Marius the Gallant: RAID’s Most Complete Champion?

RAID: Shadow Legends continues to evolve with new champions, systems, and endgame challenges, but few releases have been as impactful as Marius the Gallant. After fully investing in this powerhouse — including securing his six-star Legendary Soul — it’s clear that Marius has transcended even the highest expectations. He’s not just good. He may be the most complete, versatile, and valuable champion in the entire game.

Here’s a deep dive into why Marius is rapidly being recognized as one of RAID’s greatest all-around champions — from dungeons to Hydra, Chimera, and Arena.

A Champion for Every Occasion

Free Void Legendary

Marius’s strength lies in his unmatched flexibility. There is no other champion in the game right now who excels in so many roles and content areas. He’s become a fixture in almost every team configuration.

He’s a nightmare campaign farmer. He solos Potion Keeps and Spider 10 Hard. He clears Doom Tower waves and contributes massively in Hydra and Chimera. He fits into Fire Knight, Dragon, Sand Devil — you name it, he’s there. He’s even a first-pick in high-end Live Arena drafts.
Why? Because Marius brings a toolkit that blends both brute force and intelligent design:

  • AoE enemy Max HP attacks
  • Self-buffing with increased defense and accuracy
  • A passive that prevents Turn Meter reduction
  • An A1 with built-in Weaken
  • And a high-impact six-star Blessing: Crushing Rend

Put simply, he does everything you want from a carry, and then some.

Unlocking His True Potential

The leap in performance comes when Marius is paired with the Cat’s Gaze Relic and a top-tier Soul. Crushing Rend unlocks serious Ignore Defense synergy — and when combined with the multi-hit mechanics in his A2, the results are devastating.

Cat’s Gaze alone brings a flat bonus to Ignore Defense, making even high-resistance enemies vulnerable. With the right gemstone setup (Piercing Strike, Dungeon Diver, and Rolling Thunder, for example), Marius scales even further in PvE content like Chimera and Hydra.

The only caveat? In Chimera specifically, any multiplicative damage bonuses from gemstones or blessings don’t apply to Max HP skills. Still, even without those bonuses, Marius’s raw damage potential puts him at the top of the DPS chart.

Building the Monster

There are two optimal gear routes for Marius:

  • 9-Piece Merciless for maximizing Ignore Defense procs and multi-turn burst
9-Piece Slayer, which shines in Hydra, multi-target fights, and content where Turn Meter generation and sustained output are key

Slayer also adds value through its 4-piece bonus, granting 20% Turn Meter on AoE hits. This is especially noticeable in Hydra, Spider, and long boss encounters. Mastery-wise, Marius benefits from Helm Smasher and, for Arena, Sniper and Master Hexer to increase Weaken uptime.

A fully built Marius in this setup can reach:

  • 326+ Speed
  • 385%+ Crit Damage (without crit damage gloves!)
  • 4.6K+ Defense
  • 63K HP

With crit damage gloves and further optimization, that number can rise well above 450%.

Dominating Dungeons

Marius doesn’t just participate in dungeon runs — he defines them.

In Spider 10 Hard, he solos the boss in 5-6 turns. He’s able to clear Sand Devil reliably, even without sleeping the boss, and his performance in Fire Knight Hard is borderline absurd — he wipes waves in 10 seconds and contributes massively to quick boss takedowns.

His raw wave-clearing speed turns even content like Dragon 10 Hard into a joke — though poison mechanics can limit his solo viability here, pairing him with a support like Ruarc fixes the issue.

The only dungeon where Marius hasn’t found a reliable foothold yet is Ice Golem. However, with the right pairing (such as Fyna), that may soon change.

The Arena Meta Shifter

Marius has reshaped how high-end Arena is played. With his six-star Soul and fully optimized setup, he has become a perma-ban in Live Arena drafts. His ability to ignore defense, counter Turn Meter manipulation, and dish out enormous burst damage makes him a threat most players simply won’t risk facing.

Even when left unbanned, his mere presence forces opponents to adjust their picks and target bans, giving players a huge psychological and tactical advantage.

Pair him with Lamasu and Supersonic gear, and you’re looking at an incredibly consistent team core. Lamasu resets cooldowns, provides immunity, cleanses, and cannot be polymorphed — the perfect support for unleashing Marius’s full burst damage cycle.

The Endgame: Hydra and Chimera

Where Marius truly becomes a monster is in Hydra and Chimera content.

In Hydra, he’s capable of contributing 300–400 million damage on his own. With Slayer gear, he generates 20% Turn Meter on AoE, cycles through abilities faster, and hits like a truck — even without full Ignore Defense.

In Chimera, particularly in Ram Form, Marius’s power is unmatched. With block damage protection from champions like Fyna, he can fulfill even the most difficult damage-dealing trials, often hitting 1.6 million+ per A2 rotation. His ability to cycle A2 into A3, then back into A2 with multiple cooldown resets allows him to chain immense damage output within just a few turns.

It’s no surprise that well-optimized teams featuring Marius regularly exceed 350 million+ damage on Ultra Nightmare, collecting 8 billion Clash Points weekly. This consistency is vital for farming the real prize of Chimera — the mythical gemstones.

Gemstones: The Real Power Spike

Marius’s full potential comes to life with the right gemstone setup. Some of the most powerful for him include:

  • Piercing Strike: More Ignore Defense after a kill
  • Rolling Force: Scales damage with consecutive hits
  • Dungeon Diver and Boss Slayer: Raw multipliers for PvE

These unlock the true ceiling of Marius’s damage. With the right gemstones in place, even other top-tier champions like Ninja or Toshiro struggle to keep up.

Final Thoughts

It’s rare that a champion changes the way an entire community looks at game content — but Marius has done just that. Whether it’s shaving minutes off dungeon runs, trivializing difficult Hydra heads, or completely warping Arena bans, he’s carved a place as RAID’s most complete champion.

He’s not the easiest to acquire. He’s not cheap to build. And he requires significant investment in gear, Relics, and Souls. But for those willing to commit, he offers unmatched returns.

If you haven’t yet started the grind toward unlocking Marius the Gallant, now might be the time. And if you’ve already secured him, it’s time to build, optimize, and unleash the best champion RAID has to offer.
