In this guide, we break down the ins and outs of upgrading your champions—from the benefits and pitfalls to smart resource management. Whether you’re a seasoned player or just starting out, these insights can help you make informed decisions on when to invest in that extra star.

The Most Important Benefits of 6 Star Souls

As a F2P player, you will likely only be able to afford to upgrade one legendary from 5 to 6 stars every 6 months or so (and that’s by maximising all your free resources). As such, it’s essential to consider exactly what you gain by upgrading a champion to 6 stars and to make sure you invest in the right choices.

Speed

Speed is a unique stat in Raid because it is often boils down to a binary result; the player with the most speed goes first, end of story. In arena, where battles are often decided by which team goes first, a few extra speed points can determine the course of the entire fight. For high end arena, the raw 15 SPD for legendary champions or 20 SPD for mythicals can be enough to determine whether a go-first strategy is even viable in the first place.

Some Blessings Only Work at 6 Stars

Several blessings only work at 6 stars:

  1. Polymorph: at 6 stars this becomes irresistable, meaning it will work on champion such as Wight Queen Ankora who typically do not build any accuracy.
  2. Ward of the Fallen: at 6 stars this gains an extra damage effect and can replenish stacks, making it significantly more effective in long arena fights or viable for solo champions.
  3. Crushing Rend: this blessing only applies to the first 2 attacks of the round at 5 star, but at 6 star it applies to every single attack, changing it from effectively useless against Hydra and Chimera to the best damage blessing for most damage dealers.
  4. Intimidating Prescence: this blessing is viable at all star levels, but in high end Live Arena it is essential to have a top tier version if you intend to go first, making it extremely high priority.

Some Blessings Get Worse at 6 Stars (The Marius Effect)

However, it’s important to note that not every blessing scales perfectly with the upgrade. The Incinerate and Temporal Chains blessings will often perform better at five stars, due to their Turn Meter Reduction effects triggering the passive of Marius the Gallant. This is a huge problem since he is the most common damage dealer in top tier arena… Avoid these blessings at 6 star or make sure to ban the enemy Marius or you’ll be in for a world of pain!

Champion Showdown: Who Benefits the Most?

Not every champion needs a six-star upgrade, and knowing which ones to target is key.

Types of Champion Worth the Investment:

  • OP Champions: some champions are just frankly overpowered, so investing in them is always going to give a huge return: here we’re looking at champions like Trunda and Armanz as classic examples. The only danger is that such champions do have the potential to be nerfed (like what happened to Trunda… Though ironically, she ultimately benefited!)
  • PvP Champions: here I’m including not only all Arena modes (including Siege) but Hydra and Chimera as well (due to Clash). These are the most important areas to invest in, since your opponents are other players who are also investing. Don’t invest in dungeon champions.
  • Speed Champions: Champions who are designed to go first can truly shine with six-star SPD stats. Extra speed means that your Arbiter, for example, can consistently secure the opening move—a critical factor in fast-paced PvP.
  • Void Legendaries: Void legendaries are typically the most powerful champions you will own, and it’s hard to go wrong with the guaranteed ones we get, such as Marius, Arbiter, or Lydia.
  • Faction Unity: the newest type of champion on the block, a strong Faction Unity champion is likely to hold long term value, and be worth investing in. Legate Teox and Fyna, Blade of Aravia, stand out as great examples of champions likely to maintain a high value.

Remember, investing in a six-star upgrade is most impactful when applied to champions who play key roles in competitive settings. For example, champions that work in multiple modes—like Arena and Hydra—should be prioritized over those who see limited use outside of niche scenarios.

Managing Your Eternal Soul Coins: Soul Stones vs. Soul Essence

One of the biggest strategic decisions is choosing between spending your eternal soul coins (the big ones) on soul stones or soul essence. Here’s how to decide:

Eternal Soul Stones:

  • These are entirely random, giving you a much greater quantity of high rank souls at the risk of getting none for the champions you value.
  • The main reason to buy these is to earn quick points in events for top tier guaranteed champions, such as the Freyja Deck of Fate event.
  • Don’t pull these at random, as they are one of the rarest resources in the game.

Eternal Soul Essence:

  • This is a safer option to guaranteeing 6 star souls for your very best champions, but you will get far less souls overall.
  • This is the better option when you have a couple of top tier champions at 5 star waiting for an upgrade.
  • You should generally only buy 6 star souls, since 5 star ones are often given out as rewards for tournaments and events.

Pro Tip: Stockpile your coins and resources until you’re sure about which champions need that extra boost. This way, you maintain flexibility and can adjust your strategy when new events or game modes are released.

Key Takeaways for Your Six-Star Strategy

  • Prioritize Competitive Modes: Focus your investments on champions that shine in Arena, Clan Boss Clashes, and Siege. Extra speed and the right blessings can turn the tide in these battles.
  • Choose Wisely: You won’t be able to give every champion a six-star upgrade. Target those who truly benefit from the extra stats and blessing effects.
  • Balance Your Resources: Decide between soul stones and soul essence based on your current roster and upcoming events. Saving up for a major upgrade with essence is often more impactful than rolling the dice with soul stones, so be patient.
  • Adapt to the Meta: As game updates and power creep evolves, so should your strategy. Keep an eye on which champions are maintaining their value for your account and adjust your investment priorities accordingly.

Final Thoughts

Take these insights as a guideline to refine your own approach to achieve long term success. Remember to be patient: every champion you buy a six-star soul for  should serve a clear purpose on your teams. Happy upgrading, and may your six-star souls lead you to victory!
