Why Deacon Armstrong is so strong in Raid: Shadow Legends

Deacon Armstrong is widely known to be an incredible Champion and has been even more in the spotlight over the last week due to the HH Gaming F2P series that is currently running, the reason for this is he is available as a starter Champion, by entering the New Player Promo-code: SUPERPOWERS

He is a Spirit affinity epic from the Sacred Order faction. Deacon Armstrong was added to Raid in January 2021 and was a great addition to the Sacred Order faction.

A few of our challengers were lucky enough to land Deacon when the wheel was spun (Myself included), and YST even pulled himself a copy despite not starting with him!

But who is Deacon, and why is he SO strong? Let’s take a look.

Deacon’s Skills

Mace of Contempt [ATK] Attacks 1 enemy 2 times. Each hit has a 30% chance of placing a (Leech) debuff for 2 turns.

• Level 2: Damage +5%
• Level 3: Buff/Debuff Chance +5%
• Level 4: Damage +5%
• Level 5: Buff/Debuff Chance +5%
• Level : Damage +10%
• Level 7: Buff/Debuff Chance +10%

Sweeping Retribution [ATK] – 4 Turn Cooldown
Attacks all enemies. Has a 80% chance of placing a 60% (Decrease DEF) debuff for 2 turns

• Level 2: Damage +5%
• Level 3: Buff/Debuff Chance +5%
• Level 4: Damage +10%
• Level 5: Buff/Debuff Chance +15%
• Level 6: Cooldown -1

Time Compression – 5 Turn Cooldown
Basic: Fills the Turn Meters of all allies by 15% and decreases the Turn Meters of all enemies by 15%
Ascended: Fills the Turn Meters of all allies by 15% and decreases the Turn Meters of all enemies by 15%. Grants an Extra Turn

• Level 2: Cooldown -1
• Level 3: Cooldown -1

Aura
Increases Ally SPD in all Battles by 19%

Why is he so good?

Deacon is not just good, he’s amazing, whether it be in the arena, dungeons or Clan Boss teams, he has it all, without his extra turn however, he would only be ‘good’, the fact that he can frequently boost your teams turn meter whilst reducing the enemies, and also providing Decrease DEF in the same turn is crazy, as he fills two roles in many teams, whilst only taking one champion slot.

Alongside this, Deacons A1 providing Leech allows you to gain additional survivability, especially in Clan Boss and Dungeons, where damage from masteries such as Giant Slayer and Warmaster can result in a full-heal!

The icing on the cake is the Speed Aura in all battles that Deacon provides, which is a godsend when it comes to speed-tuned Clan Boss teams to reduce the amount of gear required, allowing you to focus on other stats, and also for Arena (especially before you have Arbiter) he can make a massive difference, considering you can get him on DAY ONE!

Where do you use Deacon?

To put it very simply, Deacon can be used EVERYWHERE, and I don’t say that lightly, he shines in so many areas of the game, and he is never going to be a Champion you’d regret investing in.
