Nub’s Week 1 Nightmare Chimera Team (12 Trials Completed!)

Hey everyone, Nub here, and in today’s guide I’ll be breaking down the team I used for the very first week of the new Chimera Clan Boss on Nightmare and Ultra-Nightmare difficulties. Using this team I was able to 1-key the chests for both difficulties as well as completing a whopping 12 Trials on NM and a still respectable 9 trials on UNM–a good number for week 1!

In this guide I’ll be explaining why I chose these champions (and some alternatives you could use), how to build them, and how to time your abilities correctly to make the Chimera much more doable.

Nub’s Week 1 Chimera Champions

Elva Autumnborn

  • Why She’s Great:
  • Build Tips:
    • 9-piece Protection set will provide a significant boost to team damage.
    • Must not have the lowest Crit Damage on the team or the Ram Form will kill her.
    • High HP, SPD, and RES are ideal.
    • Consider the Chainbreaker blessing to escape from Stuns and Fears etc. that you cannot block.
  • Alternative Champions:
Lydia the Deathsiren

Lydia the Deathsiren

  • Why She’s Great:
  • Build Tips:
    • 9-piece Feral will give a huge damage boost due to the amount of debuffs she can place on the Chimera.
    • 9-piece Protection is a strong alternative.
  • Alternative Champions:
    • Venus can bring Decrease Defence and Weaken alongside Poison and HP Burn.
    • Ramantu Drakesblood can stack single target debuffs and bring decent damage.
    • Riho Bonespear brings the best single target debuffs in the game and can also be your team’s healer, cleanser and Block Debuff champ.

Nekmo Thaar

  • Why He’s Great:
    • He brings Decrease Speed, Decrease Attack, and Leech. These are essential debuffs to keep your team alive for this boss.
    • Increase Speed and Turn Meter Boosting on his A3 helps cycle turns for your team.
  • Build Tips:
    • Build him fast and accurate.
    • 9-piece Feral is ideal for maximum team damage. Relentess or Reflex are easier options to build.
  • Alternative Champions:
    • Krisk the Ageless
    • Skeletor
    • Sniktrak

Lady Mikage

  • Why She’s Great:
    • Extending buffs on your team and debuffs on the boss makes it much easier to stay consistent.
    • Ally attack deals good damage and helps complete several trials.
    • Increase Attack and Increase Crit Damage buffs boost attack based damage dealers.
    • Increase Accuracy on her second form helps complete one of the Easy Ram Trials.
  • Build Tips:
    • 9-piece Protection set will provide a significant boost to team damage. Relentless, Merciless and Reflex are great alternatives.
    • Build her with lots of speed and enough accuracy. A damage build can add up to some decent damge on Mikage as well against bosses.
  • Alternative Champions:
ninja

Ninja

  • Why He’s Great:
    • Ninja does a lot of damage when paired with Lady Mikage.
    • HP Burn unlocks a couple of Trials.
  • Build Tips:
    • 6- or 9-piece Merciless set will give Ninja the best damage output.
    • He will need significant accuracy to land his Burn on higher difficulties. Consider using Mikage’s aura to help.
  • Alternative Champions:
    • Harima lacks HP Burn but pairs with Mikage to bring equal damage to Ninja, while being easier to keep alive. She’s also better for this rotation’s affinity.
    • Marius is even stronger than Ninja for damage.
    • Acrizia has similar damage potential to Marius, though she is very difficult to keep alive against the Ram Form.

Nub’s Week 1 Chimera Strategy

The goal with this team in week 1 was to do as many Trials as possible while still doing decent damage to the boss while being able to consistently complete keys as well. I was able to do 12 Trials on Nightmare and 9 on Ultra-Nightmare.

The Ram Form was the most difficult one to do Trials on, since there is a known bug with the boss where none of your damage counts towards Trials if your champions die from the reflected damage on their attacks. This means that even though Ninja is perfect for Trials such as “deal damage while under Perfect Veil”, it doesn’t count at the moment.

The Lion Form was very easy: simply use abilities on cooldown.

The Viper Form was extremely tricky. For this Form you must play on manual for the section of the Ultimate Form leading up to it, to ensure the Elva has her cleanse and Lydia her Block Active Skills. Line these up and you’re good to go. On Nightmare I was able to complete the Hard Trial where you need to damage the Form with 9 debuffs and no Block Active Skills by running a Toxic set on Lydia, but it was a very close thing and I did not attempt it on UNM where you need 10 debuffs. (It is also worth noting that a Toxic set on Lydia did not get me close to completing the Trials for Poison damage with Poison Sensitivity).

Great article! Under each character’s pic has a link to Elva’s page instead of their own.
