Void Hunters: Clear the Campaign with Just 5 Heroes?

Some comments I often find on my other Void Hunters videos are along the lines of “How do you have so many 5 stars?” But the truth is, it didn’t start like that. So I decided to strip back the roster to the absolute essentials and tried to conquer the entire Void Hunters campaign with just five non-legendary heroes.  No stacked legendary roster. Just smart choices and efficient progression.

It sounds like a challenge run, but it is actually the most effective ways to play early Void Hunters. By narrowing your focus, you accelerate each units your power curve and avoid wasting valuable resources. So, can it be done?

Yes. And here is exactly how.

Why Focusing on 5 Heroes Is the Smartest Strategy

Only 5 heroes built

Early progression is where most players make their biggest mistakes. Spreading resources across too many heroes slows everything down. You end up with a roster full of average units instead of a team of strong ones.

By committing to just five heroes, you not only maximise resource efficiency but you also power up faster and build a reliable team for campaign progression.

It is not about limiting yourself. It is about building a foundation that carries you through the hardest early content and not getting distracted by the “Ooooo Shiny!”

The 5 Heroes That Carried the Campaign

So if I could only pick 5, which would they be? Well, the full campaign clear was achieved using:

  • Jagya
  • Nathaniel
  • Lysadorea
  • Nadia
  • Leo

This is not just a random selection. It is a balanced team covering all essential roles. Damage, sustain, tank, and utility. Two of these are starter heroes. One is a rare. That alone shows how accessible this strategy is.

Jagya and Nathaniel: The Epic Powerhouses

Nathaniel skill 2

There is not a single unit that I consider to be the “backbone” to this team, but its hard to ignore the value you get from Jagya and Nathaniel.

Jagya is the main damage dealer. She carries fights through damage output alone but with the added benefits of her Snares and Brighteyes. Investing heavily into her pays off immediately and continues to scale as you progress.

Nathaniel, on the other hand, brings something equally valuable. Its not sustain like a traditional support would bring but Bless and Debuff Immunity. In tougher fights, especially boss encounters, these become essential for survival.

Together, they help shape the core of the team.

Lysadorea and Nadia: Survival and Stability

You cannot clear campaign content without sustain, and arguably there is no one better than Lysadorea.

She is one of the best early healers available. The healing and regeneration alone make her incredibly reliable even as a rare unit. But if you can get those 2 red stars she also brings a cleanse too which is fantastic. She keeps your team alive when fights drag on.

Nadia complements her perfectly as the team’s tank. With taunts and shields, she controls enemy aggression and protects your backline.

This pairing gives your team the stability it needs to survive even the toughest encounters.

Leo: My Flex Spot

Leo flex spot

Leo is not the obvious choice for most and is probably the most replaceable for me. But he plays a crucial role in the Hermeida fight.

His hunted debuff comes in so clutch here. It allows you to ignore the annoying Lamassu and Hermeida qucikly and efficiently. However, if you have buff removal like Vilk, this can also fill this spot. But I wanted to do with as many rares as possible so here we are.

On top of that, he benefits from synergy with other starter heroes which is always nice, making him a strong utility pick. Sometimes, the difference between winning and losing is bringing the right mechanic.

Clearing the Campaign with 5 Heroes

So how did it actually play out?

Well I did manage to fully clear the campaign using only these five heroes. Not perfectly three-starred, but completed. And that is the goal first time around.

Its important to remember that one-starring stages is completely fine early on. We can come back for the others next lap around. Also some of the harder stuff can be done by simply improving levels and your gear. So focusing your resources on a couple of strong units is better than a roster full of level 30s.

What If You Do Not Have These Heroes?

Not everyone will pull Jagya or Nathaniel early, and that is fine. You can of course increase your chances with the wish list in the summons but assuming that doesnt help, you can adapt. Replace Jagya with another strong DPS like Angelo (hes who I used first time out). Lilith can cleanse for you if you lack Nathaniel for the debuff immunity. And obviously the flex spot is, well, flexible.

The structure matters more than the exact heroes, as long as the main bases are covered (even if one hero covers multiple) you are fine:

  • One carry
  • One support
  • One healer
  • One tank
  • One flex slot

Stick to that formula and you will still succeed.

Closing Thoughts: Build Smart, Progress Faster

This “challenge” highlights one of the most important lessons in Void Hunters Alpha specifically. Less is more. Particularly considering how stretched resources are in an early alpha environment.

By focusing on just five heroes, you create a powerful, efficient team capable of clearing the entire campaign. From there, you can expand your roster, farm gear, and return to perfect earlier stages.

If you are struggling with progression, simplify your approach. Pick your core five and commit to them.

If you could only pick 5 units, which would they be? Different to mine or the same? Let me know in the comments!
