What Attack based champions are

How Attack Scaling Works

Some champions deal damage based on their Attack stat instead of HP or Defence, meaning the more Attack they have, the harder they hit. This makes them some of the strongest damage dealers in the game, capable of dealing massive burst damage and clearing enemies quickly. However, unlike HP or Defence based champions, building more Attack does not improve their survivability, meaning they are often much more vulnerable and rely on support & protection to stay alive while dealing damage.

Why Attack Based Champions Are Strong

Attack based champions often deal the highest burst damage in the game because their skills are designed to scale heavily for offence, allowing them to hit hard when built with high offensive stats like Critical Rate and Critical Damage. This makes them especially effective at quickly eliminating enemies, clearing waves, or defeating opponents before they have a chance to respond, particularly in Arena and fast clearing PvE teams.

Why Attack champions are valuable

Unlocking Ninja's Full Potential

High Damage Output

Attack champions are often the primary damage dealers on a team because they are designed to deal high amounts of direct damage and quickly defeat enemies. They are usually responsible for clearing waves, bursting down bosses, and providing the offensive power needed to finish fights efficiently. While they can be more vulnerable than other champion types, they are typically the main source of damage that drives a team’s overall damage output.

Fast Enemy Clears

They can quickly defeat enemies by dealing high amounts of damage, allowing them to eliminate threats before they become dangerous. When combined with buffs like Increase ATK and debuffs such as Decrease Defence & Weaken, their damage becomes even more powerful, helping them burst down enemies, clear waves faster, and apply pressure in PvP fights.

Best Areas to Use Attack champions

PVE Waves & Bosses

Their high damage output makes them extremely effective against both enemy waves and bosses, allowing teams to clear content much faster and more efficiently. In waves, they can eliminate enemies before dangerous abilities become a problem, while against bosses they provide the burst or sustained damage needed to bring encounters down.

When supported by buffs like Increase ATK and debuffs such as Decrease Defence or Weaken, their damage potential becomes even stronger, helping teams push through difficult content more reliably.

Arena Battles

Their ability to deal massive burst damage makes them the primary nukers in many PvP teams, where quickly eliminating enemies can decide the fight. These champions are often built to hit as hard as possible, allowing them to wipe out key targets or entire teams when combined with setup buffs and debuffs. In fast Arena battles, this offensive pressure is what allows teams to gain control early and prevent opponents from recovering or taking their turns effectively.

Boss Battles

The high damage output allows them to contribute strong damage against bosses, helping teams complete fights faster and push through difficult encounters more efficiently. In Clan Boss fights, they can also provide excellent sustained damage over long battles when properly protected by supports, shields, healing, or defensive buffs. Since many Attack based champions are naturally more fragile, keeping them alive and maintaining their setup is key to allowing them to consistently deal damage.

Best Attack based champions in raid

Here we’ve highlighted some of the top Attack champions in Raid: Shadow Legends, showcasing the different strengths they bring. While this list isn’t exhaustive, it should give you an understanding of what makes these champions so effective. For more options, be sure to check out our Champion Tier List.

Ninja

Ninja is undoubtedly one of the best boss slayers in the game. When targeting a boss, his A3 becomes a single-target attack that ignores 50% DEF, while his HP Burn placements and activations can be fully focused if no additional enemies are present. On top of this, his passive allows him to scale his ATK up to 100% and 25% C.DMG. This combination of scaling damage, HP Burn activations, and synergy with champions like Lady Mikage makes him powerful option for bosses.

Kro’khad

This Orc is a powerhouse damage dealer who also brings AoE Weaken and Leech in his kit, becoming even more effective when paired with Packmaster Shy’ek. He excels at cutting through tough waves and delivering heavy damage to bosses, with his value increasing further when using blessings like Nature’s Wrath and relics such as Irethi Coronet to maximise his damage output.

Thor

Instead of striking all enemies at once, his A2 attacks each target in a random order, helping maximise Hex splash damage while also bypassing passives that reduce the effectiveness of AoE attacks. The skill also scales in damage with each subsequent hit, ramping up to 100% increased damage over the attack sequence.

Combined with a powerful A1 that can repeat attacks, alongside self buffs, debuffs, and additional AoE damage from his A3 and passive, Thor becomes an extremely effective damage dealer across a wide range of encounters. Champions like Kro’khad can also function in a similar way, as their attacks are treated as single-target hits rather than traditional AoE damage.

Whisper

Whisper stands out as one of the most powerful boss slayers in the game. She brings strong multipliers across her entire kit, with the ability to chain extra turns and snowball her damage through cycled attacks. She can also apply Increase ATK and Increase C.Rate to herself, while her A2 allows her to ignore all defence, and the passive further increases damage dealt to bosses by 20%. Having Decrease DEF and Weaken active is essential to unlocking Whisper’s full potential.

