Hydra Game Changers – Here’s Who They Picked!

The best champions for Hydra can vary based on a player’s roster, team composition, and personal preference. Recently, Nub Raids and YST teamed up to share their Top 5 favourite Hydra champions, drawn from their own in game experiences. Rather than focusing solely on the absolute best champions – though some certainly are – they highlighted those that made the biggest impact on their accounts in 2024 and brought them the most enjoyment. In this article, we’ll explore the Hydra game changers they discussed, highlighting how these champions have excelled in their teams. They selected one Mythical, three Legendaries, and one Epic, plus a bonus pick chosen specifically for this article!

NUB RAIDS CHAMPION PICKS!

TRUNDA

It’s no surprise that Trunda has risen to the top with her incredible damage potential against the Hydra, excelling in both reset and traditional teams. While her A2 states that it deals 60% of the initial damage to all other enemies, it actually multiplies several factors – such as her base damage, masteries, Crit Damage, book bonuses, and the decapitation bonus – resulting to insane numbers. In her current state, Trunda has significantly boosted my Hydra Clash points and has become my go to champion for this boss.

UUGO

For my Epic choice, I have to pick Uugo, who’s a staple of many Hydra teams. She brings incredible utility to this fight, offering AOE Decrease Defence and Block Buffs, a heal and cleanse with her A3, and Leech on her A1 for extra healing. The Block Buffs is essential for preventing the Hydra heads from placing buffs, while Decrease Defence will increase your teams damage output. Uugo is a straightforward yet highly effective champion for any player needing these critical effects.

RAZELVARG

Whenever I think of a Hydra damage dealer, Razelvarg is always one of the first that comes to mind. His Increase Speed and Accuracy buffs are perfect for cycling turns and lowering the Accuracy requirements for my team, while Leech helps keep everyone healed during the fight. What really sets him apart, though, is his damage potential. He can stack up to 100 Speed with each Increase Speed buff he places, and since his damage scales with Speed, he becomes a powerhouse over time. Add in his Speed Aura that boosts the entire team, and Razelvarg is an all around fantastic choice.

ANDROC THE GLORIOUS

Androc Portrait

For my Mythical champion choice, I’ve chosen Androc as my favourite for Hydra. I focus solely on his base form, and with a 9 piece Protection set, he significantly boosts my team’s damage. This comes down to the buffs he applies with his A3, including Increase Resistance, Strengthen, and Continuous Heals – key effects that lower the Resistance requirements for my champions and keep them sustained throughout the battle. Additionally, his A1 provides Increase Defence to all allies, and his A2 extends the duration of buffs and heals allies by 4% for each buff increased. His passive’s Turn Meter boost helps cycle my team’s turns, granting a 5% increase to allies when they land critical hits.

EOSTRID DREAMSONG

Eostrid Dreamsong Picture Profile

Many players were skeptical of Eostrid when she was released as a fusion champion, but she’s proven to be an incredible asset for Hydra battles. Eostrid’s kit offers lots of utility, including Decrease Speed to slow down the Hydra heads and Weaken to pair with Decrease Defence champions [A2]. She also provides Increase Speed, covering both key speed roles as one champion, along with Increase Attack and Turn Meter fills for your team. Her passive adds even more value, offering healing equal to half the Turn Meter allies receive, helping to sustain your team throughout the fight.

TURVOLD

For my bonus pick, I have to go with Turvold, an insane single target nuker I acquired through a guaranteed event. He’s one of the hardest hitting champions on my account, and his Void affinity makes him viable in any rotation. Turvold’s ability to self buff means I’m not reliant on other champions to set him up, and pairs perfectly with his A3, as his damage scales based on the number of buffs he has. With godlike multipliers on both of his double hitting attacks, he consistently deals massive damage throughout a run, no matter which skill he uses!

YST’S CHAMPION PICKS!

FIRROL THE BARKHORN

Firrol the Barkhorn

Ever since I pulled him as my first Legendary from a Prism Shard, he has transformed my Hydra team. Firrol combines Block Buffs, Decrease Accuracy, Perfect Veil, and Increase Resistance, covering roles that would typically require several champions. This kit reduces the stats needed to place and resist effects, counters the Head of Torment, and prevents the Hydra heads from applying their own buffs. His passive adds even more value, granting allies 50 ACC and RES while boosting their damage by 20% when 4 buffs are active. My goal is to equip Firrol with a 9 piece Protection set to push this damage boost even further.

GALLEUS BLOODCREST

Galleus Bloodcrest Portrait Picture

Although Galleus is often considered average compared to other Mythicals, he’s the only one I’ve pulled from shards, and he’s had a huge impact on my Nightmare Hydra team. His value lies in his 2-turn Provoke against bosses, giving me full control over Decay, along with Unkillable and Counterattack on himself to act as a Mischief tank [A2]. His HP restoration, Revive on Death and Increase Defence ensures my team stays sustained throughout the battle. While his Enemy Max HP damage is conditional on counterattacks, it’s effective for freeing allies from digestion and dealing solid damage. I only use Galleus in his base form.

MICHINAKI

Aside from being one of my favourite looking champions in the game, Michinaki has been a key part of my Hydra team for quite some time. I’m a big fan of Hex champions who can also deal solid raw damage. His Decrease Defence and Decrease Attack abilities help boost my team’s damage output while reducing incoming hits, pairing perfectly with Eostrid Dreamsong’s Weaken. The buff removal is ideal when Mischief steals and spreads buffs or when Wrath gains Increase Attack, especially if my Block Buffs champion is the wrong affinity for a rotation. His passive, which allows him to join attacks, synergizes well with Lady Mikage for even more damage output, especially with the HP Burns!

WHISPER

Whisper Portrait v2

Whisper was a champion I initially underestimated until I heard how much Saphyrra valued her. After testing, I quickly realized her potential in boss content, particularly in Hydra. Her consistent multi-hit single target attacks are incredibly useful, whether it’s attacking decapitated heads or freeing digested champions with ease. I currently have Whisper built in a Relentless set, which complements her extra turns perfectly, especially since she already ignores 100% Defence with her A2 when the target is under Weaken.

BAMBUS FOURLEAF

When it comes to Hydra, I’ve always favoured champions who can bring multiple roles for the team, and Bambus excels at that! His A3 offers a strong combination of Decrease and Increase Accuracy effects, alongside Increase Attack, reducing the need for high stats to place and resist debuffs while boosting my nukers damage. The A2 provides a Shield and extends buff durations, keeping the team sustained, while his A1 has a chance to apply AOE Decrease Speed to slow down the Hydra Heads. I’ve built Bambus in a Cursed set to add Hex on top of his already impressive kit, making him a Hydra champ players shouldn’t overlook!

HARIMA

harima portrait

For my bonus pick, it has to be Harima, who inflicts insane damage and places great debuffs for a Hydra team. In my Nightmare team, she deals over 500 million damage throughout the run, especially now that she has a 6-star Crushing Rend blessing. Beyond the blessing, her Decrease Attack reduces incoming damage, and her Provoke serves as a reliable backup in case my main Provoker get resisted or weak hits. Her damage scaling over time is strong, due to her A2, which decreases the target’s Defence by up to 30% while increasing her own by up to 100%, making her both more powerful and tanky as the fight progresses. Harima also brings an AOE nuke with her A3 and a solid A1 that synergizes perfectly with my Ally Attackers.
