The Best Provoke Champions For The Head Of Decay!

The Provoke debuff is crucial for controlling the Head of Decay, to prevent the head from cleansing, boosting the Turn Meters of all Hydra heads, or placing Life Barriers on the one with the lowest HP. Without proper control, your run can quickly fall apart if you can’t instantly reapply Block Buffs, as the Hydra heads will start buffing themselves again – whether it’s Poison Cloud, Mischief stealing and spreading, or Wrath wiping your team with Increased Attack and Reflect Damage. In today’s article, we’ll highlight champions that not only consistently place Provoke but also provide extra utility for your team – whether through debuffs, support, damage, or countering other Hydra mechanics.

GALLEUS BLOODCREST

Galleus Bloodcrest Portrait Picture

Galleus may not be considered one of the top Mythical champions, but he can play a significant role in many teams. His A2 skill is key for Provoke, applying it for a 2-turn duration, ensuring the effect never wears off as long as you don’t get resisted or weak hit. This skill also grants him Unkillable and Counterattack buffs, making him an excellent Mischief tank and enabling him to deliver Enemy Max HP nukes with his A1 when counterattacking. His A3 provides full HP restoration, along with Revive on Death and Increase Defence for team support. For Hydra battles, we recommend keeping him in his base form.

KHORONAR

This champion has great synergy with his partner Minaya, but he’s still powerful on his own. Khoronar’s A2 places Provoke on enemies while also applying Block Debuffs and Increase Defence on himself. This is especially useful for countering Poison Cloud, and the self-buffs make him a strong Mischief tank when built with enough resistance, enabling more counterattacks through his passive. To trigger his counterattacks, you need to ensure Decrease Attack, Decrease Speed, or Decrease Defence are active on Hydra heads – two of which he can apply himself with his A3. His AOE attacks also make him a solid choice for gear sets like Cursed or Provoke.

MAULIE TANKARD

Maulie was the fourth Fusion released in Raid Shadow Legends, and beyond summons, she’s also available in the Token Trader by using Life Tokens from unbinding duplicate champions. This Dwarf is one of the few champions capable of placing a Provoke for up to 2 turns with her A2, though the extra turn duration has only a 50% chance of landing. Since it’s a placement skill, you can apply it regardless of affinity. When she’s hit by a boss, she grants your team a 25% Turn Meter fill through her passive, and her A3 provides a single target revive when an ally is taken out. Overall, she’s a top utility option for Hydra!

KRISK THE AGELESS

Krisk the Ageless

Krisk has long been one of the top Void Legendaries in the game, and that holds true for Hydra battles as well. His A3 is a game-changer, placing a Provoke on enemies, followed by Increase Defence on himself and Increase Speed on allies. His A2 extends ally buffs, provides Ally Protection, Continuous Heals, while his A1 delivers a Decrease Speed debuff. This skill set perfectly balances support and control, offering versatility usually found only by combining multiple champions. Additionally, his passive places Decrease Attack and Defence on enemies who attack him, and his AOE attacks make him an excellent candidate for Provoke or Cursed sets.

GRAAZUR IRONGUT

Graazur Irongut Portrait

Graazur is a strong support unit for Hydra, providing essential effects that protect and sustain your team. His A3 not only places Provoke but also grants Increase Resistance and Increase Defence to your team, reducing the resistance needed to counter the Hydra heads’ effects while enhancing survivability. His A2 extends buff durations, delivers an enemy Max HP nuke, and offers healing, with additional heals from his passive when he’s attacked. With AOE attacks on all his skills, Graazur is an ideal choice for Cursed and Provoke sets.

KANTRA THE CYCLONE

Kantra the Cyclone-Portrait

Kantra, introduced during a 2020 fusion event, has a unique approach to placing debuffs. To trigger her Provoke, ensure the Head of Decay has at least 5 debuffs, as her passive gives a 75% chance to Provoke enemies with that debuff count. Her passive also boosts accuracy, reduces incoming damage, heals her when debuffs expire, and ensures debuffs are applied even on weak hits, making her effective against any affinity. Her A2 randomly applies up to 3 out of 6 possible debuffs with each of its three hits, including Block Buffs, Decrease Speed, and Weaken. While the debuffs are randomized, all except Heal Reduction will benefit your Hydra runs.

