Best Hex Champions in RAID: Shadow Legends

Discover the best Hex champions in RAID: Shadow Legends. Learn how Hex works, why it is essential for Hydra, and which champions can maximize its value.

What Hex Does in Raid

Hex Debuff description

How Hex Works

Hex is a debuff that causes enemies to take a portion of the damage you deal to other enemies: single-target attacks to other enemies duplicate 10% of their damage to each enemy under Hex; multi-target attacks to other enemies duplicate 2% of their damage to each enemy under Hex.

Hex became significantly more valuable following the introduction of Hydra, since the boosted damage you deal to Decapitated Heads can add up to a lot of damage against other Heads with Hex. Against a single enemy, Hex does nothing directly.

Some champions, such as Thea the Tomb Angel, also have abilities which become more powerful against enemies with the Hex debuff.

Hex Now is not the Same as Hex Then

Hex was initially considered a niche debuff. On release, its only function was to interact with champions like Thea the Tomb Angel. Since then, Hex has been buffed with the damage duplication effect, making it much more useful.

Why Hex Champions Are Valuable

Increasing Team Damage

Hex can provide a big boost to your team’s overall damage, partiucularly against multiple enemies.

For example, in a Hydra fight if you Hex all the Heads and hit one for 100,000 single-target damage, it will duplicate 10% of that (i.e. 10,000 damage) to the 3 other heads, for a total damage boost of 30,000 or 30%.

Considering you can easily add Hex to Hydra teams with the Cursed set, this is a highly recommended debuff.

Improving Debuff Efficiency

If Decrease DEF and Weaken are the main damage-boosting debuffs in the game, then Hex fills the role of stacking on top of those nicely.

There are very few ways to stack damage multiplicatively like this (Feral and Protection sets are another classic example) and they are always extremely valuable.

Spider Slaying

Again note that Hex is almost useless against a single-target enemy, and gains value with each additional enemy added.

This means that Hex is amazing against the Spider boss, since there are so many spiderlings present! Each attack you deal to the spiderlings will duplicate damage to the main Hexed Spider Queen, adding up to a substantial amount of extra boss damage.

This can be the difference between killing the Spider before she heals or not.

Here we’ve highlighted 10 of the best Hex champions in RAID: Shadow Legends. While this isn’t a complete list of every strong option available, it showcases some of the most effective champions and helps demonstrate what makes this debuff so valuable across the game.

Thylessia

Thylessia is a fantastic accessible Hex option. She brings AoE Decrease DEF with her A3 and an AoE Debuff Extension on her A2. Her passive gives her a 50% chance of placing Hex on enemies under Decrease DEF. She’s a glass cannon, but she brings a lot of utility for an epic to make up for it.

Akemtum

akemtum portrait

Akemtum is a very unique Hex champion due to his passive, which redirects Poison damage through Hex as well. There is no other champion in the game who can do this, and it’s a unique way to turn your Poison debuffs into powerful wave-clear. It can trigger sets like Stun set too, due to some funky coding!

Stonebound Thisbe

Stonebound Thisbe Portrait

Thisbe is a new epic from the newest Argonites faction and she is a great champion for progressing in Hydra due to combining Hex and Block Buffs on her A2, two crucial debuffs for that fight. She brings some nice survivability with her A3 and A1 too, and her passive provides a very powerful 10% damage boost to your team.

Packmaster Shy’ek

Packmaster Shy'ek Portrait

Shy’ek is one of the most underestimated Hex champions in the game. What makes this so strong is the whopping 20% damage boost he provides against enemies he has placed Hex on, but this is balanced out by him being required to be hit to trigger it. This damage boost is partiuclarly potent when he’s paired with Kro’khad, the combo he is usually known for.

Michinaki

Michinaki is a classic Hex champion, removing buffs and placing Hex with his A3. He has a unique syngery where he can join in ally attacks against Hexed targets, dealing decent damage with his A1 and placing HP Burn.

R. Nergigante Archer

Nergigante Archer Portrait

R. N. Archer was a time-limited champion from the Monster Hunter collab event, and she is an excellent champion who combines Hex and Provoke, making her a great pick for Hydra Clan Boss or wave-based content. We don’t know if she will ever return to the available champion pool.

Mithrala Lifebane

Mithrala Lifebane

Mithrala might be the most well-known Hex champion in the game. She brings tons of buffs for your team as well as her Hex debuff, and her passive lets her place Petrification on enemies under Hex who attack her team. She’s a staple Hexer, and will let you push further in Hydra when you unlock her.

Soulless

Soulless is a very good Hex champion since his buff, dealing strong damage, building big shields, and counterattacking often. He’s a fantastic generalist but he’s even better when paired with Titus in dungeons (to enable his Shields) or against the Hydra.

Mad Hatter

Mad Hatter is an amazing support, bringing Hex alongside Weaken, a very powerful Ally Attack, and turn meter and buff/debuff manipulation. He’s better than he seems on paper, slotting into tons of different teams and turbo-boosting a single powerful damage dealer.

The Calamitus

The Calamitus Picture Profile

The Calamitus was recently buffed and is a very powerful anti-Hydra Hex champion in his Alternate Form. This Form places Hex and Decrease DEF and deals absolutely tons of damage to Hexed enemies. He’s often more used for his Base Form, but don’t sleep on the power of this Alternate Form against Hydra, Spider, or waves.

How to Build Hex Champions

Accuracy Requirements

Hex application requires sufficient Accuracy.

For Hydra, for example, you want to hit minimums of:

  • Normal – 215 ACC
  • Hard – 265 ACC
  • Brutal – 330 ACC
  • Nightmare – 410 ACC

You can check the requirements for any fight using our Raid Stages Tool.

Speed Requirements

Hex champions should take turns frequently to maintain the Hex debuff.

Depending on your champion role, you will aim for different levels of SPD:

  1. Damage dealers can be the slowest champion on your team.
  2. Supports which focus on debuffs should be the fastest.
  3. Supports which keep your team alive should be between these two.

Recommended Artifact Sets

Some common sets for Hex champions are:

  • Perception
  • Speed
  • Relentless
  • Reflex
  • Protection
  • Guardian

It should also be noted that the Cursed Set can turn any champion into a Hex champion.

Best Areas to Use Hex

Hydra Clan Boss

As we’ve already discussed, Hydra is the premiere area for Hex. This is due to having 4 enemies in the fight at all times and the power of duplicating boosted damage to Decapitated Heads through Hex.

Spider Dungeon

Spider is the next best area, since there can be 10 spiderlings alive at one time.

This opens up a ton of burst damage duplicated to the main boss, particularly if dealing large Enemy MAX HP damage attacks to the spiderling.

Doom Tower, Faction Wars, and other Wave-based Content

Any area where there are multiple enemies can benefit from Hex damage, though it will be more of a mild benefit than a massive difference maker without the Decapitated damage boost or having huge amounts of spiderlings.
