April Champions – Nub’s Reviews
Today we’re trying a new type of article: Nub (after testing every champion on the official test server) is giving his thoughts on how they felt to play, to give you a spicy, opinionated review of all the new champions.
Let us know what you think of this new article style and these new champions in the comments!
1. Lysanthir Beastbane
Nub’s Thoughts – “…did we really need THREE new Weaken champions for Hydra within the first four fusions of 2025?!?”
As the Fusion champion for April 2025, Lysanthir has big shoes to fill. With a bunch of Hydra-specific effects in his kit, I wanted to see him do big numbers in Hydra… And he did an acceptable job! I found he performed similarly to Thor, though he requires a lot more stuff to get those numbers out of him (ally attacks, increase defence buff, etc.)
The biggest perk for this champion is his A3 which brings both Weaken and Decrease Speed debuffs–but did we really need THREE new Weaken champions for Hydra within the first four fusions of 2025?!? (Hatter, Esme, and now Lysanthir!?) It’s been a lacking debuff for Hydra, but this is just too many… Mix it up with a Perfect Veil champ or a different content focus please!
2. Kerin the Harvester
Nub’s Thoughts – “I also feel a personal attachment to Kerin since my real name is Kevin… Yer a lizard Harry.”
A champion built around Sleep is instantly going to be better for manual play than auto, but I do think that Kerin has potential. This is definitely a champion who screams to be built in fast, high ACC, Supersonic gear, to cut it after an enemy booster (e.g. Siphi) in arena. Ignoring Block Debuffs is the game-changer here, leaving Stoneskin as his main obstacle. Definitely pushes him more into an anti-speed team niche.
He’s going to get eaten alive by Marius though by triggering his passive constantly–definitely a big problem for 2025 arena. His affinity is a problem as well. Reminds me of a budget Armanz style champion. He’ll be crazy in Siege alongside Teox and Sulfuryion.
I also feel a personal attachment to Kerin since my real name is Kevin… Yer a lizard Harry.
3. Yuzan the Marooned
Nub’s Thoughts – “If I didn’t have about 10 copies of Smashlord I’d be tempted to grab this guy.”
Yuzan is quite a nice fusion epic I think, definitely desinged for Faction Wars. Skinwalkers has some crazy free damage dealers in Wukong and Marius, so support is more likely to be something you’re missing.
If I didn’t have about 10 copies of Smashlord I’d be tempted to grab this guy. Healing and Block Debuffs is a good combo. He’s only an epic but he’s decent.
4. Aratheia Corpseflower
Nub’s Thoughts – “This champion has one unforgiveable problem…”
Aratheia reminds me of Poison Ivy crossed with the Energiser Bunny…
I had very high hopes for this champion: cool visuals; fun passive to play around; loads of turn meter boosting; the potential to make hex relevant in non-Hydra content… But she sucks.
This champion has one unforgiveable problem: she is a damage dealer who does very low damage. She’s the biggest disappointment of this patch.
5. Bladechorister Caldor
Nub’s Thoughts – “For a newer player or lower spender, he might be too much work to be worth it….”
Caldor is absolutely bonkers in many, many ways.
Due to his passives it seems like he’s best off in Merciless gear, but not building any C. RATE or ACC–pump up his SPD, ATK, and C. DMG instead!
A couple of quick things that stood out to me from testing him: firstly, his A3 is an absolutely monster hit (doing almost 6 MILLION damage against a decapitated Hydra head for me); secondly, his A2 will only ever cast on himself on auto (i.e. you cannot use him for an auto poison explosion team).
I’m disappointed by the A2 AI honestly; I’d love a preset toggle in the future to choose which effect you want. Even so, this champion can do some cool stuff on manual if you A2 him first, extend the buffs, then throw out tons of Poisons on his next A2.
Stacking Sylvans and Continuous Heals is a ton of work, but makes this champion very unique and very fun–and from my testing he’s quite powerful. But, for a newer player or lower spender, he might be too much work to be worth it.
Disgusting thumbnail.