SKULL LORD VAR-GALL

Skull Lord Var-Gall-Portrait

Skull Lord was introduced during one of the most unique fusion events in the game, requiring players to farm 16 Skullsworns to fuse him. His kit is simple yet highly effective for Hydra battles. His A2 places a Provoke on a target, ensuring no weak hits, while also applying Strengthen on himself, making him a potential Mischief tank. His A3 provides an AOE Decrease Attack to reduce incoming damage, and his A1 fills his Turn Meter, allowing him to cycle back to his active skills more quickly.

HUSK

Husk-Portrait

This classic Undead Epic may not have a guaranteed Provoke, but having it on a default skill is valuable for reducing reliance on cooldowns. His A1 offers a 40% chance to apply Provoke with each hit, and he can also be an excellent secondary provoker if your primary one gets devoured. Husk also delivers an Enemy Max HP nuke, making him a strong damage dealer, while his A3 can inflict strong hits against decapitated heads. Additionally, being HP based makes him more durable than champions like Royal Guard.

VISIX THE UNBOWED

Visix is available for free on day 270 of the daily login program and has a great kit for Hydra battles. Her A3 is strong, placing Provoke for 1 turn on a 3 turn cooldown and granting herself a Shield for added protection. She can also apply a Decrease Speed debuff on all heads with her A2, helping to slow them down, and provides Ally Protection for team support. However, her A1 is less effective against this boss, as it can’t decrease the Hydra’s Turn Meter, preventing her from filling her own Turn Meter by the amount they would lose.

SIGMUND THE HIGHSHIELD

Sigmund was introduced in 2021 as a Hybrid fusion and is arguably one of the most underrated champions in the game. His combination of Provoke and Decrease Attack is excellent for controlling the Head of Decay and mitigating incoming damage. While the Provoke only has a 75% chance to land when booked, the double hit significantly improves its consistency. His A3 provides valuable team support by applying a Shield and Strengthen buffs to allies, while his A1 has a chance to remove buffs, such as Wrath’s Increase Attack. Additionally, his passive has a chance to decrease the duration of enemy buffs when he’s attacked.

VAULT KEEPER WIXWELL

Vault Keeper Wixwell Portrait

The vault keeper, Wixwell, certainly doesn’t belong in the vault when it comes to Hydra battles. He has found a place in powerful Yannica infinity teams, thanks to his impressive Shield growth. Even in more traditional teams, Wixwell shines with the best default chance to Provoke in the game. Against bosses, he has a 100% chance to place Provoke with each hit once booked, ensuring full control over Decay. His A3 allows him to place Intercept stacks on allies to counter crowd control effects, while also providing Increase Defence and Shield buffs for team protection. Additionally, Wixwell’s A2 can place Decrease Attack, extend the duration of buffs, and enhance the value of shields on allies. His passive makes him a strong Mischief tank, due to placing Counterattack on himself.

HARIMA

harima portrait

When it comes to damage and control, Harima is a top contender for Hydra. While she requires sufficient speed to outpace Decay with her A3 Provoke, she also excels as a secondary provoker if your primary one gets resisted or devoured. In terms of damage, her triple hitting A2 reduces the target’s defence by up to 30% while boosting her own by up to 100%. As her stats scale, her damage and survivability increase significantly. Her A1 has a chance to place Decrease Attack on all enemies if it lands critically, helping to mitigate incoming damage. Once heads are decapitated, Harima’s abilities can deliver some impressive damage numbers!

JIZOH

Jizoh is given to players early in their Raid: Shadow Legends journey, and while his cooldowns could use some improvement, he offers strong abilities for Hydra. His A2 provides a 100% chance to place Provoke for 2 turns once booked, along with a 15% Continuous Heal on himself. Few champions can maintain such a long duration of Provoke, ensuring consistent control over Decay – provided you don’t weak hit or get resisted. When targeted with his A2, Jizoh can serve as a Mischief tank with his Shield and Counterattack, especially when paired with the Continuous Heal from his A3. You can also use his A3 on allies with powerful default skills, like Drexthar to place HP Burn.

