuff, boosting damage against a variety of bosses while also enhancing her overall stats.

Uugo:

Provides AOE Decrease Defence and Block Buffs. She also brings a small cleanse, heals, and a revive when she’s the last champion standing, making campaign 3 stars easier and offering clutch revives in crucial moments. Additionally, her A1 applies Leech for extra team healing.

The Mad Hatter:

Applies AOE Hex and Weaken while teaming up with the highest Crit Damage ally for an extra attack, adding two powerful debuffs not covered by other champions on the roster. He also extends buffs on a 3 turn cooldown, fills allies’ Turn Meters, and provides crowd control and healing through his passive.

Nazana:

Brings AOE Decrease Attack for both waves and bosses, along with Ally Protection for team sustainability in areas like Clan Boss. Her self shield improves survivability, and her multiple AOE attacks make her a great candidate for sets like Stun or Cursed for added utility.

By prioritizing champions that bring different effects and cover multiple aspects of the game, this approach ensures a well balanced and effective roster for long term success.

Avoid These Mistakes!

Whether it’s not choosing your next 6 star based on available Skill Tomes, spreading resources across multiple Rank 5 champions instead of focusing on farming food, or even sacrificing mid tier Epics to speed up the process, let’s go over some key mistakes to avoid on your Raid journey.

  • Sacrificing Duplicates:
It’s tempting to use average Epics as a free 4-star chicken to rush your next 6-star, but doing so can hurt your progress in areas like Secret Rooms, Faction Wars, and The Cursed City. These faction limited modes often require a wide variety of champions. Additionally, keeping duplicates can help fill out your Faction Guardians, providing permanent stat boosts to all champions in that faction.
  • Wasting Skill Tomes:
Some champions, such as Doompriest, Alure, and Vogoth, are incredibly useful even without books. While books make every champion stronger, they are a limited resource, so always check if a champion can still be effective without them. For example, Madame Serris is often used only for her A3 in Arena, meaning full booking may not be necessary. Before using your books, make sure they are going to champions who truly need them.
  • Partial Booking:
We’ve all been there – hoping books land in a specific skill for extra debuff chances, cooldown reductions, or damage boosts. If you get lucky and land the upgrades you need without maxing unnecessary skills [like an A1 that may not add much value], consider saving the rest of your books for another champion. Efficient tome management can make a huge difference in progressing faster.
  • Building Too Many Similar Champions:
While it’s fine to invest in multiple damage dealers later in the game, your first batch of champions should be well balanced. Avoid creating a roster with five Rank 6 damage dealers and no support, buffers, or debuffers. A balanced team with support, sustain, and utility will carry you much further than stacking multiple of the same type of champions.
  • Managing Arbiter Missions:
The Arbiter missions require you to build champions of all affinities, and one milestone demands you ascend a champion from each affinity to max level. Unfortunately, this isn’t retroactive, meaning you must do it when the mission unlocks. To avoid unnecessary delays, plan ahead by having champions ready, but wait to complete their final ascension until you reach the mission.
  • Avoiding the “Multiple 5 Stars” Trap:
A common early-game mistake is taking too many champions to Rank 5 instead of focusing on creating more Rank 6 champions. Prioritize farming food champions so you can fully unlock masteries and stats for your key champions at Rank 6 rather than stalling at Rank 5’s.
  • Using Clan vs Clan to Your Advantage:
Investing resources like Skill Tomes, rank ups, and upgrades during Clan vs Clan (CVC) events can significantly boost your score. Being in an active clan that unlocks the final reward tier provides extra books, energy, chickens, and shards—all of which make ranking up champions much easier. This applies to other content like Doom Tower, where these resources can accelerate your account.

What Areas Should I Be Focusing On?

Clan-Boss

The simple answer would be… everywhere! And to some extent, that’s true – your milestone missions for Arbiter will naturally guide you through all game modes. However, in the early game, there are a few key areas that should take priority when building champions, as they provide valuable free rewards. Focusing on these areas will also help optimize your roster for other content such as Dungeons. The best part? These modes don’t require energy but still offer great rewards to push your account further:

  • Clan Boss:
Arguably the most important area to focus on. Reaching the Ultra Nightmare top chest daily unlocks vital resources such as shards, skill tomes, high quality gear, and gems. Since Clan Boss battles only require keys, you can conserve your energy for other areas.
  • Doom Tower:
Climbing through the floors offers great rewards on both Normal and Hard difficulties. Even on Normal, you can earn Void shards, gems, skill tomes, and energy to fuel further farming. As your account grows, Secret Rooms become valuable for farming fragments to unlock Epic and Legendary champions.
  • Chimera:
While it may seem like a daunting challenge for early-game accounts, Normal and Easy difficulties are very achievable within your first few months. Getting the top chests here provides Clan Gold for the Clan Shop, Relic resources, Clan XP, and even Mythical champion fragments.
  • Hydra:
One of the hardest bosses to prepare for early on, but investing in champions that counter its mechanics can yield great rewards. These include Clan Gold, Mortal Soulstones, powerful gear, and progress toward Mithrala, one of the best free Legendary champions in the game.
  • Arena:
Developing Great Hall bonuses is crucial for the Arbiter missions and significantly boosts your champions’ stats across all content. Live Arena also provides area bonuses and valuable rewards, while Tag Team Arena allows you to spend bars in the Bazaar for additional resources.
  • Faction Wars:
Naturally progresses as your roster expands, but actively pushing it offers milestone rewards and the ultimate prize, Lydia the Deathsiren. Additionally, daily Glyphs and Forge materials help improve gear quality, making this a worthwhile investment.

Aside from these priorities, regularly farming Campaign stages is key to ranking up more 6 star champions. Minotaur’s Labyrinth is essential for unlocking masteries across your roster, while Dungeons provide the gear, gear & affinity ascension potions, and soulstone resources. To maximize efficiency, try to align your farming with events and tournaments – especially during fusion events – so you can double dip and earn extra rewards while progressing.
