Using Fabian to Counter Mythicals

Lord Entertainer Fabian is the newest fusion in Raid: Shadow Legends and he brings strong counterplay to several mythical champions thanks to his ability to lockout on his A3 and to counterattack with Petrification on his A2 when they swap forms while under True Fear!

In this article we take a look at every single mythical and break down how well Fabian will do against them. Read on to learn more!

STRONG COUNTERS

Alaz the Sunbearer

  • Strong in Arena?: Very strong.
  • Relies on Form 1?: Extremely.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: Yes.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: No.
  • High RES?: No.
  • Good Affinity?: Yes, Force

Alaz is extremely reliant on his Form 1 and is Force affinity, making him a perfect target for Fabian. He might even remain in Form 1 rather than try swapping to Form 2.

Mezomel Luperfang

  • Strong in Arena?: Decent.
  • Relies on Form 1?: Extremely.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: Yes.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: No.
  • High RES?: No.
  • Good Affinity?: Yes, Spirit.

Mezomel is usually picked for her ability to Block Revive in Form 1. She can swap to Form 2 to keep doing damage but it’s far less of a threat, and if you get lucky and strip her Stoneskin then Fabian’s A2 can lock her down very well.

Karnage the Anarch

  • Strong in Arena?: Very Strong.
  • Relies on Form 1?: Yes.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: Yes.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: No.
  • High RES?: No.
  • Good Affinity?: Yes, Spirit.

Karnage is usually picked for Form 1 in arena where he can place and spread protected debuffs. His Form 2 hits extremely hard if your team has any debuffs, so be wary!

Theodosia the Disgraced

  • Strong in Arena?: Very Strong.
  • Relies on Form 1?: No.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: Sometimes.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: Sometimes.
  • High RES?: No.
  • Good Affinity?: Yes, Force.

The newest mythical, we’re still not sure how she will be most commonly used. Locking her out stops her from protecting or reviving her team, but she can swap to Form 2 to CC you. Fabian’s A2 could lock her down in Form 2 and prevent her swapping back to revive.

Embrys the Anomaly

  • Strong in Arena?: Likely Very Strong.
  • Relies on Form 1?: Yes.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: Likely Yes.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: Likely Sometimes.
  • High RES?: No.
  • Good Affinity?: Yes, Force.

Soon to be a mythical many players will have, Fabian is very strong against Embrys, preventing him from swapping your buffs in Form 1 which is his biggest immediate threat and locking down his damage threat when he tries to swap to Form 2.

Fjorad Wolfheart

  • Strong in Arena?: Weak.
  • Relies on Form 1?: Yes.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: Sometimes.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: Sometimes.
  • High RES?: No.
  • Good Affinity?: Yes, Spirit.

Fjorad could be hard-countered by Fabian, since he relies on landing his A3 to Freeze enemies and then swapping Forms to kill them. Unfortunately, while Fabian counters him, he is already countered by being undertuned, so it’s not too important.

Lady Mikage

  • Strong in Arena?: Very Strong.
  • Relies on Form 1?: No.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: Sometimes.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: No.
  • High RES?: No.
  • Good Affinity?: Yes, Force.

A very strong and very common arena mythical. She can cleanse her damage dealer of Fabian’s A2 effects with her passive in Form 1, but she herself is very vulnerable. She is often run fast with no Stoneskin and loves to swap to Form 2, so she herself is a prime target for every part of his kit.

Arbais the Stonehorn

  • Strong in Arena?: Extremely.
  • Relies on Form 1?: Yes.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: Sometimes.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: Sometimes.
  • High RES?: No.
  • Good Affinity?: Yes, Force.

A top tier arena mythical, Arbais is often run extremely fast with no Stoneskin, making Fabian a great counter to her if he can outspeed her or cut in against her after she buffs.

SITUATIONAL COUNTERS

Androc the Glorious

  • Strong in Arena?: Mid.
  • Relies on Form 1?: No.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: No.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: No.
  • High RES?: No.
  • Good Affinity?: Yes, Spirit.

Androc is usually built for PvE. In arena, Fabian can prevent him using Form 1, but if he gets into Form 2 he could Enfeeble Fabian which prevents Fabian doing much.

Siegfrund the Nephilim

  • Strong in Arena?: Extremely.
  • Relies on Form 1?: Yes.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: Sometimes.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: No.
  • High RES?: No.
  • Good Affinity?: No, Magic.

Siegfrund is ridiculously strong and Fabian is very questionable against him. On the one hand, locking out and CCing Siegfrund might be your only way to survive against him, but Fabian is bad affinity here and can weak hit. He is often run with Lightning Cage and 4-piece Feral, so a lot will come down to whether Fabian successfully removes the Block Debuffs or if it gets protected. Since Siegfrund’s metamorph is passive, it will not trigger Fabian’s A2 passive.

Galleus Bloodcrest

  • Strong in Arena?: Decent.
  • Relies on Form 1?: No.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: Yes.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: No.
  • High RES?: No.
  • Good Affinity?: Yes, Force.

Galleus is a Form 2 arena champion run in Stoneskin, so Fabian’s strength will depend on whether you remove the Stoneskin buff or not.

