THOLIN SKILLS EXPLAINED

Tholin Fouldbeard Splash Artwork with Stats

Tholin’s kit is all about pumping out huge amounts of damage! Let’s break it down step by step.

A1 – Demonbreaker

Tholin’s A1 only does moderate damage to each target, but his ability to spam it or trigger an AoE attack through Ally Attack or Counter-attacks makes this very powerful–and it is much stronger than a typical A1 when fighting more than one enemy.

Weaken is also an essential debuff, effectively giving your teams 25% more damage.

The Extra Turn chance is powerful, though it’s hard to build speed tuned teams around it due to it not being 100% consistent. Note that if you run other Weaken champions in the team, this will often prevent him from being able to place the debuff on all enemies (he can’t place it if they already have it, unless he places a higher duration version).

A2 – Back to the Abyss

This is Tholin’s big single-target skill, and it does massive damage—make sure to make this his top priority ability against single bosses.

The 50% defence ignore is particularly powerful against bosses and Corrupted enemies, since a Savage set and the Helmsmasher mastery give you a semi-consistent 100% defence ignore. For other enemies, you’ll want to stack more ignore defence though things like Merciless set and The Cat’s Gaze relic.

The stacking ATK bonus and penalty are a nice perk, and contribute to a significant damage boost and team survivability in Demon Lord and Chimera Clan Bosses.

A3 – Rabid Fury

This is a solid AoE attack by general Raid standards, but not as crazy as his A2. The big perk here is that he self-buffs with Increase ATK, saving you from needing to bring that buff in the team (often, it’s only your one damage dealer who even benefits from the buff anyway).

The utility of ignoring Shields and Unkillable is quite nice too, and will help many players deal with annoying Faction Wars or Arena enemies such as Emic Trunkheart or Maneater.

P1 – Evil’s Nightmare

The survivability boost is pretty minor here, since Tholin is a glass cannon regardless.

A free A1 attack is very juicy though, adding up to plenty of extra damage, taking enemies by surprise in the arena, and helping maintain his Weaken debuff more easily.

Aura – 30% ATK in All Battles

A great ATK aura! You should generally use a SPD aura in arena, but this is very strong everywhere else.

HOW TO BUILD THOLIN

Best Stats

The key stats to look for on Tholin are:

  1. C.RATE%
  2. C.DMG%
  3. ATK%
  4. SPD

Tholin is a typical crit-based damage dealer and follows one of the most standard builds in the game. 100% C.RATE% is essential, then build a balance of C.DMG% and ATK% while hitting your required SPD.

To find the best balance between C.DMG% and ATK%, we recommend using our free Optimiser Tool which does the calculations for you!

Your ideal SPD will depend on how good your general gear is. Damage dealers should be your slowest characters (so you can buff/debuff before they attack; and so you don’t compromise their damage stats), and typical SPDs vary between around 170 for an early-game player to 250 for a late-game player (perhaps 300 for end-game arena, though we wouldn’t particularly recommend him there).

Best Gear Sets

The 5 best sets for Tholin are:

  1. Merciless
  2. Lethal
  3. Savage
  4. Cruel
  5. Zeal

It’s a standard crit-based damage dealer recommendation again: focus on a main set to provide as much Ignore Defence as possible, then supplement with other sets that boost his preferred stats.

If you’re using him in arena, then a 4-piece Stoneskin set (through accessories) should be used with a 4-piece Lethal set. If you can’t do this, then try to use a few Reaction accessories; we want him to have a chance to survive if we don’t go first.

BEST BLESSINGS AND RELICS FOR THOLIN

Tholin’s 1, 3, and 5-star souls are currently up for grabs in the Demonslayer Titan Event, so picking the right Blessing will be essential.

Best Blessings

Check out our Blessings Tier List for full details on all Blessings!

There are several great options for Blessings for Tholin:

  1. Nature’s Wrath: the standard damage blessing for any damage dealer with debuffs; this is particularly strong in longer fights such as Hydra Clan Boss.
  2. Soul Reap: this is the better option for burst damage, though it’s only really worth using at 5 or 6 stars. This can cut through waves, most dungeon bosses, and even arena opponents better than Nature’s Wrath can.
  3. Lightning Cage: this is the best general option for arena—especially with a Stoneskin build, since it gives an extra layer of protection against buff removal.
  4. Crushing Rend: only viable at 6 stars, this gives a huge amount of ignore defence against high level enemies (i.e. bosses and later PvE enemies). Note that exceeding 100% Ignore Defence on his A2 has no additional benefit.

Best Relics

Check out our Relics Tier List for full details on all Relics!

There are a ton of viable options for Relics for Tholin as well:

  1. Stormcaller (Mythical Chimera Relic): this is his best option (for anyone lucky enough to have it) due to his frequent AoE attacks and the sheer number of gem slots.
  2. Covetous’ Passion/Crown of Corruption: both mythical event relics from Chaos Awakes are very strong on him, though note that Covetous’ Passion is not ideal against Clan Bosses.
  3. The Cat’s Gaze (Legendary Event Relic): no longer available, this is a top tier Relic for boosting his Ignore Defence—though note that you could exceed 100% Ignore Defence against bosses on his A2, and lose some value.
  4. Irethi Coronet (Epic Chimera Relic): the budget MVP, this gives a huge amount of damage without needing to be ranked up. Make sure to not run another Weaken champion so that he can stack its effect.
  5. Malefic Talon (Epic Chimera Relic): the most budget option, this is essentially a C.DMG% stat stick.

BEST AREAS FOR THOLIN

As a powerful damage dealer in both single-target and AoE, Tholin is a versatile champion who can fit many areas of the game. He’s a glass cannon however, so make sure to pair him up with teammates who can protect or revive him as needed, such as Rector Drath or Iudex Artor. Thanks to his Weaken debuff, he also combos very well with top tier epic Decrease Defence champions such as Uugo or Deacon Armstrong.

Campaign/Minotaur

Tholin is a great Campaign and Minotaur farmer for newer players thanks to his frequent AoE attacks. These will be your most farmed areas in the game, and he’s a solid upgrade over the starting champions.

Try him on 12-6 rather than 12-3 brutal campaign, however, since there are many Spirit affinity enemies on 12-3.

Clan Bosses

Tholin is very strong against all the Clan Bosses, bringing high damage and self-buffing Increase Attack.

His A2 is very strong in these longer fights, dealing huge damage and ramping up his ATK. Reducing the boss’s ATK is particularly strong against Demon Lord and Chimera, helping your team stay alive.

Wave Content

Tholin is extremely good against any content where there are multiple enemies: including Dungeon waves; Doom Tower waves and Bosses; Faction Wars; Cursed City; and so on.
