Genzin – Champion Spotlight
You’ve probably heard YST talk about this champion for years as his favourite Legendary of all time! If you’re looking for a damage dealing debuffer who turbocharges his Turn Meter with every hit to cycle through his turns faster, Genzin is a Shadowkin worth building. Whether it’s speed farming Fire Knight 10, clearing waves in PvE content like Faction Wars and Doom Tower, or simply adding a powerful and enjoyable champion to your roster, let’s take a closer look at where Genzin shines, his best builds, and how to make the most of him in 2025.
GENZIN OVERVIEW
Flowing Cuts [A1] strikes his target three times, with each hit filling his Turn Meter by 6% unconditionally. This makes it a great tool for players tackling the Fire Knight’s Castle, helping to cut down those tedious shield counters. Steel Parting [A2] brings strong AoE potential, landing a 100% chance to place Decrease Defence, while each critical hit boosts Genzin’s Turn Meter by 10%. In the ideal scenario, he can gain up to a 50% Turn Meter increase across waves, allowing him to rotate through his abilities faster while being one of the few champions in his faction capable of applying an AOE Decrease Defence.
Leaping into action with Fated Vengeance [A3], Genzin ignores Unkillable and Shield buffs, with the added chance to decrease his active skill cooldowns by one turn if he kills his target. Ignoring these conditions is incredibly valuable when facing Swift Parry or Unkillable champions such as Skullcrown in Arena, or the Maneater wave in Faction Wars. And in true Genzin fashion, there’s more Turn Meter synergy here too – this skill boosts his Turn Meter by 60% if the target’s HP is below 50%, or 30% if above, giving him even more opportunities to keep the damage rolling.
Furthermore, his passive grants him 10 extra Speed and 50 additional Resistance when his team has the same or fewer champions than the enemy team. This helps him potentially resist debuffs while complementing his turn meter and speed focused kit, allowing him to take more turns throughout the fight. Since this effect is always active against bosses, it gives him an extra edge in encounters like the Fire Knight’s Castle.
FIRE KNIGHT
As shown in the example team above for the hardest stage, Genzin fits perfectly into a Fire Knight composition – quickly clearing waves, reducing the boss’s shield counters, and dealing solid damage once the shield is down. When paired with Ally Attack champions like Grand Oak Padraig or Lady Mikage, and other multi-hitters, the shield can be broken in no time. From there, you can capitalise with Enemy MAX HP damage from champions such as Coldheart or Gnut, and even include a reset champion to cycle key abilities more often for consistent control and damage output. Phantom Touch is an excellent blessing choice here, helping to chip away at the Fire Knight’s shield even faster.
Grand Oak Padraig & Lady Mikage: These two serve as the key Ally Attack enablers, leading the team in quickly breaking down the Fire Knight’s shield counters. Grand Oak passively boosts team damage through his buffs, while Mikage frequently leads Genzin for more attacks thanks to their her Shadowkin synergy. Their Ally Attack abilities are locked via presets until the boss phase to ensure optimal timing.
Genzin: Built with high Speed and strong damage output, Genzin handles wave clearing, chips away at the Fire Knight’s shield with his multi-hits, and then delivers consistent damage once the shield is broken.
Gnut: Acting as both the team’s Freeze control and heavy hitter, Gnut keeps the boss’s Turn Meter in check on Hard Mode while unleashing Blessed Bash for huge Enemy MAX HP damage. His AoE also helps with wave control or provides sustain on the boss if it’s not fully locked down.
Prince Kymar: The team is tuned for Kymar to use his reset at the ideal moment, refreshing key skills to unleash another round of Ally Attacks. This lets Gnut deliver another Enemy MAX HP hit, allows Genzin to reapply Decrease Defence and continue dealing damage, and keeps the team’s control cycle flowing smoothly.
OTHER AREAS
The focus of Genzin’s kit isn’t about landing a single massive hit, but rather the steady flow of damage he delivers through constant Turn Meter boosts and cycling his abilities. With a key AoE Decrease Defence to enhance team damage, strong turn manipulation, and solid damage across all skills, he fits comfortably into a wide range of PvE teams.
Doom Tower: Genzin performs well here, whether it’s helping to clear minions on bosses like the Eternal Dragon or handling waves and Secret Rooms. His mix of damage, debuffs, and Turn Meter boosting gives him great flexibility and consistency throughout the tower.
PvE Waves: The same strengths carry over into other areas of content – from Faction Wars and Cursed City to general dungeon progression. He’s great for debuffing and clearing waves, while also contributing damage against the bosses. Just make sure he’s supported by revivers or healers, as he’s relatively fragile compared to others.
PvP: While he’s not a meta-defining Arena champion, Genzin can still be a fun and effective pick for progression or niche strategies. His Decrease Defence and burst potential make him a strong option for sniping key threats like Leorius or Skullcrown, giving him solid utility in the right setups.
How To Build Genzin

How you build Genzin can depend on the content you’re focusing on and your preferred playstyle. The main priorities are high Speed to complement his Turn Meter boosts, along with gear sets and masteries that enhance his damage output. When it comes to stats, aim for strong Accuracy, Speed, Critical Rate, Critical Damage, and ATK%.
- Savage/Lethal + Perception
This setup complements Genzin perfectly, supporting both his damage output and debuffing role. If you don’t have access to Lethal gear, Savage is a strong alternative for ignoring 25% of enemy Defence. Pair this with Perception to boost Accuracy and Speed, and consider accessory sets like Feral or Pinpoint to further enhance these key stats. - Cruel + Perception
This setup acts as a more budget-friendly version of the one above, with Cruel gear being easily obtainable from Demon Lord Clan Boss chests. Each 2-piece set provides +15% ATK and ignores 5% of enemy Defence, which pairs nicely with Perception for added Accuracy and Speed. It’s a solid option for players who don’t have access to strong Savage or Lethal gear, or simply want a reliable build for areas like Faction Wars without using their top-tier equipment. - Merciless
This build is designed for players looking to get the most out of Genzin, offering a mix of offensive stats and powerful set effects. The bonuses grant extra ATK%, Speed, and Critical Damage, while also providing a 30% chance to reduce a random skill cooldown, 35% Defence ignore, and a 15% chance to gain an Extra Turn at the 9 piece bonus. This setup perfectly complements his turn cycling playstyle, helping him reach his key abilities faster while amplifying both his damage and speed potential.
Relic Recommendations
BEST BLESSINGS:
- Phantom Touch
Grants a chance to inflict bonus damage on one enemy each time this Champion hits enemy targets. The bonus damage scales with the wearer’s Attack, and at higher Awakening levels, it can trigger a second instance of bonus damage. This blessing is highly recommended for the Fire Knight. - Cruelty
Whenever this Champion hits an enemy, their Defence is decreased until the end of the round, with the effect applying once per hit. Since Genzin is a multi-hitter, he can reach the cap quickly, though it’s worth noting that if multiple champions have this blessing, a single target’s Defence cannot be reduced by more than 40% – or 20% against bosses. - Heavencast
Increases the damage this Champion inflicts based on the number of active buffs on them. It’s a strong option for boosting damage in buff-heavy teams and can be particularly effective when using Genzin in PvP setups. - Polymorph
If you’re using Genzin primarily for PvP, or in faction-limited posts for Siege, Polymorph can be a strong choice. It gives a chance to turn enemies into Sheep whenever they place debuffs or attempt to remove or steal buffs from him. As a damage dealing debuffer, Genzin will already have the Accuracy needed to potentially trigger this effect, and at 6-star Awakening, it becomes irresistible.