Gharol Bloodmaul

  • Strong in Arena?: Strong.
  • Relies on Form 1?: No.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: Yes.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: No.
  • High RES?: No.
  • Good Affinity?: Yes, Spirit.

Gharol is a Form 2 arena champion run in Stoneskin, so Fabian’s strength will depend on whether you get lucky in removing the Stoneskin buff or not.

Ash’nar Dragonsoul

  • Strong in Arena?: Mid.
  • Relies on Form 1?: No.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: Yes.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: No.
  • High RES?: No.
  • Good Affinity?: Yes, Force.

Ash’nar is mostly used as a counter to HP Burn champions, but his second form can deal some decent damage. Fabian can counter his actives and form swapping, but cannot prevent his passive from stopping your burns. We’re expecting this mythical to get buffed very soon though, so things might change.

The Calamitus

  • Strong in Arena?: Mid.
  • Relies on Form 1?: No.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: Sometimes.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: No.
  • High RES?: No.
  • Good Affinity?: Yes, Spirit.

The Calamitus is more often run in 6-piece Merciless for PvE. Fabian would be decent against him in arena, but if he has Stoneskin he could swap forms and nuke your team.

Frolni the Mechanist

  • Strong in Arena?: Decent.
  • Relies on Form 1?: Yes.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: Yes.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: No.
  • High RES?: No.
  • Good Affinity?: No, Magic.

Frolni relies heavily on Form 1 for arena, but he is strong affinity against Fabian.

Toshiro the Bloody

  • Strong in Arena?: Mid.
  • Relies on Form 1?: Yes.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: Sometimes.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: No.
  • High RES?: No.
  • Good Affinity?: No, Magic.

Toshiro is usually built for PvE and is strong affinity against Fabian, but he is rarely in Stoneskin and prefers his Form 1.

POOR COUNTERS

Starsage Galathir

  • Strong in Arena?: Extremely.
  • Relies on Form 1?: No.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: Yes.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: Yes.
  • High RES?: Yes.
  • Good Affinity?: Yes, Force

Galathir is regularly built with very high RES due to his passive which means that it might be very hard to land Fabian’s abilities. Alternatively, Galathir can be built to be very fast, and might swap to Form 2 and CC Fabian before he can do anything. Fabian might be decent to counter Galathir’s teammates, but you shouldn’t rely on him taking a Galathir out of the fight.

Gizmak the Terrible

  • Strong in Arena?: Extremely.
  • Relies on Form 1?: No.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: Yes.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: Yes.
  • High RES?: No.
  • Good Affinity?: No, Magic.

Gizmak is likely to cause big trouble for Galathir as well. Locking him out is of minimal value, since most of his power in Form 1 is from his passive. Gizmak is often geared in Pinpoint, which will make it difficult to prevent him swapping to Form 2, not to mention his magic affinity.

Hierophant Lazarius

  • Strong in Arena?: Extremely.
  • Relies on Form 1?: Yes.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: Sometimes.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: No.
  • High RES?: No.
  • Good Affinity?: No, Magic.

Lazarius is most often run as either a go-first champion or as a Stoneskin nuker. Fabian can struggle against both: either he can be outsped and killed before he takes a turn, or Lazarius can swap and kill him. You can’t rely on Fabian to outspeed a Lazarius without a speed booster, or to succesfully CC him past Stoneskin or his Magic affinity.

Komidus Darksmile

  • Strong in Arena?: Extremely.
  • Relies on Form 1?: No.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: Yes.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: Yes.
  • High RES?: No.
  • Good Affinity?: No, Magic.

Komidus is the worst of all worlds for Fabian, being most often geared in both Pinpoint and Stoneskin while also being Magic affinity and a Form 2 champion. 9 times out of 10, you’re going to be bombed.

Aphidus the Hivelord

  • Strong in Arena?: Mid.
  • Relies on Form 1?: No.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: Yes.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: No.
  • High RES?: No.
  • Good Affinity?: No, Magic.

Aphidus is not commonly used in arena, and could theoretically be built either for Form 1 damage or for Form 2 CC. He’d likely be in Stoneskin either way and is Magic affinity, so Fabian would be a risk against him.

Night Queen Krixia

  • Strong in Arena?: Extremely
  • Relies on Form 1?: No.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: Sometimes.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: Sometimes.
  • High RES?: Yes.
  • Good Affinity?: Yes, Spirit.

Krixia is one of the worst possible matchups for Fabian, since she likely has high RES and her Form 2 hard-counters him with a full team cleanse and cooldown reduction.

Nais the Shadowthief

  • Strong in Arena?: Extremely.
  • Relies on Form 1?: No.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: Yes.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: No.
  • High RES?: No.
  • Good Affinity?: No, Magic.

Nais is a risky matchup for Fabian. The A2 True Fear might save you when he swaps to Form 2, but if Affinity goes wrong you’ll be in trouble.

Nell Blackteeth

  • Strong in Arena?: Decent.
  • Relies on Form 1?: No.
  • Often in Stoneskin?: Sometimes.
  • Often in Pinpoint?: Sometimes.
  • High RES?: No.
  • Good Affinity?: No, Magic.

Nell is not very common in arena, but typically relies on her Form 1 passive to place Poisons, then swaps to Form 2 to deal big damage. She’s magic affinity and often in SS or PP so Fabian will struggle.