Gnishak

The ATK stat directly impacts the effectiveness of Bomb champions, and Gnishak is a strong example of a champion who combines Bomb damage with Poison utility. He’s able to scale his Bomb damage against enemies with more than 200,000 MAX HP, making him especially powerful against bosses like Bommal in Doom Tower.

Once his Bombs detonate, they are converted into Poisons, allowing him to continue dealing strong sustained damage afterwards. This combination also makes him highly effective in PvP, where he can quickly burst down enemy teams.

Rotos

Rotos the Lost Groom is a strong damage dealer because he combines high single target damage with survivability, allowing him to stay dangerous throughout fights. His abilities have ignore defence mechanics, destroy enemy MAX HP, and trigger extra turns, making it difficult for opponents to recover once he starts gaining momentum. Combined with his passive effects that limit incoming damage and make him harder to kill, he becomes powerful in both PvP and PvE content.

Royal Guard

Royal Guard

Although the introduction of 10% or 5% caps on Enemy MAX HP damage has reduced the dominance of champions like Royal Guard compared to modern multi-hit options such as Gnut, he still remains a fantastic progression champion for Dungeons and Doom Tower. He brings a powerful AOE Enemy MAX HP nuke, alongside an A3 that hits four times to reduce Turn Meter and place Decrease SPD, making him especially effective against bosses like Spider, Fire Knight and Dark Fae.

Michelangelo

Michelangelo combines damage output with reliable debuff utility and strong self sustain, allowing him to stay effective throughout fights. He can pressure enemies with consistent damage while also weakening or disrupting them through debuffs & spreads, making him valuable both offensively and supportively. His ability to sustain himself through passive mechanics makes him difficult to take down.

Coldheart

Although the introduction of 10% or 5% caps on Enemy MAX HP damage has reduced the impact of single-hit champions like Coldheart compared to multi-hit options like Gnut, she remains a great choice as you progress through Dungeons and Doom Tower. She brings the ability to fully deplete Turn Meter, deal strong Enemy MAX HP damage, and apply Heal Reduction, making her especially valuable in encounters like the Fire Knight & Dark Fae.

Sun Wukong

Sun Wukong is strong damage because he brings a powerful mix of damage, control, buff stripping, Block Buffs, and self-revival, making him difficult to deal with in both PvP and PvE. His ability to remove buffs before attacking allows him to pressure defensive teams, while his high single target damage can spill over as surplus damage onto other enemies after securing a kill. Combined with his ability to revive himself after being defeated, Sun Wukong remains a constant threat.

How to build Attack based champions

Attack & Speed Requirements

Firstly, you want to ensure you’re building your ATK based damage dealer around the stat they scale from, ATK. Prioritising this key stat will maximise their damage output, alongside reaching 100% Crit Rate (unless their kit guarantees critical hits) and stacking Critical Damage to push that damage even further.

Once these foundations are in place, combining them with the right gear sets, enough Speed to outpace enemies, alongside Relics, Masteries, full skill upgrades, and Blessings, will allow your damage dealers to truly reach their full potential.

Recommended Artifact Sets

The best gear sets for your damage dealers are those that allow you to ignore DEF, such as Savage, Lethal, and Merciless. Merciless stands out as one of the strongest PvE options, offering high Ignore DEF potential alongside powerful offensive stats, cooldown reduction, and even a chance for Extra Turns with the 9-piece bonus. If using Merciless, aiming for at least a 6 piece setup is recommended to gain the core benefits of the set.

For progression or when pairing with utility sets like Stoneskin, Savage, Cruel and Lethal are far more accessible, both only requiring 4 pieces. Savage can be farmed from Fire Knight, while Lethal is crafted using materials from Dark Fae. These sets can also be combined with options like Perception or Feral to help reach important Accuracy and Speed thresholds, especially for hybrid damage dealers who also bring debuffs or utility.

Tips for using Attack champions

Using ATK based damage dealers effectively comes down to maximising their damage while keeping them alive long enough to deal it. Since these champions are often more fragile than DEF or HP based damage dealers, pairing them with support champions who bring Shields, Ally Protection, Strengthen, healing, revives, or Increase DEF can greatly improve their survivability.

To maximise damage output, combine them with debuffs like Decrease DEF, Weaken, or Increase ATK buffs, allowing them to hit much harder against bosses and waves. Effects like Increase SPD, Turn Meter boosts, and cooldown reduction can also help your damage dealers cycle turns faster and use their strongest abilities more often.

Positioning and timing are equally important – ensuring your debuffs and buffs are active before your nuker attacks can massively increase damage potential. When properly supported and built with the right balance of ATK, Crit Rate, Crit Damage, Speed, and utility stats where needed, ATK based damage dealers become some of the strongest champions in the game.
