When it comes to finding all the pieces of the puzzle for creating a great hydra team, exploring synergies between champions is just as important as finding someone that checks multiple boxes. Sometimes, those boxes are only checked when paired with the right champion(s). Let’s explore options for one of the most unique epics in the game for hydra: Geomancer.

Geomancer has continued to rise in value as new content is released. The biggest key to his success as a damage dealer is his passive. It decreases the damage all allies receive by 15% and deflects that damage onto each enemy under a HP Burn debuff placed by this champion. Whenever he is attacked, 30% of damage is deflected instead. When deflecting damage, has a 30% chance of dealing additional damage equal to 3% of the target’s MAX HP. This skill is particularly strong when the Head of Wrath is around. The big slams from Wrath help to add a lot of damage. He Places HP Burn and Weaken debuffs with his A3, the skill that enables the Passive. Plus the “place” versus an “attack” makes it easy to handle Poison Clouds from the Head of Blight.

Inquisitor Shamael shines when the Head of Torment is out. His passive makes it great to pair with Geomancer, having Geomancer in the lead to get boosted. The passive reads Whenever an ally receives a Fear or a True Fear debuff, this skill will instantly remove the debuff and fill the ally’s Turn Meter by 15% but how it actually works in hydra is whoever is in the lead gets the Turn Meter boost. Geomancer has an AoE A1, so being boosted more often means more chances for Warmaster procs on all of the heads. It also helps him to cycle back to his very important A3 more often, keeping HP burn on all heads by himself easily.

It makes the most sense to mention these 3 champions together. All of these champions have a Decrease SPD debuff as an AoE and an Increase SPD buff for all allies. Nekmo Thaa, Krisk the Ageless or Lady Kimi all make great pairs with Geomancer and to be part of any roster because of this strong value of both skills on one champion that help all allies to go more often. Of course, there is no need to have more than one in a team composition.

For this combination, the main strength is in Soulless’ A3 paired with the debuffs placed by Geomancer. On his A3, he attacks all enemies and increases the duration of all debuffs on the target by 1 then places a Provoke debuff on all enemies for 1 turn. He places a Shield buff on himself for 2 turns equal to 30% of damage dealt. The damage increases by 10% for each debuff on the target. Extended the HP Burn helps to keep it up on all of the heads easily, along with Geo’s Weaken and Decrease ACC debuffs. Soulless also brings another skill with Provoke to deal with the Head of Decay and overall does great physical damage.

While Geomancer makes a great part of most every Hydra team comp, there are a few notes on who you should actually avoid pairing him with. A champion like Tuhanarak with Debuff Spread effects is not ideal. If you spread his HP Burn, it does not count for his passive. Same thing could be said for other HP Burn champions.  It can be hard to keep track of which ones Geomancer actually placed himself. It’s best not to add confusion to the mix for which heads you want to have Geo’s burn on to make the Passive work as intended.
