BREWGUARD JEROBOAM OVERVIEW
Brewguard Jeroboam is a cleanser, turn meter booster, and protector who has a unique passive and an A1 that is better than it seems.
His A1 is a double hit attack that has a 50% chance (when booked) of decreasing the cooldown of a random ally’s skill by 1 turn and boosting their turn meter by 10%. This is actually a surprisingly good A1! The reason is that the cooldown reduction can trigger off of EACH HIT, making this move twice as good as it initially appeared. It’s not quite as strong as Wight Queen Ankora, since Brewguard will be spreading the cooldown reduction around instead of focusing it on one ally, but it’s still a great move.
His A2 is a full team cleanse that heals all allies by 15% of Brewguard’s MAX HP (plus an extra 2% per debuff removed) and gives them a Shield equal to 15% of his MAX HP. This is a solid move, bringing cleansing, healing and shielding all in one. The heal and shield aren’t particularly big though, and you will still be vulnerable to debuffs being reapplied since Brewguard doesn’t bring Block Debuffs.
His A3 is a bit disappointing, increasing enemy debuffs by 1 turn, increasing ally buffs by 1 turn, and boosting ally turn meters by 20%. The big downside here is that this move has a 4 turn cooldown, which is 1 turn longer than we’d expect. Much like his A2, it’s a lot of good effects in one move, at a slightly lower power than similar champions. It’s also the only move in his kit that requires accuracy, so it might be worthwhile simply skipping accuracy and forgetting the debuff extension part of it, depending on the gear you have available.
Brewguard’s passive (hilariously named “Absolute Legend) is very strong. This makes turn meter reduction effects used against Brewguard 50% weaker, and it boosts his turn meter by 20% whenever any crowd control effects are placed on your team. This can add up to a huge amount of turn meter when fighting enemies with these effects, such as the Head of Torment in Hydra and its fears. This passive is brilliant since it lets Brewguard take turns much more often and use his cleansing A2 when your team needs it most.
His passive also has an active effect with a 2-turn cooldown, where he will boost ally turn meters by 20% when crowd control expires on them. This is best activated with his cleanse, since then it will boost all of your team at the same time; if you wait for these debuffs to expire naturally, his passive will boost the first ally but then will be on cooldown for everyone else.
HOW TO BUILD HIM
The key stats to look for on Brewguard are:
- Speed
- HP
- Resistance
- Accuracy
Speed is essential for Brewguard to make sure that he can take as many turns as possible to heal and protect your team, and it synergises very well with his passive. HP will help him survive and increase the healing and shielding of his A2. Resistance can protect him from debuffs to ensure that he will stay free from crowd control and be able to cleanse your team. Finally, accuracy is needed to extend debuffs with his A3.
The recommended sets for Brewguard for PVE are:
- Guardian
- Speed
- Bolster
- Retaliation
- Protection
Any sets which boost his ideal stats are perfectly fine, but sets which bring strong team protection effects, such as Guardian reducing your team’s damage taken, are even better. A shield set is perfect for shorter fights, such as Faction Wars, whereas a Guardian set is better for long fights. Sets that let him counterattack are also strong, since he has a very useful A1.
The recommended sets for Brewguard for PVP are:
- Stoneskin
- Bolster
- Untouchable
- Relatiation
- Speed
For PVP, Stoneskin is king, since it protects Brewguard from damage, debuffs, and turn meter reduction, ensuring that he can cleanse and shield your team if they get debuffed by a faster enemy. Untouchable does a similar job and can even be paired with a 4-piece Stoneskin to protect him from bombs. Bolster protects your team. Retaliation works well against Lockout. Speed is a viable alternative build if you want to focus on his turn meter boosting A3.
BEST BLESSINGS FOR THE BEST BREWGUARDS
There is often a Hero’s Path or Titan Event after fusions where players can earn 5-star souls for fusion champions, and this is likely the case for Brewguard as well. Be warned that these events are often more costly than the fusion itself!
For PVE content, Brewguard’s blessings are quite limited. Survival Instinct can help his cleansing, or Emergency Heal can help him stay alive. If you have enough accuracy or a 6-star blessing, Brimstone is a good option against bosses.
For PVP content, Polymorph is ideal if you have enough accuracy or a 6-star blessing. If not, then Temporal Chains or Life Harvest are great choices to help win the speed battle in arena.
WHERE TO USE HIM
Brewguard Jeroboam’s best area is for players still progressing against the Hydra Clan Boss. With his healing and shielding capabilities he can keep your team alive, and his passive is very effective since so many Hydra heads bring crowd control effects to the fight. He is particularly good when combed with Lydia and Shamael, since their constant counterattacks due to the Head of Torment’s Fears will fuel Brewguard’s passive.
Brewguard is also a decent budget option in arena for players struggling against champions like Armanz. Against Armanz in particular, he is the strong affinity and will often be weak hit be his A2. He will also be less affected by turn meter reduction and will be massively turn meter boosted by his passive thanks to the Stuns Armanz puts out. This will be very effective against Armanz on defence whose AI opens with his A2 attack if your Brewguard is protected by Stoneskin, since your Brewguard will then be able to immediately cleanse your team, turn meter boost them, and protect them with a shield.
Brewguard will also be a great general support for Faction Wars, Doom Tower, or Cursed City content. He brings a lot of generally useful buffs and effects, which will make him very generally useful. Outside of his passive, however, he doesn’t bring anything spectacularly powerful in his kit, and you might have better options already.
IS HE WORTH FUSING?
In my opinion, this is a difficult question to answer.
If you are a late game player, then Brewguard is likely of little value, since he brings many good effects at low power, and at this stage of the game you are looking for champions with specialist effects at high power instead.
If you are an early game player, then Brewguard will be much more helpful. He’s not a hard counter to Armanz, but he helps, and this might make a huge difference in Classic Arena, Tag Team Arena, or Siege–for Live Arena, I would still recommend banning Armanz in almost every fight. Brewguard is also a solid champion for Hydra, which many players struggle with.
That being said, we have just come out of the Thor fusion, who is a much stronger champion, and early game players might be very low on resources. In that case, you might be better off skipping this fusion to focus on building Thor and stockpiling for stronger fusions in the future.
“it might be worthwhile simply skipping accuracy and forgetting the debuff extension part of it”
Hell no.. i’d rather skip this useless thing than accuracy..
