In this guide we’ll be breaking down all the key information that you need to know about this magical trickster; he is, without a doubt, a must-build champion for every account in the game.

SUN WUKONG OVERVIEW

Sun Wukong is an attack-based champion with huge potential damage, some tricky debuffs and effects, and a passive that keeps bringing him back from the dead.

With his A1, Wukong does decent damage with a 50% chance to Stun enemies without buffs, or a 75% chance to Stun enemies that do have buffs. This can be a very consistent way to lock down enemies, particularly in the arena where buffing champions are common.

His A2 is his big damaging move. This attacks one enemy, ignoring 50% defence, and then attacks all remaining enemies with any surplus damage if the target is killed. This doesn’t sound like it will do much damage, but this surplus damage can easily exceed the damage of the initial hit. Try to target the squishiest enemy to get the biggest hit possible.

His A2 is also a unique control move, since it can place a Sheep debuff for 1 turn against an enemy who survives the attack, and this debuff cannot be blocked. This means that Wukong can Sheep enemies protected by Stoneskin or Block Debuffs. It also will not trigger the Polymorph blessing. You do need enough accuracy to land this debuff, which means that you will have to decide whether to prioritise the damage of his A2 or the Sheep debuff when building him. This is discussed in detail in the sections down below.

His A3 is an AoE that does decent damage but nowhere near as much as his A2. This move also steals all buffs from all enemies before attacking and places Block Buffs on them for 2 turns. This is an incredibly effective move against the Hydra clan boss, and it can also change a fight in the arena completely—but watch out for champions with the Polymorph blessing who can Sheep Wukong if he tries it!

ONE OF THE BEST PASSIVES IN THE GAME

Sun Wukong has one of the best passives in the entire game: three turns after he was killed, he will be automatically revived with 100% HP and Turn Meter.

The first thing to know about this passive is that it counts all turns from all entities in a battle. This means that this triggers extremely quickly.

The second thing to know is that 100% turn meter does not mean that Wukong will instantly take a turn. The short explanation is that it is actually possible to have more than 100% turn meter due to some complicated back-end maths in how the game is coded, so building decent Speed on Sun Wukong can help him to take his turn before other champions can act.

There are currently two main ways to counter his passive if you fight him in the arena (and you often will!):

  1. Block Revive – this rare debuff can permanently prevent a champion from being revived. Only Lydia’s passive can bypass it. Queen Eva is a good champion with this debuff.
  2. Block Passive Skills – this other rare debuff will prevent Wukong’s passive from reviving himself, but he can still be revived by other champions. Ronda is a good champion with this debuff.

HOW TO BUILD SUN WUKONG FOR DAMAGE

There are two main ways to build Sun Wukong: damage or support. Damage is generally the most popular build, though support is a great option if you lack champions such as Armanz or Loki that can perform a similar role.

The key stats to look for on damage Sun Wukong are:

  1. Crit Rate to 100%
  2. Attack
  3. Crit damage
  4. Speed
  5. Accuracy

Essentially, we want to build Wukong with a lot of stats to boost his damage, but we also want decent speed and accuracy to ensure he can take his turn quickly when his passive activates and that he can sometimes steal buffs or stun enemies as well.

The best sets for a damage Sun Wukong are:

  1. Merciless
  2. Lethal
  3. Savage
  4. Zeal
  5. Cruel

Ignore defence is the most important set bonus to get for damage Sun Wukong since it stacks incredibly well with the innate ignore defence on his A2.

HOW TO BUILD SUN WUKONG FOR SUPPORT

The support build for Sun Wukong is the less popular option due to the releases of new champions such as Armanz or Loki who can do this job better. That being said, this build is a great option if you don’t own those champions or if you want to surprise your opponents in the arena.

The key stats to look for on support Sun Wukong are:

  1. Speed
  2. Accuracy

Go fast and land as many debuffs as possible; this build is simple in theory, though you need as many rolls as possible into those specific substats, and this gear is often in high demand by other champions.

The best sets for support Wukong are:

  1. Feral
  2. Pinpoint
  3. Perception
  4. Supersonic
  5. Stoneskin

We are looking for sets that boost speed and accuracy and protect him from Polymorph blessing on the enemy team. 4-piece supersonic can help you cut in against enemy speed teams, or 4-piece stoneskin can surprise enemies and help you stay alive against fast Block Revive teams.

BEST BLESSINGS FOR SUN WUKONG

An arena blessing is likely the best option for Sun Wukong, since it his strongest area, and he has many viable options here.

Polymorph is always a great pick, since Wukong will often be in the lead position of your team, will likely have good accuracy, and is often not geared in Stoneskin. This can be a nice way to discourage enemies from using the Block Passive Skills debuff against him as well.

Temporal Chains or Intimidating Presence are great options if you are looking to build a support Wukong who will cut in against enemy teams to steal their buffs or Polymorph a high priority target.

If you are looking for maximum damage in the arena, then Soul Reap is the best option.

For PvE content, Nature’s Wrath will be the best option since Wukong can quickly stack the damage bonus with his A3 debuffs. At 6 stars, Crushing Rend becomes more powerful since it then lasts for the entire fight.

BEST PLACES TO USE SUN WUKONG

There’s no question that Sun Wukong is at his best in the arena. With his passive ability which keeps bringing him back to life with full turn meter, and the power of his A2 able to wipe out an entire team in one hit, he is a constant threat. Watch out for enemy champions with Block Revive or Block Passive Skills abilities which can bring his mischievous reign of terror to an end!

Wukong can also be a brilliant champion to put into one of your Hydra teams. His damage is decent but not amazing (you cannot “kill” a Hydra head, and therefore cannot trigger the A2 splash damage which is the strongest part of Wukong’s kit) but his A3 ability really shines here, giving you a very consistent way to steal buffs and place Block Buffs on the Hydra heads—even bypassing the Poison Cloud buff.