SOULLESS

Soulless is an excellent choice for Provoke, with two active abilities that can apply the effect. His A3 not only places Provoke on enemies but also extends the duration of debuffs, reducing the risk of them expiring. Additionally, it places a Shield on himself for protection and increases his damage by 10% for each debuff on the target. While the 4 turn cooldown isn’t ideal, gear sets like Reflex or Merciless could help reduce it. His A2, a triple hit randomized attack, also has a chance to Provoke and remove buffs, though RNG will play a factor in targeting Decay. Overall, Soulless offers a strong combination of control and damage, making him a solid option.

SEEKER

Seeker Portrait

Seeker is well known for his effectiveness against the Demon Lord Clan Boss, but he can also excel in Hydra battles. His default ability has a 50% chance to place Provoke on each hit, offering a slightly better chance than champions like Husk. Beyond control, Seeker is a strong option for Turn Meter boosting, applying Increase Attack to allies and gaining an extra turn to quickly cycle either his A2 or A1 for Provoke. While his kit is straightforward, Seeker proves to be a highly effective champion for this encounter.

WARCHIEF

While this champion is in dire need of a buff, one thing he excels at is Provoking! The advantage of using him is that he doesn’t require booking to be effective; his A2 places a Provoke for 3 turns on a 3-turn cooldown. As long as you don’t weak hit or get resisted, this ensures Decay is always under control, and he can also steal 2 buffs with the same skill. Additionally, his A1 has a chance to Provoke with each hit, and his passive reflects 60% of the damage he receives back to the attacker.

ANGAR

When discussing Angar, Provoke is the first thing that comes to mind… it’s what this Orc specializes in! His A2 ability places Provoke on enemies, followed by Reflect Damage on allies and Counterattack on himself. What makes this skill particularly strong is the 75% chance to place Provoke for 2 turns instead, ensuring prolonged control over Decay. The additional buff on himself also makes him effective as a Mischief tank. Angar’s passive further enhances his control; when attacked by Decay, it grants a chance to reapply Provoke, and places Decrease Attack to them when under the effect if they hit an ally.

SKEURAMIS

skeuramis portrait

Skeuramis is often overlooked for Hydra, but he has a kit worth exploring. His A3 is great for controlling Decay with Provoke, while also placing Counterattack and Continuous Heal buffs on himself, making him effective for Mischief tanking. His A2 reduces the duration of buffs on the Hydra heads, such as Wrath’s Increase Attack, and then applies Decrease Attack to reduce incoming damage to your team. This skill also boosts his Turn Meter based on the number of buff durations reduced. Overall, Skeuramis is a straightforward yet effective Epic for progression in Hydra.

BIVALD OF THE THORN

bivald of the thorn portrait

Blinded by the Hydra’s attacks, this warrior still wields the power to bring them down! His A2 places Provoke on enemies, along with Leech for healing and Strengthen on himself. What’s unique about this skill is that the debuffs can land even on weak hits, making it effective against negative affinities and Decay when they’re under Poison Cloud. His A3 not only attacks but also grants allies a Heal and Shield based on 20% of the damage inflicted, providing protection for your team. If you need additional control, his A1 offers a 50% chance to place Provoke, ensuring you can keep the Hydra in check.

R.NERGIGANTE ARCHER

Nergigante Archer Portrait

This champion was introduced during the limited time collaboration with Monster Hunter and is a powerhouse for Hydra. Her A3 will extend the Hex’s duration to 3 turns and Provoke to 2 turns when targeting a boss, ensuring consistent control over Decay. This synergizes well with her A2, which applies Decrease Speed to slow down the heads, and her passive, which heals allies when she’s attacked by Hexed targets, making her a versatile choice for this encounter. Additionally, the passive can increase her defence by up to 30% when hit by Hexed enemies, and her A1 grants her Increase Accuracy.
